    Lee-Yang Zeros of a Bosonic system associated with a single trapped ion

    Zeros of partition functions, in particular Lee-Yang zeros, in a complex plane provide important information for understanding phase transitions. A recent discovery on the equivalence between the coherence of a central quantum system and the partition function of the environment in the complex plane enabled the experimental study of Lee-Yang zeros, with several pioneering experiments on spin systems. Lee-Yang zeros have not been observed in Bosonic systems. Here we propose an experimental scheme to demonstrate Lee-Yang zeros in Bosonic systems associated with a single trapped ion by introducing strong coupling between the spin and motion degrees of freedom, i.e. beyond the weak coupling Lamb-Dicke regime. Our scheme provides new possibilities for quantum simulation of the thermodynamics of Bosonic systems in the complex plane.Comment: 6 pages,6 figure

    Water and nitrogen availability co-control ecosystem CO2 exchange in a semiarid temperate steppe

    Both water and nitrogen (N) availability have significant effects on ecosystem CO2 exchange (ECE), which includes net ecosystem productivity (NEP), ecosystem respiration (ER) and gross ecosystem photosynthesis (GEP). How water and N availability influence ECE in arid and semiarid grasslands is still uncertain. A manipulative experiment with additions of rainfall, snow and N was conducted to test their effects on ECE in a semiarid temperate steppe of northern China for three consecutive years with contrasting natural precipitation. ECE increased with annual precipitation but approached peak values at different precipitation amount. Water addition, especially summer water addition, had significantly positive effects on ECE in years when the natural precipitation was normal or below normal, but showed trivial effect on GEP when the natural precipitation was above normal as effects on ER and NEP offset one another. Nitrogen addition exerted non-significant or negative effects on ECE when precipitation was low but switched to a positive effect when precipitation was high, indicating N effect triggered by water availability. Our results indicate that both water and N availability control ECE and the effects of future precipitation changes and increasing N deposition will depend on how they can change collaboratively in this semiarid steppe ecosystem

    Risk Factors of Postoperative Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak After Craniovertebral Junction Anomalies Surgery: A Case-Control Study

    Objective To identify potential risk factors for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage after craniovertebral junction (CVJ) anomaly surgery and to provide a reference for clinical practice. Methods Sixty-six patients who underwent elective CVJ anomaly surgery during a 6-year period (April 2013 to September 2019) were retrospectively included. Research data were collected from the patients’ medical records and imaging systems. Patients were divided into CSF leak and no CSF leak groups. Univariate tests were performed to identify potential risk factors. For statistically significant variables in the univariate tests, a logistic regression test was used to identify independent risk factors for CSF leakage. Results The overall prevalence of CSF leakage was 13.64%. Univariate tests showed that a basion-dental interval (BDI) > 10 mm and occipitalized atlas had significant intergroup differences (p 10 mm was an independent risk factor for CSF leakage, and patients with CVJ anomalies with a BDI > 10 mm were more likely to have postoperative CSF leaks (odds ratio, 14.67; 95% confidence interval, 1.48–30.88; p = 0.004). Conclusion It is necessary to maintain vigilance during CVJ anomaly surgery in patients with a preoperative BDI > 10 mm to avoid postoperative CSF leaks

    Differences in Physicochemical and Nutritional Properties of Breast and Thigh Meat from Crossbred Chickens, Commercial Broilers, and Spent Hens

    The objective of this study was to compare the physicochemical and nutritional properties of breast and thigh meat from commercial Chinese crossbred chickens (817 Crossbred chicken, 817C), imported commercial broilers (Arbor Acres broiler, AAB), and commercial spent hens (Hyline Brown, HLB). The crossbred chickens, commercial broilers and spent hens were slaughtered at their typical market ages of 45 d, 40 d, and 560 d, respectively. The results revealed that several different characteristic features for the three breeds. The meat of the 817C was darker than that of the other two genotypes. The 817C were also characterized by higher protein, lower intramuscular fat, and better texture attributes (cooking loss, pressing loss and Warner-Bratzler shear force [WBSF]) compared with AAB and HLB. The meat of the spent hens (i.e. HLB) was higher in WBSF and total collagen content than meat of the crossbred chickens and imported broilers. Furthermore, correlation analysis and principal component analysis revealed that there was a clear relationship among physicochemical properties of chicken meats. With regard to nutritional properties, it was found that 817C and HLB exhibited higher contents of essential amino acids and essential/non-essential amino acid ratios. In addition, 817C were noted to have highest content of microelements whereas AAB have highest content of potassium. Besides, 817C birds had particularly higher proportions of desirable fatty acids, essential fatty acids, polyunsaturated/saturated and (18:0+18:1)/16:0 ratios. The present study also revealed that there were significant differences on breast meat and thigh meat for the physicochemical and nutritional properties, regardless of chicken breeds. In conclusion, meat of crossbred chickens has some unique features and exhibited more advantages over commercial broilers and spent hens. Therefore, the current investigation would provide valuable information for the chicken meat product processing, and influence the consumption of different chicken meat
