On a notion of maps between orbifolds, II. homotopy and CW-complex
This is the second of a series of papers which are devoted to a comprehensive
theory of maps between orbifolds. In this paper, we develop a basic machinery
for studying homotopy classes of such maps. It contains two parts: (1) the
construction of a set of algebraic invariants -- the homotopy groups, and (2)
an analog of CW-complex theory. As a corollary of this machinery, the classical
Whitehead theorem which asserts that a weak homotopy equivalence is a homotopy

Carfentrazone-ethyl Pond Dissipation and Efficacy on Floating Plants
Carfentrazone-ethyl (CE) is a reduced risk herbicide that
is currently being evaluated for the control of aquatic weeds.
Greenhouse trials were conducted to determine efficacy of
CE on water hyacinth (
Eichhornia crassipes
(Mart.) Solms-
Laub.), water lettuce (
Pistia stratiotes
L.), salvinia (
Salvinia
minima
Baker) and landoltia
(Landoltia punctata

. CE controlled water lettuce, water hyacinth
and salvinia at rates less than the maximum proposed
use rate of 224 g ha

. Water lettuce was the most susceptible
to CE with an EC

of 26.9 and 33.0 g ha

in two separate trials.

values were calculated to be 86.2 to
116.3 g ha

, and salvinia had a similar susceptibility to water
hyacinth with an EC

. Landoltia was not adequately
controlled at the rates evaluated. In addition, CE was
applied to one-half of a 0.08 ha pond located in North Central,
Florida to determine dissipation rates in water and hydrosoil
when applied at an equivalent rate of 224 g ha
-1
. The
half-life of CE plus the primary metabolite, CE-chloropropionic
acid, was calculated to be 83.0 h from the whole pond,
and no residues were detected in water above the limit of
quantification (5 Ī¼g L
-1
) 168 h after treatment. CE dissipated
rapidly from the water column, did not occur in the sediment
above the levels of quantification, and in greenhouse
studies effectively controlled three species of aquatic weeds

Organisational change and development of reformed Chinese township and village enterprises

Emerald does not grant permission for this article to be further copied/distributed or hosted elsewhere without the express permission from Emerald Group Publishing Limited.Purpose ā This paper aims to investigate the organisational changes (OCs) and the development of Chinese reformed township and village enterprises (RTVEs), their marketing and R&D strategies, and the impact of changes in terms of overall performance.
Design/methodology/approach ā A case study methodology involving semi-structured interviews is adopted. The unit chosen is the Guotai International Group (GTIG) in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou, Jiangsu province, China, in which the organisational changes over a period of over 40 years are analysed.
Findings ā OCs in Chinese RTVEs are found to be driven by a combination of local government plans and market forces. Considering the hybrid nature of the organisation and ownership structures, changes in Chinese RTVEs follow a very much ātop-downā approach.
Research limitations/implications ā The findings imply that managers appointed by the state in RTVEs usually lack the necessary skills in marketing and business management, and can be resistant to organisational changes, such as the willingness to undertake risks. As a result, RTVEs may become stuck in a cycle of low-cost, low-tech products, inhibiting any breakthrough in developing their own quality brands.
Originality/value ā This is one of few papers studying change over a long span of time to arrive at research findings that will be useful to academic researchers in their future work. The qualitative findings from this paper would also enrich the literatures on organisational change in Chinese RTVEs
Driving Operators Relevant: A Feature of Chern-Simons Interaction
By computing anomalous dimensions of gauge invariant composite operators
and in Chern-Simons fermion and boson
models, we address that Chern-Simons interactions make these operators more
relevant or less irrelevant in the low energy region. We obtain a critical
Chern-Simons fermion coupling, , for a phase
transition at which the leading irrelevant four-fermion operator
becomes marginal, and a critical Chern-Simons boson
coupling, , for a similar phase transition
for the leading irrelevant operator . We see this phenomenon

Determining the strange and antistrange quark distributions of the nucleon
The difference between the strange and antistrange quark distributions,
\delta s(x)=s(x)-\sbar(x), and the combination of light quark sea and strange
quark sea, \Delta (x)=\dbar(x)+\ubar(x)-s(x)-\sbar(x), are originated from
non-perturbative processes, and can be calculated using non-perturbative models
of the nucleon. We report calculations of and using
the meson cloud model. Combining our calculations of with
relatively well known light antiquark distributions obtained from global
analysis of available experimental data, we estimate the total strange sea

Spectral Lags Obtained by CCF of Smoothed Lightcurves
We present a new technique to calculate the spectral lags of gamma-ray bursts
(GRBs). Unlike previous processing methods, we first smooth the light curves of
gamma-ray bursts in high and low energy bands using the "Loess" filter, then,
we directly define the spectral lags as such to maximize the cross-correlation
function (CCF) between two smoothed light curves. This method is suitable for
various shapes of CCF; it effectively avoids the errors caused by manual
selections for the fitting function and fitting interval. Using the method, we
have carefully measured the spectral lags of individual pulses contained in
BAT/Swift gamma-ray bursts with known redshifts, and confirmed the
anti-correlation between the spectral lag and the isotropy luminosity. The
distribution of spectral lags can be well fitted by four Gaussian components,
with the centroids at 0.03 s, 0.09 s, 0.15 s, and 0.21 s, respectively. We find
that some spectral lags of the multi-peak GRBs seem to evolve with time
