Solid tumors of the pancreas can put on a mask through cystic change
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Solid pancreatic tumors such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT), and pancreatic endocrine tumor (PET) may occasionally manifest as cystic lesions. In this study, we have put together our accumulated experience with cystic manifestations of various solid tumors of the pancreas.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>From 2000 to 2006, 376 patients with pancreatic solid tumor resections were reviewed. Ten (2.66%) of these tumors appeared on radiological imaging studies as cystic lesions. We performed a retrospective review of medical records and pathologic findings of these 10 cases.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Of the ten cases in which solid tumors of the pancreas manifested as cystic lesions, six were PDAC with cystic degeneration, two were SPT undergone complete cystic change, one was cystic PET, and one was a cystic schwannoma. The mean tumor size of the cystic portion in PDAC was 7.3 cm, and three patients were diagnosed as 'pseudocyst' with or without cancer. Two SPT were found incidentally in young women and were diagnosed as other cystic neoplasms. One cystic endocrine tumor was preoperatively suspected as intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm or mucinous cystic neoplasm.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Cystic changes of pancreas solid tumors are extremely rare. However, the possibility of cystic manifestation of pancreas solid tumors should be kept in mind.</p

PCT-CycleGAN: Paired Complementary Temporal Cycle-Consistent Adversarial Networks for Radar-Based Precipitation Nowcasting
The precipitation nowcasting methods have been elaborated over the centuries
because rain has a crucial impact on human life. Not only quantitative
precipitation forecast (QPF) models and convolutional long short-term memory
(ConvLSTM), but also various sophisticated methods such as the latest MetNet-2
are emerging. In this paper, we propose a paired complementary temporal
cycle-consistent adversarial networks (PCT-CycleGAN) for radar-based
precipitation nowcasting, inspired by cycle-consistent adversarial networks
(CycleGAN), which shows strong performance in image-to-image translation.
PCT-CycleGAN generates temporal causality using two generator networks with
forward and backward temporal dynamics in paired complementary cycles. Each
generator network learns a huge number of one-to-one mappings about
time-dependent radar-based precipitation data to approximate a mapping function
representing the temporal dynamics in each direction. To create robust temporal
causality between paired complementary cycles, novel connection loss is
proposed. And torrential loss to cover exceptional heavy rain events is also
proposed. The generator network learning forward temporal dynamics in
PCT-CycleGAN generates radar-based precipitation data 10 minutes from the
current time. Also, it provides a reliable prediction of up to 2 hours with
iterative forecasting. The superiority of PCT-CycleGAN is demonstrated through
qualitative and quantitative comparisons with several previous methods.Comment: CIKM 202

Unusual spin pseudogap behavior in the spin web lattice Cu3TeO6 probed by 125Te nuclear magnetic resonance
We present a 125Te nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study in the three-dimensional spin web lattice Cu3TeO6 which harbors topological magnons. The 125Te NMR spectra and the Knight-shift K as a function of temperature show a drastic change at TSâŒ40K much lower than the NĂ©el ordering temperature TNâŒ61K, providing evidence for the first-order structural phase transition within the magnetically ordered state. Most remarkably, the temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate Tâ11 unravels spin-gap-like magnetic excitations, which sharply sets in at TââŒ75K, the temperature well above TN. The spin-gap behavior may be understood by weakly dispersive optical magnon branches of high-energy spin excitations originating from the unique corner-sharing Cu hexagon spin-1/2 network with low coordination number
Simultaneous fabrication of line defects-embedded periodic lattice by topographically assisted holographic lithography
We have demonstrated simultaneous fabrication of designed defects within a periodic structure. For rapid fabrication of periodic structures incorporating nanoscale line-defects at large area, topographically assisted holographic lithography (TAHL) technique, combining the strength of hologram lithography and phase-shift interference, was proposed. Hot-embossing method generated the photoresist patterns with vertical side walls which enabled phase-shift mask effect at the edge of patterns. Embossing temperature and relief height were crucial parameters for the successful TAHL process. Periodic holes with a diameter of 600 nm at a 1 ÎŒm-pitch incorporating 250 nm wide line-defects were obtained simultaneously
