The need to create this document, internship report, follows from the context of the curriculum of Teacher Training. The internship is realized during the second year of the master´s degree in Teaching of Physical Education in the lower secondary and secondary school, University of Coimbra, during the academic year 2013/2014. The internship marks the beginning of a teaching career of Physical Education and it also marks the end of my studies which began eighteen years ago. This is the last moment of preparation before the beginning of the performance as a teacher. The main goal of the presentation and preparing of the internship report is reflexive analyses of every relevant activities done during the internship. The context of where the internship was held served always as the basis from where the reflexive analyses would start, exposing the biggest difficulties and the strategies that I used to overcome them. The learnings acquired during the whole process of internship were described in detail in this document, as well as all of the situations that contributed to my professional and personal evolution. Besides all of the reflection made from the process it also covered other dimension, descriptive one of the internship process, so that is possible to perform a brief but adequate contextualization of whole my action. In the end of this document, there are exposed the analyses of the study in Asthmatic Bronchitis which has as the major objective to realize its implications for the teaching context

Engaging Adolescents with Art: Exploring Experiences Between Two- and Three- Dimensional Media Among Teen Boys with Mental Health Needs

    Get PDF
This paper explores how adolescents engage with two- and three-dimensional art materials during the creative process, in addition to the role of the therapist, the artmaking and other contributing factors that influence their experience. Using a humanistic, client-centered approach, these factors were explored with a focus on client strengths, positive regard, and client-led discussion. The literature provided insight around how people react to materials and how diverse materials can provide diverse art experiences, as well as how artmaking is used with vulnerable populations. The literature informed the research in how it analyzed, interpreted, and discussed the art and artmaking process. It highlighted the significance of therapist presence in and out of therapy sessions, and how that has a complex effect on client experience. The teenagers lived at a residential treatment center in a suburban Massachusetts town, servicing youths with various mental health needs, diagnoses, and trauma history. Clients worked with art materials and engaged in dialogue during and following artmaking. Joint artmaking with the therapist and client was involved, as well as reflective artmaking after sessions. Insight was gained on the importance of nonverbal processes, the therapeutic presence, and how to dialogue about artmaking. Each aspect of the process can influence how clients respond to and benefit from the experience. It is important that therapists take care in considering these factors and the impact they have when engaging clients in expressive therapies

It is the purpose of this study (1) to portray in visual, graphic form the negative consequences resulting from inhumanitarian acts man inflicts upon himself and others; (2) to delineate these actions in a revealing, subtle manner that is still representative of the facts of reality; (3) to experiment with a diverse range of intaglio printmaking techniques and compositional arrangements which best produce the visual, emotional effects desired

    SYNTHESIZERS DEMONSTRATED ON BETINE

This paper provides basic information on developing speech synthesis to help preserve and revitalize critically endangered languages. It uses Betine, (ISO 639-3:eot), as a model. The death of minority languages is escalating globally, and 90% are predicted to die by 2100, which results in the loss of cultural heritage and knowledge. Synthesizing speech in dying and near-extinct languages can preserve and even revitalize them. The paper includes spectrographs and waveforms of the given Beti name transcribed phonetically as [aːɟo]. It also contains voice component measurements and the synthesizing programs used for comparison. The measurements taken from the data include F0/pitch, formants (F1, F2, F3, F4, F5), amplitudes (A1, A2, A3, A4), and A5, intensity, duration, and bandwidths (B1, B2, B3, B4, and B5). The paper notes that chunking longer phonemes into multiple short samples can give better synthesized results. Klatt, KlattGrid, and WORLD synthesizers are used for synthesizing the Betine speech segment. The paper proposes that vocoder synthesizers such as WORLD may be worth greater research concerning their capabilities in artificial speech synthesis

A new parenting-based group intervention for young anxious children: results of a randomized controlled trial

    Get PDF
Objective Despite recent advances, there are still no interventions that have been developed for the specific treatment of young children who have anxiety disorders. This study examined the impact of a new, cognitive–behaviorally based parenting intervention on anxiety symptoms. Method Families of 74 anxious children (aged 9 years or less) took part in a randomized controlled trial, which compared the new 10-session, group-format intervention with a wait-list control condition. Outcome measures included blinded diagnostic interview and self-reports from parents and children. Results Intention-to-treat analyses indicated that children whose parent(s) received the intervention were significantly less anxious at the end of the study than those in the control condition. Specifically, 57% of those receiving the new intervention were free of their primary disorder, compared with 15% in the control condition. Moreover, 32% of treated children were free of any anxiety diagnosis at the end of the treatment period, compared with 6% of those in the control group. Treatment gains were maintained at 12-month follow-up. Conclusions This new parenting-based intervention may represent an advance in the treatment of this previously neglected group.
