    Pleural Photodynamic Therapy and Surgery in Thoracic Cancer Patients with Pleural Spread

    Pleural spread from non-small cell lung cancer is a difficult situation. The average survival in the situation is about 6–9 months. We investigate the current management of this challenging condition. Although, there is no much evidence found in the literature, we do see the pleural photodynamic therapy giving some promising light in the dark night. However, the patients still require complete neoadjuvant and adjuvant therapies, as well as radical tumor resection. Pleural PDT is one of the multi-modality treatments, which combined can achieve satisfactory oncological results. The long-term survival can be achieved in more than half the patients. However, the side effects of pleural PDT include skin hypersensitivity, trachea and esophageal perforation, and ARDS, which we should keep in mind

    Primordial Black Hole Mass Function with Mass Gap

    Primordial black holes (PBHs) are mainly characterized by their mass function, in which there may be some huge suppression for certain mass spans. If this is the case, the absence of these PBHs will form mass gaps. In this paper, we investigate the PBH mass function with mass gap. Firstly, to obtain a data-supported PBH mass function with mass gap for subsolar masses PBHs, we fine-tune the coefficients of a model-independent power spectrum of primordial curvature perturbations. Then we take this unique PBH mass function into consideration and calculate the energy density spectrum of the stochastic gravitational wave background from PBH mergers. We find the location of its first peak almost has no relationship with the mass gap and is only determined by the probability distribution of frequencies at which PBH binaries merge. Apart from the first peak, there must be an accompanying smaller trough at higher frequency resulting from the mass gap. Therefore, the detection of this smaller trough will provide more information about inflation and PBH formation.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

    Design And Fabrication of Condenser Microphone Using Wafer Transfer And Micro-electroplating Technique

    A novel fabrication process, which uses wafer transfer and micro-electroplating technique, has been proposed and tested. In this paper, the effects of the diaphragm thickness and stress, the air-gap thickness, and the area ratio of acoustic holes to backplate on the sensitivity of the condenser microphone have been demonstrated since the performance of the microphone depends on these parameters. The microphone diaphragm has been designed with a diameter and thickness of 1.9 mm and 0.6 μ\mum, respectively, an air-gap thickness of 10 μ\mum, and a 24% area ratio of acoustic holes to backplate. To obtain a lower initial stress, the material used for the diaphragm is polyimide. The measured sensitivities of the microphone at the bias voltages of 24 V and 12 V are -45.3 and -50.2 dB/Pa (at 1 kHz), respectively.
