Dark Matter in Draco: new considerations of the expected gamma flux in IACTs

A new revision of the gamma flux that we expect to detect in Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs) from SUSY dark matter annihilation in the Draco dSph is presented using the dark matter density profiles compatible with the latest observations. This revision takes also into account the important effect of the Point Spread Function (PSF) of the Cherenkov telescope. We show that this effect is crucial in the way we will observe and interpret a possible signal profile in the telescope. Given these new considerations, some light can be shed on the recent signal excess reported by the CACTUS experiment.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, to appear in the Proceedings of the workshop "The dark side of the Universe", Madrid, June 20-24, 200

Enhanced magnetocaloric response in Cr/Mo containing Nanoperm-type amorphous alloys

The magnetocaloric effect of Fe76Cr8−xMoxCu1B15 (x =0,4) alloys is studied. Although the combined addition of Cr and Mo is more efficient in tuning the Curie temperature of the alloy, the Mo-free alloy presents a higher magnetocaloric response. The refrigerant capacity (RC) for the Mo-containing alloy is comparable to that of Gd5Ge1.9Si2Fe0.1 (for a field of 50 kOe, RC = 273 J kg−1 for the Mo alloy vs 240 J kg−1 for the Gd-based one), with a larger temperature span of the optimal refrigeration cycle (250 K vs 90 K, respectively). The restriction of the temperature span to 90 K gives RC = 187 J kg−1 for the Mo alloy. A master curve behavior for the magnetic entropy change is also evidenced

Application of the Prony Method for Compensation of Errors in Distance Relays

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose an application of the Prony method as a filtering technique for distance relays. First, an overview of the Prony method is presented, then the distance relay model and the impact of non-filtered frequency components such as interharmonics and subharmonics by application of typical digital filters in the operation of the distance relay is shown. We apply a solution using Prony method as a filtering technique applied to distance relay algorithms. Finally, an analysis of the proposed algorithm using simulated signals is evaluated to validate the proposed distance relay algorithm in reach error and operation time of the relay, a distorted characteristic of the Mho distance relay is shown in the impedance plane

Magnetic permeability of ( Fe Co Ge ) 88 Zr 6 B 5 Cu 1 alloys: Thermal stability in a wide temperature range.

Temperature dependence, from room temperature up to 1000 K, of the initial permeability of Fe83−xCoxGe5Zr6B5Cu1 x=5 and 20 alloys at different stages of devitrification is reported. As nanocrystallization progresses, room temperature decreases but high temperature one increases, leading to an improvement of its thermal stability extended from room temperature up to 915 K, characterized by a temperature coefficient of permeability 0.1%/K 4000 and 0.04%/K 800 for 5 and 20 at. % Co containing alloys, respectively

Missing Data and the Statistical Modeling of Adolescent Pregnancy

    Get PDF
Missing data is a pervasive problem in social science research. Many techniques have been developed to handle the problem. Different ways of handling missing data were shown to lead to different results in statistical models. A demonstration was given based on statistical modeling of the likelihood of a woman reporting having had an adolescent pregnancy by handling missing data with several different approaches. Results indicate that many of the independent variables in the model vary in whether they are, or are not, statistically significant in predicting the log odds of a woman having a teen pregnancy, and in the ranking of the magnitude of their relative effects on the outcome
