    Coronavirus and Globalization: Knowledge vs Concept

    The coronavirus pandemic has generated a lot of talk about the post-coronavirus future of the world community and has drawn close attention to the globalization process. The article notes that something similar in the public consciousness took place after the publication of the first report to the Club of Rome, when the awareness of the danger posed by global problems had quickly come. Now, one of the global problems — the coronavirus pandemic — has changed the usual life rhythm of the entire world community in a matter of weeks. The relevance of the topic is so high that even those who, before that, not only professionally, but even seriously were not interested in either the problems of medicine or global problems, actively joined its discussion. As a result, on the pages of many print and electronic publications, along with serious and verified information, all sorts of guesses and speculations about the nature and correlation of coronavirus and globalization are multiplied. Only knowledge can be opposed to this, according to the authors

    Electronic transitions of iron in almandine-composition glass to 91 GPa

    Valence and spin states of Fe were investigated in a glass of almandine (Fe3_3Al2_2Si3_3O12_{12}) composition to 91 GPa by X-ray emission spectroscopy and energy- and time-domain synchrotron Mössbauer spectroscopy in the diamond-anvil cell. Changes in optical properties, total spin moment and Mössbauer parameters all occur predominantly between 1 bar and ~30 GPa. Over this pressure range, the glass changes from translucent brown to opaque and black. The total spin moment of the glass derived from X-ray emission spectroscopy decreases by ~20%. The complementary Mössbauer spectroscopy approaches reveal consistent changes in sites corresponding to 80–90% Fe2+^{2+} and 10–20% Fe3+^{3+}. The high-spin Fe2+^{2+} doublet exhibits a continuous decrease in isomer shift and increase in line width and asymmetry. A high-spin Fe3+^{3+} doublet with quadrupole splitting of ~1.2 mm/s is replaced by a doublet with quadrupole splitting of ~1.9 mm/s, a value higher than all previous measurements of high-spin Fe3+^{3+} and consistent with low-spin Fe3+^{3+}. These observations suggest that Fe3+^{3+} in the glass undergoes a continual transition from a high-spin to a low-spin state between 1 bar and ~30 GPa. Almandine glass is not expected to undergo any abrupt transitions in electronic state at deep mantle pressures.National Science FoundationThis is the author accepted manuscript.     EPIDEMIOLOGY OF AGE-RELATED ANDROGEN DEFICIENCY IN PATIENTS WITH BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA

    Every fourth patient at the age of 50 years, every third patient at the age of 60 years, every second man at the age of 70 years and almost everyone (90%) older than 80 years have Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Lower urinary tract symptoms developing against the background of BPH are often connected both with manifestations of the hyperplasia of a prostate, and with the age androgenic deficiency (AAD). Aim: To determine the frequency of emergence of age androgenic deficiency of patients with Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Materials and Methods: 180 patients with clinical signs of Benign prostatic hyperplasia have been examined. All patients were conducted with standard clinical examination: survey, measurement of International prostate symptom score (IPSS), assessment of quality of life (QOL). The research of the androgenic status of patients included clinical assessment of deficiency of androgens with the use of the standard international questionnaire: “The questionnaire of Aging Males’ Symptoms” (AMS) and hormonal blood test with determination of level of the general testosterone, follicle-stimulating and luteinizing hormones. Results: There were 118 patients with the low level of the general testosterone (Tgen) (67,7%) of all people. An average level of Tgen was 8,74 ± 0,9 nmol/l. In group of patients with low testosterone the GPA (grade point average) on a scale of AMS was 47,3 ± 9,1. Patients with BPH and AAD frequently have the accompanying pathology which is generally presented in such diseases as arterial hypertension, a metabolic syndrome, coronary heart disease, diabetes of the II type, anurolithic disease. Conclusions: Monitoring of the Tgen level is necessary for patients with BPH. Considering the high risk of a combination of BPH with the deficiency of testosterone it is necessary to include in the standard scheme of inspection the hormonal blood test with determination of the Tgen level

    M\"ossbauer, nuclear inelastic scattering and density functional studies on the second metastable state of Na2[Fe(CN)5NO]â‹…\cdot2H2O

    The structure of the light-induced metastable state SII of Na2[Fe(CN)5NO]â‹…\cdot2H2O 14 was investigated by transmission M\"ossbauer spectroscopy (TMS) in the temperature range 15 between 85 and 135 K, nuclear inelastic scattering (NIS) at 98 K using synchrotron 16 radiation and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The DFT and TMS results 17 strongly support the view that the NO group in SII takes a side-on molecular orientation 18 and, further, is dynamically displaced from one eclipsed, via a staggered, to a second 19 eclipsed orientation. The population conditions for generating SII are optimal for 20 measurements by TMS, yet they are modest for accumulating NIS spectra. Optimization 21 of population conditions for NIS measurements is discussed and new NIS experiments on 22 SII are proposed
