    Investigation of the Surface Adhesion Phenomena and Mechanism of Gold-Plated Contacts at Superlow Making/Breaking Speed

    Surface adhesion phenomena of gold-plated copper contact materials are studied in conditions of nonarc load (5/15/25 V and 0.2/0.5/1 A) and superlow speed (25 and 50 nm/s) realized by a piezoactuator during the making and breaking processes. It is shown that softening and melting of local asperities leads to interface adhesion, which results from the joule heat generated by the contact resistance; it is determined that the change of contact force with time obeys the negative exponential distribution and the time constant is associated with the adhesion force directly. Based on the fitting experimental data, the relationship between the adhesion force F z and the contact resistance R d while breaking can be expressed as F z āˆ R d -1 , which indicates that the main component of contact resistance is the bulk resistance of weld nugget and the constriction resistance is negligible

    Observation and Understanding of the Initial Unstable Electrical Contact Behaviors

    Reliable and long-lifetime electrical contact is a very important issue in the field of radio frequency microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and in energy transmission applications. In this paper, the initial unstable electrical contact phenomena under the conditions of micro-newton-scale contact force and nanometer-scale contact gap have been experimentally observed. The repetitive contact bounces at nanoscale are confirmed by the measured instantaneous waveforms of contact force and contact voltage. Moreover, the corresponding physical model for describing the competition between the electrostatic force and the restoring force of the mobile contact is present. Then, the dynamic process of contact closure is explicitly calculated with the numerical method. Finally, the effects of spring rigidness and open voltage on the unstable electrical contact behaviors are investigated experimentally and theoretically.     An Adaptive Unscented Kalman Filtering Algorithm for MEMS/GPS Integrated Navigation Systems

    MEMS/GPS integrated navigation system has been widely used for land-vehicle navigation. This system exhibits large errors because of its nonlinear model and uncertain noise statistic characteristics. Based on the principles of the adaptive Kalman filtering (AKF) and unscented Kalman filtering (AUKF) algorithms, an adaptive unscented Kalman filtering (AUKF) algorithm is proposed. By using noise statistic estimator, the uncertain noise characteristics could be online estimated to adaptively compensate the time-varying noise characteristics. Employing the adaptive filtering principle into UKF, the nonlinearity of system can be restrained. Simulations are conducted for MEMS/GPS integrated navigation system. The results show that the performance of estimation is improved by the AUKF approach compared with both conventional AKF and UKF

    We study the spectrum of the Laplace operator of a complete minimal properly immersed hypersurface MM in Rn+1\R^{n+1}. (1) Under a volume growth condition on extrinsic balls and a condition on the unit normal at infinity, we prove that MM has only essential spectrum consisting of the half line [0,+āˆž)[0, +\infty). This is the case when limā”r~ā†’+āˆžr~Īŗi=0\lim_{\tilde{r}\to +\infty}\tilde{r}\kappa_i=0, where r~\tilde{r} is the extrinsic distance to a point of MM and Īŗi\kappa_i are the principal curvatures. (2) If the Īŗi\kappa_i satisfy the decay conditions āˆ£Īŗiāˆ£ā‰¤1/r~|\kappa_i|\leq 1/\tilde{r}, and strict inequality is achieved at some point yāˆˆMy\in M, then there are no eigenvalues.     Cognitively-inspired Agent-based Service Composition for Mobile & Pervasive Computing

    Automatic service composition in mobile and pervasive computing faces many challenges due to the complex and highly dynamic nature of the environment. Common approaches consider service composition as a decision problem whose solution is usually addressed from optimization perspectives which are not feasible in practice due to the intractability of the problem, limited computational resources of smart devices, service host's mobility, and time constraints to tailor composition plans. Thus, our main contribution is the development of a cognitively-inspired agent-based service composition model focused on bounded rationality rather than optimality, which allows the system to compensate for limited resources by selectively filtering out continuous streams of data. Our approach exhibits features such as distributedness, modularity, emergent global functionality, and robustness, which endow it with capabilities to perform decentralized service composition by orchestrating manifold service providers and conflicting goals from multiple users.     Research on Wavelet Singularity Detection Based Fault-Tolerant Federated Filtering Algorithm for INS/GPS/DVL Integrated Navigation System

    Soft faults in navigation sensors will lead to the degradation of the accuracy and reliability of integrated navigation system. To solve this problem, a wavelet analysis and signal singularities based soft fault detection method are given out. To find signal singularities and detect the faults, the modulus maxima values are calculated after the wavelet transform of original signal. By calculating the Lipschitz exponent using the modulus maxima value at the fault point, the fault types are distinguished. Then, a fault-tolerant federated filtering algorithm for the calibration of INS/GPS/DVL integrated navigation system is proposed. Simulations are conducted and results show that sensor soft faults can be detected accurately. By effectively isolating the fault and refactoring information, the accuracy and reliability of navigation system are improved

    Probing EWSB Naturalness in Unified SUSY Models with Dark Matter

    We have studied Electroweak Symmetry Breaking (EWSB) fine-tuning in the context of two unified Supersymmetry scenarios: the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Model (CMSSM) and models with Non-Universal Higgs Masses (NUHM), in light of current and upcoming direct detection dark matter experiments. We consider both those models that satisfy a one-sided bound on the relic density of neutralinos, Ī©Ļ‡h2<0.12\Omega_{\chi} h^2 < 0.12, and also the subset that satisfy the two-sided bound in which the relic density is within the 2 sigma best fit of WMAP7 + BAO + H0 data. We find that current direct detection searches for dark matter probe the least fine-tuned regions of parameter-space, or equivalently those of lowest Higgs mass parameter Ī¼\mu, and will tend to probe progressively more and more fine-tuned models, though the trend is more pronounced in the CMSSM than in the NUHM. Additionally, we examine several subsets of model points, categorized by common mass hierarchies; M_{\chi_0} \sim M_{\chi^\pm}, M_{\chi_0} \sim M_{\stau}, M_{\chi_0} \sim M_{\stop_1}, the light and heavy Higgs poles, and any additional models classified as "other"; the relevance of these mass hierarchies is their connection to the preferred neutralino annihilation channel that determines the relic abundance. For each of these subsets of models we investigated the degree of fine-tuning and discoverability in current and next generation direct detection experiments.Comment: 26 pages, 10 figures. v2: references added. v3: matches published versio
