    MATNet: Multi-Level Fusion and Self-Attention Transformer-Based Model for Multivariate Multi-Step Day-Ahead PV Generation Forecasting

    The integration of renewable energy sources (RES) into modern power systems has become increasingly important due to climate change and macroeconomic and geopolitical instability. Among the RES, photovoltaic (PV) energy is rapidly emerging as one of the world's most promising. However, its widespread adoption poses challenges related to its inherently uncertain nature that can lead to imbalances in the electrical system. Therefore, accurate forecasting of PV production can help resolve these uncertainties and facilitate the integration of PV into modern power systems. Currently, PV forecasting methods can be divided into two main categories: physics-based and data-based strategies, with AI-based models providing state-of-the-art performance in PV power forecasting. However, while these AI-based models can capture complex patterns and relationships in the data, they ignore the underlying physical prior knowledge of the phenomenon. Therefore, we propose MATNet, a novel self-attention transformer-based architecture for multivariate multi-step day-ahead PV power generation forecasting. It consists of a hybrid approach that combines the AI paradigm with the prior physical knowledge of PV power generation of physics-based methods. The model is fed with historical PV data and historical and forecast weather data through a multi-level joint fusion approach. The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated using the Ausgrid benchmark dataset with different regression performance metrics. The results show that our proposed architecture significantly outperforms the current state-of-the-art methods with an RMSE equal to 0.0460. These findings demonstrate the potential of MATNet in improving forecasting accuracy and suggest that it could be a promising solution to facilitate the integration of PV energy into the power grid

    Development of geopolymer composites reinforced with fiber felts using an industrial approach

    Geopolymers are synthetic inorganic alumino-silicate materials generally formed by reaction of an aluminosilicate with an alkali (Na,K) silicate solution. The reaction occurs at room temperature, so geopolymer can be considered as a type of bi-component inorganic resin. Considering their inorganic structure, geopolymer composites have better thermal properties than organic resins, which typically decompose by oxidation starting from ~400°C. In collaboration with Trucker Subforniture s.r.l., geopolymer based composites reinforced with different kinds of felt, have been developed as alternative to GFRP, for applications where a high thermal resistance is required. Glass and basalt fibers were considered as reinforcement; using felts based on recycled fibers it is possible to keep the cost lower than that of virgin fibers for basalt fibers. Geopolymer composites were developed using an industrial technology. In order to have a good infiltration of the felts, the composition of a potassium based geopolymer resin was optimized in terms of water and alkalinity to tune the rheology and the reactivity in function of the temperature.     New architectural design of delivery room reduces morbidity in preterm neonates: a prospective cohort study

    Background: A multidisciplinary committee composed of a panel of experts, including a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Institute of Architects, has suggested that the delivery room (DR) and the neonatal intensive care units (NICU) room should be directly interconnected. We aimed to investigate the impact of the architectural design of the DR and the NICU on neonatal outcome. Methods: Two cohorts of preterm neonates born at < 32weeks of gestational age, consecutively observed during 2years, were compared prospectively before (Cohort 1: "conventional DR") and after architectural renovation of the DR realized in accordance with specific standards (Cohort 2: "new concept of DR"). In Cohort 1, neonates were initially cared for a conventional resuscitation area, situated in the DR, and then transferred to the NICU, located on a separate floor of the same hospital. In Cohort 2 neonates were assisted at birth directly in the NICU room, which was directly connected to the DR via a pass-through door. The primary outcome of the study was morbidity, defined by the proportion of neonates with at least one complication of prematurity (i.e., late-onset sepsis, patent ductus arteriosus, intraventricular hemorrhage, periventricular leukomalacia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, retinopathy of prematurity and necrotizing enterocolitis). Secondary outcomes were mortality and duration of hospitalization. Statistical analysis was performed using standard methods by SPSS software. Results: We enrolled 106 neonates (56 in Cohort 1 and 50 in Cohort 2). The main clinical and demographic characteristics of the 2cohorts were similar. Moderate hypothermia (body temperature ≤ 35.9° C) was more frequent in Cohort 1 (57%) compared with Cohort 2 (24%, p = 0.001). Morbidity was increased in Cohort 1 (73%) compared with Cohort 2 (44%, p = 0.002). No statistically significant differences in mortality and median duration of hospitalization were observed between the 2 cohorts of the study. Conclusions: If realized according to the proposed architectural standards, renovation of DR and NICU may represent an opportunity to reduce morbidity in preterm neonates

    Prevalence and Determinants of Bad Sleep Perception among Italian Children and Adolescents

    Although sleep problems at young ages are well investigated, the prevalence of bad sleepers and the determinants of sleep quality perception remain unexplored in these populations. For this purpose, we addressed these issues in a sample of children (n = 307), preadolescents (n = 717), and adolescents (n = 406) who completed the School Sleep Habits Survey, addressing sleep quality perception, sleep habits, sleep features, daytime behavior and sleep disturbances, circadian preference, and dreaming. The sample was split in "good sleepers" and "bad sleepers", based on the answer to the question item assessing overall subjective sleep quality. Being a bad sleeper was reported by 11.7% of the sample, with significant between-groups differences (children: 8.3%; preadolescents: 11.3%; adolescents: 15.3%; p = 0.01). At all ages, relative to good sleepers, bad sleepers showed higher eveningness, sleepiness, and depression, longer sleep latency, more frequent insufficient sleep, nocturnal awakenings, sleep-wake behavioral problems, and unpleasant dreams (all p's ≤ 0.01). Sleep quality perception was predicted: in children, by depressed mood, eveningness, and unpleasant dreams (all p's ≤ 0.01); in preadolescents, by sleep latency, awakening frequency, depressed mood, sufficiency of sleep, and unpleasant dreams (all p's &lt; 0.01); in adolescents, by awakening frequency, depressed mood, and sufficiency of sleep (all p's &lt; 0.001). In children, bad subjective sleep quality appears to be mainly determined by daytime psychological features, for example, depressed mood, whereas at later ages, sleep characteristics, such as frequent awakenings, add to the former determinants. This could depend on (a) the appearance, with increasing age, of objective sleep modifications and (b) a greater attention paid by adolescents to their sleep characteristics

    Effect of high level of bladder filling on spinal nociception and motoneuronal excitability

    To verify whether high level of bladder distension may counteract the inhibitory effect of descending pathways on sacral spinal cord neurons and to investigate which spinal circuitries are possibly involved in such a viscero-somatic interaction. Nociceptive withdrawal reflex (NWR), cutaneous silent period (CSP), and H-reflex were recorded in both lower and upper limbs of twenty-eight healthy subjects. Subjects were examined during baseline (empty bladder, no voiding desire), high level of bladder filling (urgency desire), and control (empty bladder, no voiding desire) sessions. Results showed that the NWR and its related pain perception were reduced in the upper limbs, while only a pain perception reduction in males was observed in the lower limbs. The H-reflex was inhibited in both limbs. No effects were found on the CSP duration. The decrease in both the NWR and its related pain perception in the upper limbs confirms the presence of a bladder distension-induced descending inhibitory modulation on nociception at spinal level. The lack of a similar inhibitory effect in the lower limbs suggests that excitatory nociceptive inputs from bladder afferents counterbalance the inhibitory effect on sacral spinal cord. The lack of the descending inhibitory effect may be a mechanism aimed at forcing the micturition phase to avoid bladder damage caused by bladder sovradistension

    Optimal Management of a Smart Port with Shore-Connection and Hydrogen Supplying by Stochastic Model Predictive Control

    The paper proposes an optimal management strategy for a Smart Port equipped with renewable generation and composed by an electrified quay, operating Cold-Ironing, and a Hydrogen-based quay, supplying Zero-Emission Ships. One Battery Energy Storage System and one Hydrogen Energy Storage System are used to manage renewable energy sources and to supply electric and hydrogen-fueled ships. A model predictive control based algorithm is designed to define the best economic strategy to be followed during operations. The control algorithm takes into account the uncertainties of renewable energy generation using stochastic optimization. The performance of the approach is tested on a potential future Smart Port equipped with wind and photovoltaic generation

    Mappatura della letteratura sulle soluzioni digitali e tecnologiche nell'assistenza infermieristica: un protocollo di scoping review

    &nbsp; &nbsp;INTRODUCTION: Digital and technological solutions (DTS) might have an impact on people’s personal and professional lives. These types of solutions, according to studies, have the potential to revolutionize and improve the quality and long-term sustainability of healthcare activities, with nurses playing a significant role. Although DTS appears to be intimately linked to the future of nursing, technology must be utilized as an active rather than passive tool. Nonetheless, understanding DTS appears to be difficult, and a scoping study can provide a thorough overview of such a complicated topic. As a result, the scoping study on this topic will map all of the important aspects of DTS and synthesize studies on the nursing workforce, as well as analyze and clarify knowledge gaps and aid future research and development. This article presents the study protocol.&nbsp; METHODS: The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) scoping review methodology will be used for the proposed scoping review. It will include both quantitative and qualitative scientific research as well as grey literature on DTS in nursing. Only English-language works will be considered for inclusion. Two independent reviewers will take part in an iterative process of evaluating literature, choosing papers, and extracting data. Disagreements among reviewers will be resolved through debate until a consensus is reached or through consultation with the study team if necessary. Results will be presented using descriptive statistics, diagrammatic or tabular displayed information, and narrative summaries, as specified in the JBI guidelines.&nbsp; DISCUSSION: This scoping review protocol explained why it is important to describe the literature on embracing DTS in the nursing field, how to approach the research process, and what the study's key implications will be. The protocol itself may be helpful to increase transparency in the research process, attract interested researchers to work with the group that developed the protocol and offer a practical methodological benchmark for researchers interested in performing scoping reviews by serving as an example of a scoping review protocol.&nbsp; KEYWORDS: Digital solutions; Technological solutions; Nursing; Scoping review; Study protocol; Framework&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;INTRODUZIONE: Le soluzioni digitali e tecnologiche potrebbero avere un impatto sulla vita personale e professionale della popolazione. Questi tipi di soluzioni, secondo gli studi, hanno il potenziale per rivoluzionare e migliorare la qualità e la sostenibilità a lungo termine delle attività di salute, deve gli infermieri svolgono un ruolo significativo di innovatori, facilitatori e gestori dei processi. Sebbene le soluzioni digitali e tecnologiche sembrino essere intimamente legate al futuro dell’assistenza infermieristica, la tecnologia deve essere utilizzata come strumento attivo, piuttosto che passivo. Tuttavia, la comprensione del fenomeno sembra essere difficile e una scoping review può fornire una panoramica completa di un argomento di tale complessità. Di conseguenza, la presente scoping review mapperà tutti gli aspetti salienti legati alle soluzioni digitali e tecnologiche e sintetizzerà gli studi sul coinvolgimento della professione infermieristica, nonché analizzerà e chiarirà le lacune di conoscenza presenti e aiuterà la ricerca e i progetti futuri. Questo articolo presenta il protocollo di studio di scoping review per raggiungere l’obiettivo di mappatura della letteratura.&nbsp; METODI: Il protocollo utilizza la metodologia di scoping review del Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Comprenderà sia la ricerca scientifica quantitativa che qualitativa, nonché la letteratura grigia sulle soluzioni digitali e tecnologiche nell’assistenza infermieristica. Solo i lavori in lingua inglese saranno presi in considerazione per l’inclusione. Due revisori indipendenti prenderanno parte a un processo iterativo di valutazione della letteratura, scelta dei documenti ed estrazione dei dati. I disaccordi tra i revisori saranno risolti attraverso il dibattito fino al raggiungimento di un consenso o attraverso la consultazione con il gruppo di studio, ove necessario. I risultati saranno presentati utilizzando statistiche descrittive, le informazioni presentate in forma grafica, tabulare o a mezzo narrativo, come specificato nelle linee guida JBI.&nbsp; DISCUSSIONE: Questo protocollo di scoping review intende definire perché è importante descrivere la letteratura sull’adozione delle soluzioni digitali e tecnologiche in ambito infermieristico, come affrontare il processo di ricerca sottostante alla revisione e quali saranno le implicazioni chiave dello studio.
