QCD corrections to decay-lepton polar and azimuthal angular distributions in e+e- -> t tbar in the soft-gluon approximation

    Get PDF
QCD corrections to order alpha_s in the soft-gluon approximation to angular distributions of decay charged leptons in the process e+e- -> t tbar followed by semileptonic decay of t or tbar, are obtained in the e+e- centre-of-mass frame. As compared to distributions in the top rest frame, these have the advantage that they would allow direct comparison with experiment without the need to reconstruct the top rest frame. The results also do not depend on the choice of a spin quantization axis for t or tbar. Analytic expression for the triple distribution in the polar angle of t and polar and azimuthal angles of the lepton is obtained. Analytic expression is also derived for the distribution in the charged-lepton polar angle. Numerical values are discussed for total c.m. energies of 400 GeV, 800 GeV and 1500 GeV.Comment: 21 pages, Latex, 6 figures included in the submission. Two-Fermion Production in Electron-Positron Collisions

This report summarizes the results of the two-fermion working group of the LEP2-MC workshop, held at CERN from 1999 to 2000. Recent developments in the theoretical calculations of the two fermion production process in the electron-positron collision at LEP2 center of the mass energies are reported. The Bhabha process and the production of muon, tau, neutrino and quark pairs is covered. On the basis of comparison of various calculations, theoretical uncertainties are estimated and compared with those needed for the final LEP2 data analysis. The subjects for the further studies are identified.Comment: 2-fermion working group report of the LEP2 Monte Carlo Workshop 1999/2000, 113 pages, 24 figures, 35 table

Two-hadron semi-inclusive production including subleading twist

We extend the analysis of two-hadron fragmentation functions to the subleading twist, discussing also the issue of color gauge invariance. Our results can be used anywhere two unpolarized hadrons are semi-inclusively produced in the same fragmentation region, also at moderate values of the hard scale Q. Here, we consider the example of polarized deep-inelastic production of two hadrons and we give a complete list of cross sections and spin asymmetries up to subleading twist. Among the results, we highlight the possibility of extracting the transversity distribution with longitudinally polarized targets and also the twist-3 distribution e(x), which is related to the pion-nucleon sigma term and to the strangeness content of the nucleon.Comment: 16 pages, RevTeX4, 5 figures, revised notation of several formulae, added text in Secs. A five-year perspective on the situation of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome and status of the hantavirus reservoirs in Europe, 2005-2010

    Get PDF
Hantavirus infections are reported from many countries in Europe and with highly variable annual case numbers. In 2010, more than 2,000 human cases were reported in Germany, and numbers above the baseline have also been registered in other European countries. Depending on the virus type human infections are characterised by mild to severe forms of haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. The member laboratories of the European Network for diagnostics of Imported Viral Diseases present here an overview of the progression of human cases in the period from 2005 to 2010. Further we provide an update on the available diagnostic methods and endemic regions in their countries, with an emphasis on occurring virus types and reservoirs
