Cost and benefits of using best management practices to control non-point sources of pollution under environmental and economic uncertainty

The economy of northwest Arkansas, including the Lincoln Lake watershed (a sub-watershed of the Illinois River), relies greatly upon livestock and poultry production. The supply of production by-products is increasingly under scrutiny as one of the potential sources of water pollution in the region. In light of the recent economic crisis, methodologies that help producers to evaluate the environmental and economic impacts of several practices before implementing them may be a cost-effective means of increasing BMP adoption. This study uses stochastic dominance techniques to evaluate, environmentally and economically, ten best management practices (BMPs) combinations to lessen water pollution in the Lincoln Lake watershed. All BMP combinations analyzed were effective in reducing total phosphorous (TP) losses. However, six combinations also decreased net returns (NR) when compared to a baseline. This suggests that including BMPs in the bermudagrass production systems may lead to increased NR risk. Without additional incentives, producers will not likely implement these BMP combinations regardless of their TP reduction benefits. Although, as expected, rankings of BMP combinations in terms of TP or NR differed from each other, four scenarios established that environmental and economic goals are not necessarily conflicting; they may be complementary. Additionally, this analysis revealed that producers’ risk preferences did not matter when selecting among the top-four BMP combinations but it could be a factor for other less preferred scenarios.nonpoint pollution, watershed, best management practices, risk analysis, stochastic dominance, Environmental Economics and Policy, Risk and Uncertainty, Q25, Q53,

Influence of Korean Culture on Buying Behaviour among youths in Mizoram

    Get PDF
Examining the entrance behaviour to look for similarities in buying behaviour in the international market has been an interesting field area for marketing research. This paper examines the influence of Korean culture in northeast India and the entrance of the market through social similarity, lifestyle similarity, cultural similarity and product acceptance, cuisine similarity and product purchase. The study analyses the data collected from youngsters of Mizoram state in northeast India and moderation and mediation analysis was carried out. The moderation analysis was based on gender and mediation analysis with the variables of Korean cultural proximity, cultural adaption and purchase of Korean products.  The study finds that the inclusion of cultural influence mediates the relationship between the factors of cultural proximity and Korean product purchase

    η-Ricci Soliton on 3-Dimensional f-Kenmotsu Manifolds

The object of the present paper is to carry out η-Ricci soliton on 3-dimensional regularf-Kenmotsu manifold and we turn up some geometrical results. Furthermore we bring out the curvature conditions for which η-Ricci soliton on such manifolds are shrinking, steady or expanding. We wind up by considering examples of existence of shrinking and expanding η-Ricci soliton on 3-dimensional regularf-Kenmotsu manifolds

Quinolinium Dichromate Oxidation of Aliphatic Aldehydes: A Kinetic Study

    Get PDF
Kinetic data on the rates of quinolinium dichromate oxidation of a series of aliphatic aldehydes have been determined and discussed with reference to aldehyde hydration equilibria. Kinetic results support a pathway proceeding via a rate-determining oxidative decomposition of a chromate ester of an aldehyde hydrate. A cyclic transition state is suggested; being a Hückel-type system (4n + 2), this would be an allowed process. The deuterium isotope effect for the oxidation of acetaldehyde (kH / kD = 6.4) indicated a carbon-hydrogen cleavage rather than a carbon-carbon cleavage
