Perfect synchronization in networks of phase-frustrated oscillators

Synchronizing phase frustrated Kuramoto oscillators, a challenge that has found applications from neuronal networks to the power grid, is an eluding problem, as even small phase-lags cause the oscillators to avoid synchronization. Here we show, constructively, how to strategically select the optimal frequency set, capturing the natural frequencies of all oscillators, for a given network and phase-lags, that will ensure perfect synchronization. We find that high levels of synchronization are sustained in the vicinity of the optimal set, allowing for some level of deviation in the frequencies without significant degradation of synchronization. Demonstrating our results on first and second order phase-frustrated Kuramoto dynamics, we implement them on both model and real power grid networks, showing how to achieve synchronization in a phase frustrated environment.Comment: To appear in Europhysics Letters, 7 pages, supplementary informatio

Optimizing synchronization in multiplex networks of phase oscillators

    No full text
We present an analytical scheme to achieve optimal synchronization in multiplex networks of frustrated and non-frustrated phase oscillators. We derive a multiplex synchrony alignment function (MSAF) for that purpose, the expression of which consists of structural as well as dynamical information of the layers of the multiplex network. Analyzing the MSAF, a set of frequencies (optimal frequencies) is determined to achieve optimal synchronization in the network. Further, using the scheme, we show that perfect synchronization can be achieved in a layer of the multiplex network for given coupling strength and phase frustration parameters. The analytical scheme presented here has been tested for heterogeneous multiplex networks of frustrated and non-frustrated Kuramoto dynamics

The role of psychic factors in pathogenesis of essential hypertension and its management by Shirodhara and Sarpagandha Vati

This clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of Shirodhara and that of Sarpagandha Vati in essential hypertension. A total 47 patients were selected for study, out of which 40 patients (20 in each group) completed the course of treatment. Study subjects were randomly allotted into two groups, with one group being treated with Shirodhara and the other with Sarpagandha Vati. Specialized Ayurvedic rating scales like Manasa Pariksha Bhava as well as the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale were adopted to assess the effect of therapy. The effects of treatment on the chief complaints and the associated complaints were also evaluated. The results in the Shirodhara group were better than that in the Sarpagandha group. Although both Sarpagandha Vati and Shirodhara helped in reducing systolic and diastolic pressures, the effect of Shirodhara was more marked
