Open Charm Production at HERA
Measurements of charmed particle cross sections at HERA in the
photoproduction and deep inelastic regimes are reviewed. The status of the
comparison with perturbative QCD calculations is discussed.Comment: Presented at the Ringberg Workshop on ``New Trends in HERA Physics

Twisted mass QCD and lattice approaches to the rule
Twisted mass lattice QCD (tmQCD), generalised to four Wilson quark flavours,
can be used for the computation of some weak matrix elements related to transitions. Besides eliminating unphysical zero modes, tmQCD may
alleviate long-standing renormalisation problems of the four-quark operators
which contribute to CP-conserving transitions. With an active charm
quark, the renormalisation of the matrix elements requires at most
the subtraction of a linearly divergent counterterm. Furthermore, in the
(partially) quenched approximation the twist angles can be chosen so that only
a finite counterterm needs to be subtracted.Comment: 35 pages;final version with references adde
Determination of the longitudinal structure function at HERA
Recent results from the HERA experiment H1 on the longitudinal stucture
function of the proton are presented. They include proton structure
function analyses with particular emphasis on those kinematic regions which are
sensitive to . All results can be consistently described within the
framework of perturbative QCD.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures (requires iopart, iopams and epsfig); Talk

IceCube Science
We discuss the status of the kilometer-scale neutrino detector IceCube and
its low energy upgrade Deep Core and review its scientific potential for
particle physics. We subsequently appraise IceCube's potential for revealing
the enigmatic sources of cosmic rays. After all, this aspiration set the scale
of the instrument. While only a smoking gun is missing for the case that the
Galactic component of the cosmic ray spectrum originates in supernova remnants,
the origin of the extragalactic component remains as inscrutable as ever. We
speculate on the role of the nearby active galaxies Centaurus A and M87.Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures; Talk at Discrete 08, Valencia, Spai
Cosmological CPT Violation and CMB Polarization Measurements
In this paper we study the possibility of testing Charge-Parity-Time Reversal
(CPT) symmetry with cosmic microwave background (CMB) experiments. We consider
two kinds of Chern-Simons (CS) term, electromagnetic CS term and gravitational
CS term, and study their effects on the CMB polarization power spectra in
detail. By combining current CMB polarization measurements, the seven-year
WMAP, BOOMERanG 2003 and BICEP observations, we obtain a tight constraint on
the rotation angle deg (), indicating a
detection of the CPT violation. Here, we particularly take the
systematic errors of CMB measurements into account. After adding the QUaD
polarization data, the constraint becomes deg at 95%
confidence level. When comparing with the effect of electromagnetic CS term,
the gravitational CS term could only generate TB and EB power spectra with much
smaller amplitude. Therefore, the induced parameter can not be
constrained from the current polarization data. Furthermore, we study the
capabilities of future CMB measurements, Planck and CMBPol, on the constraints
of and . We find that the constraint of
can be significantly improved by a factor of 15. Therefore, if this rotation
angle effect can not be taken into account properly, the constraints of
cosmological parameters will be biased obviously. For the gravitational CS
term, the future Planck data still can not constrain very well, if
the primordial tensor perturbations are small, . We need the more
accurate CMBPol experiment to give better constraint on .Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures, 4 tables, Accepted for publication in JCA
ATLAS silicon module assembly and qualification tests at IFIC Valencia
ATLAS experiment, designed to probe the interactions of particles emerging
out of proton proton collisions at energies of up to 14 TeV, will assume
operation at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in 2007. This paper
discusses the assembly and the quality control tests of forward detector
modules for the ATLAS silicon microstrip detector assembled at the Instituto de
Fisica Corpuscular (IFIC) in Valencia. The construction and testing procedures
are outlined and the laboratory equipment is briefly described. Emphasis is
given on the module quality achieved in terms of mechanical and electrical
stability.Comment: 23 pages, 38 EPS figures, uses JINST LaTeX clas
Analysis of kaon spectra at SIS energies - what remains from the KN potential
We study the reaction Au+Au at 1.48 AGeV and analyze the influence of the KN
optical potential on cm spectra and azimuthal distributions at mid-rapidity. We
find a significant change of the yields but only slight changes in the shapes
of the distributions when turning off the optical potential. However, the
spectra show contributions from different reaction times, where early kaons
contribute stronger to higher momenta and late kaons to lower momenta.
Azimuthal distributions of the kaons at mid-rapidity show a strong centrality
dependence. Their shape is influenced by the KN optical potential as well as by
re-scattering.Comment: SQM 2003 proceedings, 4 figures, 6 page
Centrality and dE_{T}/d\etadN_{ch}/d\eta$ in Heavy Ion Collisions at Mid-Rapidity
The PHENIX experiment at RHIC has measured transverse energy and charged
particle multiplicity at mid-rapidity in Au + Au collisions at
= 19.6, 130, 62.4 and 200 GeV as a function of centrality. The presented
results are compared to measurements from other RHIC experiments, and
experiments at lower energies. The dependence of
and per pair of participants is consistent with logarithmic
scaling for the most central events. The centrality dependence of
and is similar at all measured incident
energies. At RHIC energies the ratio of transverse energy per charged particle
was found independent of centrality and growing slowly with . A
survey of comparisons between the data and available theoretical models is also
presented.Comment: Proccedings of the Workshop: Focus on Multiplcity at Bari, Italy,

CGC, QCD Saturation and RHIC data (Kharzeev-Levin-McLerran-Nardi point of view)
This is the talk given at the Workshop:"Focus on Multiplicitioes", Bari,
Italy, 17-19 June,2004.. In this talk, we are going to discuss ion-ion and
deuteron - nucleus RHIC data and show that they support, if not more, the idea
of the new QCD phase: colour glass condensate with saturated parton density. .Comment: 26 pages with 33 figure
New Particles from Belle
I report recent results on hidden charm spectroscopy from Belle. These
include: observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the omega-J/psi
invariant mass distribution for exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays; evidence
for the decay X(3872)-->pi+pi-pi0 J/psi, where the pi+pi-pi0 invariant mass
distribution has a strong peak between 750 MeV and the kinematic limit of 775
MeV, suggesting that the process is dominated by the sub-threshold decay
X-->omega J/psi; and the observation of a peak near 3940 MeV in the J/psi
recoil mass spectrum for the inclusive continuum process e+e- --> J/psi X. The
results are based on a study of a 287 fb-1 sample of e+e- annihilation data
collected at center- of-mass energies around the Upsilon(4S) in the Belle
detector at the KEKB collider.Comment: 10 pages 12 figures. Invited talk at the 1st meeting of the APS
