Lightning rods are effective to prevent lightning damage in power systems. However, under the influence of severe weather conditions, they often face failure problems, mainly manifested as tilt and fracture caused by bolt loosening which can result in significant economic losses. Therefore, it is very meaningful to detect the loosening of the lightning rod. The vibration-based method is an effective method for bolt loosening detection and is suitable for use on large lightning rods. This paper built a finite element model of the lightning rod Flange-Bolt Structure Unit (FBSU) based on the virtual material method, designed an effective acquisition test of the vibration signal under different loosening conditions of the lightning rod FBSU. The experimental results showed that it was effective to establish the dynamic model of the lightning rod FBSU by using the virtual material method. According to the measured vibration signal, the frequency response function was obtained by TIME MDOF method, and the preliminary judgment of bolt loosening can be realized. This study lays the foundation for the precise positioning and the extent of loosening detection of lightning rod bolt loosening, and also provides a guideline for the vibration test design of large bolted structures similar to lightning rods

Pancreatic Cancer Epidemiology, Detection, and Management

PC (pancreatic cancer) is the fourth most common cause of death due to cancer worldwide. The incidence and mortality rates have been increasing year by year worldwide, and this review has analyzed the most recent incidence and mortality data for pancreatic cancer occurrence in China. Several possible risk factors have been discussed here, involving known established risk factors and novel possible risk factors. The development of this cancer is a stepwise progression through intraepithelial neoplasia to carcinoma. Though early and accurate diagnosis is promising based on a combination of recent techniques including tumor markers and imaging modalities, lacking early clinical symptoms makes the diagnosis late. Correct staging is critical because treatment is generally based on this parameter. Treatment options have improved throughout the last decades. However, surgical excision remains the primary therapy and efficacy of conventional chemoradiotherapy for PC is limited. Recently, some novel new therapies have been developed and will be applied in clinics soon. This review will provide an overview of pancreatic cancer, including an understanding of the developments and controversies

The roles of sirtuins in ferroptosis

Ferroptosis represents a novel non-apoptotic form of regulated cell death that is driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation and plays vital roles in various diseases including cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders and cancers. Plenty of iron metabolism-related proteins, regulators of lipid peroxidation, and oxidative stress-related molecules are engaged in ferroptosis and can regulate this complex biological process. Sirtuins have broad functional significance and are targets of many drugs in the clinic. Recently, a growing number of studies have revealed that sirtuins can participate in the occurrence of ferroptosis by affecting many aspects such as redox balance, iron metabolism, and lipid metabolism. This article reviewed the studies on the roles of sirtuins in ferroptosis and the related molecular mechanisms, highlighting valuable targets for the prevention and treatment of ferroptosis-associated diseases

Background/Aims: Matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9), a potent endopeptidase degrading extracellular matrix, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of ischaemic stroke (IS). The present study was undertaken to determine the association of MMP9 gene polymorphisms and the risk of IS in a southern Chinese population. Methods: A cohort of 1274 patients and 1258 age-matched healthy controls were genotyped to detect the four MMP9 polymorphisms (rs17156, rs3787268, rs3918241 and rs3918242) using SNaPshot. Results: Our study demonstrated a significant difference in the genotype and allele frequencies of the MMP9 rs3918242 polymorphism between the IS patients and the controls (P = 0.012 for the genotype and P = 0.0092 for the allele). Stratification by smoking status showed statistically significant differences in the frequency and allele of the rs3918242 polymorphism between IS patients and the controls (P = 0.0052 for the genotype and P = 0.0019 for the allele). Further stratification by IS subtypes revealed that the presence of the T allele of the MMP9 rs3918242 polymorphism confers a higher risk of the large artery atherosclerosis subtype of IS (P = 0.017). Moreover, IS patients with the rs3918242 T allele of MMP9 presented with increased serum MMP9 production, and this increase was more significant in smokers with IS (P = 0.022). Patients carrying the variant T allele of the MMP9 rs3918242 polymorphism exhibited significantly higher infarct volumes than those with the major CC genotype (P = 0.036). Conclusion: Our study provides preliminary evidence that the MMP9 rs3918242 polymorphism is linked to a higher risk of IS, confirming the role of MMP9 in the pathophysiology of IS, with potentially important therapeutic implications

Influence of unbalanced electromagnetic force and air supply pressure fluctuation in air bearing spindles on machining surface topography

Air bearing spindles (ABS) can meet high accuracy demands for the precise rotation motion, which adopt air bearings to support spindle shaft, and the spindle shaft directly connects the motor rotor. The unbalanced electromagnetic force caused by motor rotor eccentricity (MRE) and air pressure fluctuation (APF) are two important influential factors to the dynamic performance of the spindle system and machining surface quality. This paper addresses the problems of measuring the MRE and APF in an ABS through testing machining surface topography. A permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) was modelled by finite element simulation (FES). Through FES it found that the MRE between the motor rotor and stator hole produced a radial magnetic force (RMF), which could cause ABS to periodically vibrate in the axial direction. Besides, the change of the air supply caused the stiffness variation of ABS and result in the tilt error motions of the spindle shaft. A theoretical model of machining surface topography considering MRE and APF was then proposed for the first time, which revealed that the MRE and APF resulted in the periodic fluctuations of the machining surface topography. The overall surface topography then became grooved surfaces. The above findings were finally validated by measurement results of ultraprecision diamond turning experiments

The air bearing motorized spindle (ABMS) is the key component of the ultra-precision machine tool, which plays an important role in the ultra-precision machining process and directly influences machining accuracy. The influence of unbalanced magnetic force (UMF) on the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the ABMS is not understood clearly. To reveal the potential influence of the UMF, a mathematical model of the ABMS considering multiphysics fields is established. The variation trend of the UMF is simulated, and the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the ABMS is analyzed which emphasizes on the stability of the rotating shaft. It is shown that the UMF varies linearly at large rotor eccentricity which meets well with previous research, but it is noteworthy the UMF varies nearly to a quadratic function at small rotor eccentricity. The result of rotor dynamics shows that the UMF can change the converge position of the rotor center and the converge speed. Moreover, when at certain rotor mass and external load, the UMF can enlarge the stability boundary of the rotor. This research provides an example of analyzing the nonlinear dynamic behavior of the ABMS considering multiphysics fields which may help to the further investigation
