History of otolaryngology over the centuries
Historia otolaryngologii sięga swoimi korzeniami czasów starożytnych, kiedy człowiek po raz pierwszy próbował walczyć z chorobami. Przez wieki wiedza medyczna była przekazywana ustnie z pokolenia na pokolenie, przechodząc przez stadia rozwoju od magii i szamaństwa do nauki z jej ogromną wiedzą o ludzkim ciele, jego chorobach, sposobie ich rozpoznawania i leczenia. Podział medycyny na wewnętrzną (leczenie za pomocą leków i działań higienicznych) oraz zewnętrzną (leczenie narządów zewnętrznych) datuje się na czasy przedhistoryczne. For centuries, medical knowledge was passed down orally from generation to generation, passing its development from magic and shamanism to learning from its wide knowledge of the human body, its diseases, the understanding how to recognize and treat. Division of Medicine to the internal (treatment with drugs and hygienic measures) and external (treatment of external genital) dates back to prehistoric times. One area that has developed from the internal medicine is otorhinolaryngology

The article aims at presenting the context of the future edition of Vieira’s selected works. The author of the article attempts to outline the historical and cultural horizons of Lusitania and Poland in Vieira’s times and discusses the Polish ‘issues’ in Viera’s writing. The comparative analysis of the two countries is based on national myths (especially the ones of the messianistic character). In order to explain the role of Poland in Vieira’s writing, the concept of Antemurale Christianitatis has been recalled
