    Contrary to positive corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities by luxury fashion brands in western countries, little attention has been paid by the same companies to Korean society (FSS, 2012). South Korea is poised to be the next luxury power house in Asia, even overtaking Japan (Luxe Brand Advisors, 2012). Are Korean consumers not as sensitive as western consumers about CSR by luxury fashion brands?     Plasma virtual-roughness elements for cross-flow instability control

    Recent experiments and numerical simulations demonstrated that discrete roughness elements can be used to control cross-flow instability over a swept wing. Here, the application of this passive technique requires a row of thin cylindrical elements of a few microns high immediately downstream of the leading edge to excite the subcritical modes of cross-flow instability. By properly choosing the spanwise spacing of these roughness elements, one can suppress the growth of most unstable modes, thereby delay transition. However, this passive technique of controlling cross-flow instability is very sensitive to the size (diameter and height), shape and location of discrete roughness. To mimic the discrete roughness elements and to be able to adjust the roughness parameters dynamically, virtual roughness elements based on dielectric-barrier-discharge plasma actuators have been developed and tested. In this paper, we show the plasma-induced flow field of several different prototype virtual-roughness elements for cross-flow instability control, by describing the mechanisms of vortex generation from the virtual roughness elements through an interaction with the incoming laminar boundary layer

    Effects of Resilience, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder on the Quality of Life in Patients with Breast Cancer

    PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify relationships of resilience, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD), and quality of life of breast cancer patients. The findings from this study would provide baseline data needed for nursing intervention. METHODS: A sample of 129 breast cancer patients was recruited from three hospitals in J and C cities in Korea. The survey was conducted with participants by utilizing self-reported questionnaires. RESULTS: Quality of life showed statistically significant differences on religion (t=2.11, p=.033) and hobby (t=2.79, p=.006). Resilience and PTSD had a negative correlation (r=-.22, p=.010). Resilience and quality of life of the participants had a positive correlation (r=.58, p<.001), whereas PTSD and quality of life had a negative correlation (r=-.45, p<.001). Significant predictors of quality of life were resilience and PTSD. These variables explained 44.9% of the variance in quality of life. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate that as resilience of breast cancer patients rose higher and PTSD got lower, their quality of life increased. Based on these results, nursing interventions directed towards improving resilience and relieving PTSD is proposed

    Abstract Four 3 kW grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) generation systems have been installed and monitored at the Field Demonstration Test Center in Korea since October 2002. To observe the overall effect of meteorological conditions on their operation characteristics by field test, the monitoring system has been constructed for measuring and analyzing the performance of PV systems and components in November 2002. In this paper, the performance of PV systems is evaluated and analyzed not only for component perspective but also for global perspective by reviewing one year of monitoring results and loss factors of PV systems. On the basis of these monitoring results, the performance of PV systems is compared to the measured performance of PV systems with the estimated performance by simulation. These results will indicate that it is highly imperative to develop evaluation, analysis and application technology for PV systems.
