A mini review on Natural Fiber Honeycomb (NFH) sandwiched structure composite: flexural perfomance perspective

    Get PDF
Natural Fiber Honeycomb (NFH) sandwiched structure composite is a type of composite that uses natural fiber as the reinforcement material and honeycomb structure in the form of a sandwich panel. The demand for commercial use of natural fiber-based composites is increasing in the past few years in many industrial sectors. The increase in popularity of natural fibers is because of their particular properties, price, health benefits, and recyclability. This paper aims to analyze the data and analysis of the past research about NFH sandwiched structure composite in terms of the materials used to make the NFH, the physical and mechanical properties, and their applications. Based on the literature review conducted, there were many types of materials used to make the NFH sandwiched structure composite. Some experimental tests were planned and conducted to analyze the mechanical properties of the NFH and its potential to be used in the desired industries. However, there are not many implementations of NFH composite in the construction industry. This is due to the concern related to the issue of the structural integrity of the NFH composite. From the literature review conducted, most of the research shows a positive analysis of the mechanical properties and the potential of the developed NFH to be used for the targeted industry in the study. Therefore, it can be observed that the material used in this study has a high potential to be used in the construction industr

Milkfish Freshness Classification Using Convolutional Neural Networks Based on Resnet50 Architecture

    Get PDF
Milkfish (Chanos chanos) had become the main commodity in three major cities in Indonesia, contributed at least 77 thousand tons of aquaculture production in 2021. The quality of fish is determined based on the level of freshness carried out in the sorting process, the sorting process is generally done by evaluating physical characteristics of the fish. However, this method is still considered less efficient and economical because the ability to classify the freshness level of fish can vary for each individual. In this study, by utilizing deep learning, a classification method for milkfish freshness level classification with ResNet50 architecture is proposed, the proposed method is purposed to overcome the previously stated problems, thus creating an efficient and economical system. By creating an efficient system, milkfish sorting process can be carried out quicker and more accurately. Using personal dataset divided into four different classes, the proposed method produces excellent resul

Form Factors and Two-Photon Exchange in High-Energy Elastic Electron-Proton Scattering

    Get PDF
We present new precision measurements of the elastic electron-proton scattering cross section for momentum transfer (Q2) up to 15.75  (GeV/c)2. Combined with existing data, these provide an improved extraction of the proton magnetic form factor at high Q2 and double the range over which a longitudinal or transverse separation of the cross section can be performed. The difference between our results and polarization data agrees with that observed at lower Q2 and attributed to hard two-photon exchange (TPE) effects, extending to 8 (GeV/c)2 the range of Q2 for which a discrepancy is established at \u3e95% confidence. We use the discrepancy to quantify the size of TPE contributions needed to explain the cross section at high Q2

Radiative capture and electromagnetic dissociation involving loosely bound nuclei: the 8^8B example

    Get PDF
Electromagnetic processes in loosely bound nuclei are investigated using an analytical model. In particular, electromagnetic dissociation of 8^8B is studied and the results of our analytical model are compared to numerical calculations based on a three-body picture of the 8^8B bound state. The calculation of energy spectra is shown to be strongly model dependent. This is demonstrated by investigating the sensitivity to the rms intercluster distance, the few-body behavior, and the effects of final state interaction. In contrast, the fraction of the energy spectrum which can be attributed to E1 transitions is found to be almost model independent at small relative energies. This finding is of great importance for astrophysical applications as it provides us with a new tool to extract the E1 component from measured energy spectra. An additional, and independent, method is also proposed as it is demonstrated how two sets of experimental data, obtained with different beam energy and/or minimum impact parameter, can be used to extract the E1 component.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Abstract Background One theoretical explanation for the relatively poor performance of Brassica rapa (weed) Ă— Brassica napus (crop) transgenic hybrids suggests that hybridization imparts a negative genetic load. Consequently, in hybrids genetic load could overshadow any benefits of fitness enhancing transgenes and become the limiting factor in transgenic hybrid persistence. Two types of genetic load were analyzed in this study: random/linkage-derived genetic load, and directly incorporated genetic load using a transgenic mitigation (TM) strategy. In order to measure the effects of random genetic load, hybrid productivity (seed yield and biomass) was correlated with crop- and weed-specific AFLP genomic markers. This portion of the study was designed to answer whether or not weed Ă— transgenic crop hybrids possessing more crop genes were less competitive than hybrids containing fewer crop genes. The effects of directly incorporated genetic load (TM) were analyzed through transgene persistence data. TM strategies are proposed to decrease transgene persistence if gene flow and subsequent transgene introgression to a wild host were to occur. Results In the absence of interspecific competition, transgenic weed Ă— crop hybrids benefited from having more crop-specific alleles. There was a positive correlation between performance and number of B. napus crop-specific AFLP markers [seed yield vs. marker number (r = 0.54, P = 0.0003) and vegetative dry biomass vs. marker number (r = 0.44, P = 0.005)]. However under interspecific competition with wheat or more weed-like conditions (i.e. representing a situation where hybrid plants emerge as volunteer weeds in subsequent cropping systems), there was a positive correlation between the number of B. rapa weed-specific AFLP markers and seed yield (r = 0.70, P = 0.0001), although no such correlation was detected for vegetative biomass. When genetic load was directly incorporated into the hybrid genome, by inserting a fitness-mitigating dwarfing gene that that is beneficial for crops but deleterious for weeds (a transgene mitigation measure), there was a dramatic decrease in the number of transgenic hybrid progeny persisting in the population. Conclusion The effects of genetic load of crop and in some situations, weed alleles might be beneficial under certain environmental conditions. However, when genetic load was directly incorporated into transgenic events, e.g., using a TM construct, the number of transgenic hybrids and persistence in weedy genomic backgrounds was significantly decreased

Serum-Free Cryopreservation of Five Mammalian Cell Lines in Either a Pelleted or Suspended State

Herein we have explored two practical aspects of cryopreserving cultured mammalian cells during routine laboratory maintenance. First, we have examined the possibility of using a serum-free, hence more affordable, cryopreservative. Using five mammalian lines (Crandell Feline Kidney, MCF7, A72, WI 38 and NB324K), we found that the serum-free alternative preserves nearly as efficiently as the serum-containing preservatives. Second, we compared cryostorage of those cells in suspended versus a pellet form using both aforementioned cryopreservatives. Under our conditions, cells were in general recovered equally well in a suspended versus a pellet form
