Quotation as a Key to the Investigation of Ideological Manipulation in News Trans-Editing in the Taiwanese Press
News trans-editing, which has gate-keeping and adaptation as distinctive features, is widely adopted by news organizations to produce suitable target texts. Since news organizations are socially, politically and economically situated, news trans-editing is always mediated in one way or another. Using the trans-editing of quotation as a key, this paper conducts an empirical case study and investigates how the target newspapers’ ideologies systematically manipulate the seemingly “objective” trans-edited news texts. The case study data covers some news texts concerning China’s anti-secession law from the New York Times and the Washington Post, and their trans-edited Chinese versions from the China Times, the United Daily News and the Liberty Times in Taiwan. After introducing the relevant contextual factors, a comparative study of the source and target texts is made in terms of the following four aspects of quotation to identify recurrent shifts: quotation modes, news sources, quotation contents and reporting verbs. By analyzing ideological reasons behind the recurrent shifts against the contextual factors, this paper elaborates on the target newspapers’ ideological manipulation with practical examples.
Distance-aware Attention Reshaping: Enhance Generalization of Neural Solver for Large-scale Vehicle Routing Problems
Neural solvers based on attention mechanism have demonstrated remarkable
effectiveness in solving vehicle routing problems. However, in the
generalization process from small scale to large scale, we find a phenomenon of
the dispersion of attention scores in existing neural solvers, which leads to
poor performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes a distance-aware
attention reshaping method, assisting neural solvers in solving large-scale
vehicle routing problems. Specifically, without the need for additional
training, we utilize the Euclidean distance information between current nodes
to adjust attention scores. This enables a neural solver trained on small-scale
instances to make rational choices when solving a large-scale problem.
Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly outperforms
existing state-of-the-art neural solvers on the large-scale CVRPLib dataset

Tris[tris(1,10-phenanthroline-κ2 N,N′)iron(II)] dodecatungstoferrate dihydrate
The title compound, [Fe(C12H8N2)3]3[FeW12O40]·2H2O, was prepared under hydrothermal conditions. The discrete Keggin-type [FeW12O40]6− heteropolyoxoanion has threefold symmetry, with the FeII atom located on the threefold rotation axis. The central FeO4 tetrahedron in the anion shares its O atoms with four W3O13 trinuclear units, each of which is made up of three edge-shared WO6 octahedral units. The FeII atom in the complex cation, viz [Fe(phen)3]2+ (phen is 1,10-phenanthroline), shows a slightly distorted octahedral geometry defined by six N atoms from three phen ligands. The polyoxoanions pack together with the cations, with the disordered water molecules located in voids; the site occupancy factor for each water O atom is 0.33
Developmental Profiles of Preschool Children With Spastic Diplegic and Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy (CP) is a disorder of movement and posture control with multiple impairments. The clinical manifestations of CP vary among children. The aim of this study was to compare the developmental profiles of preschool children with either of two types of CP: spastic diplegic (SD) CP and spastic quadriplegic (SQ) CP. Relationships between the children's various developmental functions were also investigated. We recruited 137 children with spastic CP, aged 1-5 years (mean age = 3.7 ± 2.1 years), and we classified them into two groups: SD (n = 59) and SQ (n = 78). The comparison group comprised 18 children with typical development. Developmental functions were assessed in all the children, using the Chinese Child Development Inventory with the updated norms. This scale addressed eight functional domains: gross motor ability, fine motor ability, expressive language ability, concept comprehension ability, situation comprehension ability, self-help ability, personal-social skills, and general development. A development quotient (DQ) was determined for each domain as a percentage of the developmental age divided by the chronological age. The developmental profiles of the CP subtypes were found to differ. Children with SQ were found to have lower DQs than those with SD (p < 0.01). There was also a difference in the distribution of DQs between the SD and SQ groups, although the lowest DQ in both groups was for the gross motor domain. An uneven delay in the development of gross motor function was found in both groups of children with CP. Motor functions, including gross motor and fine motor functions, were significantly related to self-help ability. Complex and significant correlations among developmental functions were also identified in children with CP. The findings in the present study may allow clinicians to anticipate the developmental profile of children with CP on the basis of whether they have the SD or SQ subtype. This, in turn, is likely to facilitate individual assessment, goal setting, and the planning of interventions in children with CP
The Intoxication Effects of Methanol and Formic Acid on Rat Retina Function
Objective. To explore the potential effects of methanol and its metabolite, formic acid, on rat retina function. Methods. Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 3- and 7-day groups and a control. Experimental groups were given methanol and the control group were provided saline by gavage. Retinal function of each group was assessed by electroretinogram. Concentrations of methanol and formic acid were detected by GC/HS and HPLC, respectively. Results. The a and b amplitudes of methanol treated groups decreased and latent periods delayed in scotopic and photopic ERG recordings. The summed amplitudes of oscillatory potentials (OPs) of groups B and C decreased and the elapsed time delayed. The amplitudes of OS1, OS3, OS4, and OS5 of group B and OS3, OS4, and OS5 of group C decreased compared with the control group. The IPI1 of group B and IPI1-4 of group C were broader compared with the control group and the IPI1-4 and ET of group B were broader than group C. Conclusions. Both of scotopic and photopic retinal functions were impaired by methanol poisoning, and impairment was more serious in the 7-day than in the 3-day group. OPs, especially later OPs and IPI2, were more sensitive to methanol intoxication than other eletroretinogram subcomponents
μ-4,4′-Bipyridine-bis[aqua(4-hydroxypyridine-2,6-dicarboxylato)copper(II)]
The title compound, [Cu2(C7H3NO5)2(C10H8N2)(H2O)2], exhibits a centrosymmetric binuclear molecule. Each completely deprotonated 4-hydroxypyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid molecule assumes a tridentate chelating coordination mode. The square-pyramidal coordination geometry around the CuII ion is completed by the bridging bipyridine ligand and an apical water molecule. Adjacent complexes are connected via O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds to generate a three-dimensional supramolecular structure
