Metering gun for dispensing precisely measured charges of fluid
A cyclically operable fluid dispenser for use in dispensing precisely measured charges of potable water aboard spacecraft is described. The dispenser is characterized by (1) a sealed housing adapted to be held within a crewman's palm and coupled with a pressurized source of potable water; (2) a dispensing jet projected from the housing and configured to be received within a crewman's lips; (3) an expansible measuring chamber for measuring charges of drinking water received from the source; (4) and a dispenser actuator including a lever extended from the housing to be digitated for initiating operational cycles, whereby precisely measured charges of potable water selectively are delivered for drinking purposes in a weightless environment
Cohen-Macaulay graphs and face vectors of flag complexes
We introduce a construction on a flag complex that, by means of modifying the
associated graph, generates a new flag complex whose -factor is the face
vector of the original complex. This construction yields a vertex-decomposable,
hence Cohen-Macaulay, complex. From this we get a (non-numerical)
characterisation of the face vectors of flag complexes and deduce also that the
face vector of a flag complex is the -vector of some vertex-decomposable
flag complex. We conjecture that the converse of the latter is true and prove
this, by means of an explicit construction, for -vectors of Cohen-Macaulay
flag complexes arising from bipartite graphs. We also give several new
characterisations of bipartite graphs with Cohen-Macaulay or Buchsbaum
independence complexes.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figures; major updat
A linear circuit analysis program with stiff systems capability
Several existing network analysis programs have been modified and combined to employ a variable topological approach to circuit translation. Efficient numerical integration techniques are used for transient analysis
Challenges in Managing the New Diverse Labor Force
Among the purposes of this chapter is (1) to examine past and present statuses of demographic groups who earlier suffered discrimination in employment but who today are legally protected. Our purpose is then (2) to appraise the issue of perceptions of fairness and equality, and next (3) to discuss problems still existing in the labor market in achieving “equality” under the law. Finally (4) we will offer some proposals for meeting still existing shortcomings. Because space requirements prohibit a discussion of all these groups, we are focusing on two of the largest: women and African-Americans
