Magnetocaloric effect and temperature coefficient of resistance of La 0.85 Ag 0.15 MnO 3 epitaxial thin films obtained by polymer-assisted deposition
We report the magnetocaloric effects and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) of La0.85Ag0.15MnO3 epitaxial thin films grown on single-crystal substrates of LaAlO3 (001) and SrTiO3 (001) using the chemical solution approach of polymer-assisted deposition (PAD). The film thicknesses are in the range 30-35 nm. Magnetocaloric effects, with entropy changes of -2.14 J/kg.K, in the case of the LaAlO3 substrate and -2.72 J/kg.K for the SrTiO3 substrate, (corresponding to a magnetic field variation of 2T) were obtained at room temperature. The refrigeration capacity at this field variation reached large values of 125 J/kg and 216 J/kg, indicating that these films prepared by PAD have the potential for microcooling applications. The temperature coefficient of resistance has been calculated from the resistivity measurements. A maximum TCR value of 3.01 % K-1 was obtained at 309 K, which shows that these films also have potential as uncooled thermometers for bolometric applications

Antiferromagnetic exchange weakening in the TbRhIn 5 intermetallic system with Y-substitution
We report measurements of the temperature dependent specific heat and magnetic susceptibility in single crystals of the series of intermetallic compounds Tb 1âx Y x RhIn 5 (nominal concentrations x = 0.0, 0.15, 0.3, 0.4,0.5, 0.7). A mean field approximation to simulate the macroscopic properties along the series has been used.Neutron diffraction data in powdered samples of Tb 0.6 Y 0.4 RhIn 5 and Tb 0.6 La 0.4 RhIn 5 reveal antiferromagnetic(AFM) propagation vector k = ⥠2 0 2 †with the magnetic moments oriented along the tetragonal c axis or canted from this axis, respectively for Y and La-substitutions. Considering both the simulations of the magnetic exchange and neutron diffraction data, we discuss the role of combined effects of crystalline electric field (CEF) perturbations and dilution in the evolution of magnetic properties with Y and La contents. In particular, we found negligible variations of the Bnm parameters along the Y series. The decrease of T N with x is fully dominated by magnetic dilution effects.Fil: Amaral, R.P..
