Effects of Clinoptilolite on Copper Accumulation of Oreochromis niloticus

    No full text
The copper accumulation in liver and gill tissues of Oreochromis niloticus, exposed to 2 ppm Cu and 1g/L clinoptilolite singly and to the same concentrations of their mixture over 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours was studied. ICP-AES spectrophotometer techniques were applied in determining tissue copper levels. Statistical evaluation of the experimental data was carried out by Student Newman Keul’s procedure. No mortality was observed during the experiments. Copper accumulation was lower in metal-clinoptilolite mixture group than metal singly group in gill tissue while no accumulation in both experimental groups in liver tissue (P<0.05). In addition, the copper level in the liver was lower in all experimental groups than in the control (P<0.05). Low Cu accumulation in gill tissue exposed in mixture groups can be explained by copper adsorption with chelating agent. The decrease of Cu reserves in the liver can be expressed by increase of copper-containing enzyme and protein synthesis

In this study, changes in Sera aspartate, aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and glucose levels after exposing 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 ppm Cd over periods of 1, 3,15 and 30 days to Cyprinus carpio (L. 1758) were investigated. Autoanalyser spectrophotometric methods were used in determining sera parameters. On short term exposure, sera aminotransferase and glucose levels in Cd exposed animals are varied compared with control, but the levels returned to normal on prolonged exposure. A 50% decrease was observed in sera glucose levels in day 30 compared with the levels in day 1 in all concentrations of cadmium tested

Effects of copper on hepatosomatic index, gonadosomatic index and condition factor of Oreochromis niloticus-(L. 1758)

WOS: 000252003400007The effects of copper on gonadosomatic and hepatosomatic indices and on condition factor of Oreochromis niloticus were studied by exposing the animals to 0.1 mg/L Cu for 30 days. The mentioned indices and condition factor were calculated using standard formulas. No mortality was observed during the experiments. Copper increased the hepatosomatic index, but decreased both the gonadosomatic index and the condition factor. Variations in the measured parameters under the effect of copper were probably due to alteration of reproduction and growth, as a result of changes of the metabolic activities

METAL ACCUMULATION IN VARIOUS TISSUES OF Clarias gariepinus EXPOSED TO COPPER, ZINC, CADMIUM AND LEAD SINGLY AND IN MIXTURE

WOS: 000367699500005Accumulation of copper, zinc, cadmium and lead in gill, liver, spleen, kidney and muscle tissues of Clarias gariepinus was studied after exposing the fish to 5 ppm Cu, 5 ppm Zn, 1 ppm Cd, 1 ppm Pb and to the same concentrations of their mixture over 1, 7 and 15 days. Atomic absorption techniques were applied in determining tissue metal levels. Highest Cu and Zn accumulation was observed in liver and kidney tissues at all exposure periods whereas highest Cd and Pb accumulation was in gill and liver tissues. The lowest metal accumulation was observed in muscle tissue. Accumulation of these metals in the tissues studied increased compared to control when exposed singly. Tissue accumulation of metals, however, decreased when exposed to metals in mixture compared with single exposures to metals. It was concluded that exposure to these metals in mixture had an antagonistic effect on metal accumulation
