    THE EFFECTS OF CORE STABILITY TRAINING ON THE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREEN AND POSTURAL STABILITY IN COLLEGIATE STUDENTS

    This study evaluated effects of core stability training (CST) on the functional movement screen (FMS) and postural stability (PS) in healthy young collegiate students. 28 healthy collegiate female students were assigned to an experimental (CST exercises twice a week for six weeks) or control group (equal time of warm-up and stretching exercises only). The CST combined Pilates and Swiss ball exercise for fifty minutes, twice per week, for six weeks. FMS scores were evaluated by a certified professional. The PS was evaluated by the 8-direction limits of stability (LOS) test using the Biodex Balance System. Repeated measures analyses of variance (ANOVAs) revealed the FMS and LOS performances in the experiment group were significantly improved after training. It was concluded that regular CST can improve the performance of FMS and dynamic postural stability in healthy young students

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of core stability training (CST) on dynamic balance in healthy young students. 24 healthy collegiate female students volunteered and underwent a series of CST exercise. Dynamic balance was evaluated by the 8-direction limits of stability (LOS) test. The CST combined the Pilates mat and Swiss ball exercise, ninety minutes, twice per week, for six weeks. The LOS performance in right and backward-right directions at level 3 was significant improved in post-training than pre-training. Furthermore, The LOS performance in overall, forward, right, forward,left, backward-right, and backward-left directions at level 6 were significant improved in post-training than pre-training. It is concluded that regular CST can improve the dynamic postural stability in healthy young students

    THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREEN AND THE POSTURAL STABILITY IN COLLEGIATE ATHLETES

    The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a tool developed recently not only to aid in the prevention of injury by objectively measuring dysfunction and asymmetries within movement patterns, but also could be used as a baseline for further strength, conditioning, or athletic development. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between the scores of FMS in relation to the postural stability (PS) in collegiate athletes. A total of 30 male, basketball athletes volunteered to join this study. The PS were measured by the Biodex Balance System as the displacements of the center of foot pressure (COP) in the limits of stability. The score of FMS were evaluated by one certified professional experts. The results showed that the score of FMS has relation to the performance of the PS in a certain extent, especially in the FMS-shoulder mobility to the LOS overall level 6 (r=.26-.41), in the FMS-active straight leg raise to the LOS forward, backward, right, right-back level 6 (r=.30-.39), and in the FMS-trunk stability push-up to the LOS right, back, and right-forward. It was concluded that the score of FMS might be used to evaluate and/or predict the performance of the PS in young, collegiate athletes

    Effect of variable shipping frequency on production-distribution policy in a vendor-buyer integrated system

    This paper investigates the effect of variable shipping frequency on production-distribution policy in a vendor-buyer integrated system. In a recent article Chiu et al. [1] derived the optimal replenishment lot size for an economic production quantity problem with multi-delivery and quality assurance, based on an assumption that the number of shipment is a given constant. However, in a vendor-buyer integrated system in supply chain environment, joint determination of replenishment lot size and number of shipments may help such a system to gain significant competitive advantage in terms of becoming a low-cost producer as well as having tight linkage to customer. For this reason, the present study extends the work of Chiu et al. [1] by considering shipping frequency as one of the decision variables and incorporating customer’s stock holding cost into system cost analysis. Hessian matrix equations are employed to certify the convexity of cost function that contains two decision variables, and the effect of variable shipping frequency on production-distribution policy is investigated. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate practical usage of the research result

    Hypolipidemic Effects of Three Purgative Decoctions

    In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), purgation is indicated when a person suffers an illness due to the accumulation of evil internal heat. Obese individuals with a large belly, red face, thick and yellow tongue fur, constipation, and avoidance of heat are thought accumulates of evil internal heat, and they are also treated with purgatives such as Ta-Cheng-Chi-Tang (TCCT), Xiao-Chen-Chi-Tang (XCCT), and Tiao-Wei-Chen-Chi-Tang (TWCCT) by TCM doctors. In previous studies, our group found that TCCT has potent anti-inflammatory activity, and that XCCT is an effective antioxidant. Since rhubarb is the principle herb in these three prescriptions, we will first present a thorough review of the literature on the demonstrated effect (or lack of effect) of rhubarb and rhubarb-containing polyherbal preparations on lipid and weight control. We will then continue our research with an investigation of the anti-obesity and lipid-lowering effect of TCCT, XCCT, TWCCT, and rhubarb extracts using two animal models. TWCCT lowered the serum triglyceride concentration as much as fenofibrate in Triton WR-1339-treated mice. Daily supplementation with XCCT and TWCCT significantly attenuated the high-fat-diet-induced hypercholesterolemia in rats. In addition, TWCCT also significantly lowered the high-fat-diet-induced hypertriglycemia. Although feeding high-fat diet rats with these extracts did not cause loose stools or diarrhea or other deleterious effects on renal or hepatic function. None of these extracts lowered the body weight of rats fed on high-fat diet. In conclusion, the results suggest that XCCT and TWCCT might exert beneficial effects in the treatment of hyperlipidemia

    Floating Point Arithmetic Protocols for Constructing Secure Data Analysis Application

    AbstractA large variety of data mining and machine learning techniques are applied to a wide range of applications today. There- fore, there is a real need to develop technologies that allows data analysis while preserving the confidentiality of the data. Secure multi-party computation (SMC) protocols allows participants to cooperate on various computations while retaining the privacy of their own input data, which is an ideal solution to this issue. Although there is a number of frameworks developed in SMC to meet this challenge, but they are either tailored to perform only on specific tasks or provide very limited precision. In this paper, we have developed protocols for floating point arithmetic based on secure scalar product protocols, which is re- quired in many real world applications. Our protocols follow most of the IEEE-754 standard, supporting the four fundamental arithmetic operations, namely addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We will demonstrate the practicality of these protocols through performing various statistical calculations that is widely used in most data analysis tasks. Our experiments show the performance of our framework is both practical and promising

    Preparing random state for quantum financing with quantum walks

    In recent years, there has been an emerging trend of combining two innovations in computer science and physics to achieve better computation capability. Exploring the potential of quantum computation to achieve highly efficient performance in various tasks is a vital development in engineering and a valuable question in sciences, as it has a significant potential to provide exponential speedups for technologically complex problems that are specifically advantageous to quantum computers. However, one key issue in unleashing this potential is constructing an efficient approach to load classical data into quantum states that can be executed by quantum computers or quantum simulators on classical hardware. Therefore, the split-step quantum walks (SSQW) algorithm was proposed to address this limitation. We facilitate SSQW to design parameterized quantum circuits (PQC) that can generate probability distributions and optimize the parameters to achieve the desired distribution using a variational solver. A practical example of implementing SSQW using Qiskit has been released as open-source software. Showing its potential as a promising method for generating desired probability amplitude distributions highlights the potential application of SSQW in option pricing through quantum simulation.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figure
