    Overbarrier Resonances as Solutions of Set Inhomogeneous Schr\"{o}dinger Equations

    In the paper the Schr\"odinger equation for quasibound resonance state with complex energy is considered. The system of inhomogeneous differential equations is obtained for the real and imaginary parts of wave function. On the base of known solution of corresponding homogeneous equation, the inhomogeneus system is solved with help of iteration procedure. The single-particle neutron 2p2p-state in the Woods - Saxon potential is analyzed for 13C^{13}C nucleus.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figure

    A general approximation of quantum graph vertex couplings by scaled Schroedinger operators on thin branched manifolds

    We demonstrate that any self-adjoint coupling in a quantum graph vertex can be approximated by a family of magnetic Schroedinger operators on a tubular network built over the graph. If such a manifold has a boundary, Neumann conditions are imposed at it. The procedure involves a local change of graph topology in the vicinity of the vertex; the approximation scheme constructed on the graph is subsequently `lifted' to the manifold. For the corresponding operator a norm-resolvent convergence is proved, with the natural identification map, as the tube diameters tend to zero.Comment: 19 pages, one figure; introduction amended and some references added, to appear in CM

    Duality and Anholonomy in Quantum Mechanics of 1D Contact Interactions

    We study systems with parity invariant contact interactions in one dimension. The model analyzed is the simplest nontrivial one --- a quantum wire with a point defect --- and yet is shown to exhibit exotic phenomena, such as strong vs weak coupling duality and spiral anholonomy in the spectral flow.     Dipole and Quadrupole Moments of Mirror Nuclei 8B and 8li

    Magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments of the mirror nuclei 8Li and 8B are analysed in the framework of the multiparticle shell model by using two approaches : i) the one-particle spectroscopic factors and ii) the one-particle fractional parentage coefficients. These two approaches are compared both each to other and with a microscopic multicluster model. The one-particle nucleon states are calculated taking into account the continuum by the method of the expansion of the Sturm - Liouville functions. The experimental magnetic and quadrupole moments of 8Li and 8Bare reproduced well by using fractional parentage coefficients technique. The root mean-square radii and the radial density distributions are obtained for these nuclei.Comment: 20 pages 1 figur

    Nanoscale Heat Transfer from Magnetic Nanoparticles and Ferritin in an Alternating Magnetic Field

    Recent suggestions of nanoscale heat confinement on the surface of synthetic and biogenic magnetic nanoparticles during heating by radio frequency-alternating magnetic fields have generated intense interest because of the potential utility of this phenomenon for noninvasive control of biomolecular and cellular function. However, such confinement would represent a significant departure from the classical heat transfer theory. Here, we report an experimental investigation of nanoscale heat confinement on the surface of several types of iron oxide nanoparticles commonly used in biological research, using an all-optical method devoid of the potential artifacts present in previous studies. By simultaneously measuring the fluorescence of distinct thermochromic dyes attached to the particle surface or dissolved in the surrounding fluid during radio frequency magnetic stimulation, we found no measurable difference between the nanoparticle surface temperature and that of the surrounding fluid for three distinct nanoparticle types. Furthermore, the metalloprotein ferritin produced no temperature increase on the protein surface nor in the surrounding fluid. Experiments mimicking the designs of previous studies revealed potential sources of the artifacts. These findings inform the use of magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia in engineered cellular and molecular systems

    Use of an Innovative Interprofessional Mini-Series Movie to Train Preceptors

    Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the innovative “Preceptor Mini-Series: Adventures in Interprofessional Precepting” movie program in training pharmacy preceptors on interprofessional competencies and to determine pharmacy preceptors’ perceptions of the effectiveness of the Mini-Series format. Methods: Chronicled by two preceptor experts, the Mini-Series movie follows the challenges of pharmacy, nursing, and medicine students and their preceptor during six-week experiential rotations. Pharmacy preceptors were invited to events held at movie theatres or local classrooms in three different cities. Participants were asked to provide basic demographic information and answer four “pre-program” and “post-program” survey questions focused on working in an interprofessional environment on a 5 point scale, 1=strongly disagree, 5=strongly agree. The post-program survey also included six additional questions to assess participant’s attitudes toward the effectiveness of this medium. Results: Fifty-eight (58) individuals attended the movie events. The majority had more than ten years of preceptor experience (n = 21, 36.2%), were female preceptors (n = 40, 69.0%), and practiced in an interprofessional environment (n = 48, 82.8%). The participants’ scores on all four interprofessional confidence level questions were significantly increased after viewing the Mini-Series movie and the overall mean increased from 4.47 (pre-confidence level) to 4.79 (post-confidence level, p < 0.001). There were no significant differences of confidence levels based on gender, location, or number of students a preceptor took on rotation each year. However, participants with fewer years of preceptor experience (0-10 years) had a significantly higher perceived learning score than those with more preceptor experience (>10 years) (4.89 vs. 4.63, p = 0.020). The mean for satisfaction (4.9, 3 questions) was slightly higher than the means for perceived learning (4.8, 1 question), and instructional approach (4.87, 3 questions). Implications: After program completion, pharmacy preceptors indicated an increase in confidence level for precepting in an interprofessional environment. The Mini-Series movie program also yielded positive feedback on its delivery format and suggests the medium may be effective to use for similar future training initiatives.
