This study provides more insights on the existing literature regarding Entrepreneurial – Orientation (EO) and employee attitudes. It focuses on evaluating the correlation between three dimensions of EO: innovativeness, risk-taking and proactiveness and two aspects of employee attitude: job satisfaction and organizational commitment. This empirical study was conducted in the context of service industry in Viet Nam by using data collected through 143 employees in Viet Nam. The results from analyzing the collected data revealed that innovativeness and proactiveness have significant positive impacts on employee attitude in both aspects. Especially, proactiveness shows the strongest influence on all facets of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Risk-taking dimension shows no significant impact on both intrinsic satisfaction and organizational commitment. In developing country like Vietnam, extrinsic satisfaction shows the most impact on job satisfaction rather than intrinsic aspect. Likewise, some managerial implications are suggested to the managers of companies who would like to apply EO to enhance the employee’s attitude. This study based on the three-dimension of EO model introduced by Covin and Slevin (1989); the Job Diagnostic developed by Hackman and Oldham (1974); Job Descriptive Index invented by Spector (1985) and the three-component of organizational commitment developed Meyer, Allen, and Smith (1993) to build the theoretical background for this study. Then, a final framework has been presented to illustrate the impact of three dimensions of EO working environment namely innovativeness, risk-taking and proactiveness on employee attitude aspects namely job satisfaction and organizational commitment. In this framework, all three dimensions have positive relationship with of employee’s job satisfaction. However, only innovativeness and proactiveness have positive impact on organizational commitment of employees while risk-taking dimension has no relationship with this aspect of employee’s attitude.Bài nghiên cứu này cung cấp nhiều giá trị học thuật cho các đề tài liên quan đến Định hướng sáng nghiệp và thái độ của nhân viên.

    Get PDF
Teaching EFL writing has been one of the most trending research fields recently. Among the techniques being tested, using instructional rubrics has drawn much attention from researchers and teachers. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of using rubrics in enhancing students’ writing skill and the students’ attitudes towards this technique. The study used the experimental research design. The participants were thirty English-majored eleventh-grade students (N=30) in a high school in Can Tho City, Viet Nam. The main research tools included two guiding rubrics, one writing pre-test, two writing post-tests, and a questionnaire. Holistic and analytic rubrics were used in the teaching of writing skill to the participants to help them understand the targets for learning and the standards of quality for their writing work.  Data from the pre- and post- writing tests indicated significant changes in students’ writing performance after using both holistic and analytic rubrics. Besides, the results of the questionnaire revealed learners’ positive perceptions of this technique. It could be suggested that high school teachers should take into account the use of rubrics in teaching writing for EFL students.  Article visualizations

Estimates for the elastic moduli of 2D aggregate of hexagonal-shape orthorhombic crystals with in-plane random crystalline orientations

Numerical finite element simulations on the homogenization problem for large samples of particular 2D hexagonal-shape-geometry random orientation aggregates from the base crystals of orthorhombic symmetry have been performed. At sufficiently large random-aggregate samples, the scatter intervals of the macroscopic 2D bulk and shear elastic moduli converge toward the Voigt-Reuss-Hill bounds, and then our recently constructed theoretical estimates, which have been specified for the aggregates

An investigation of the academic consulting competence of high school teachers in Vietnam

    Get PDF
High school students must grapple with a host of issues and encounter difficulties when studying at schools, such as peer pressure, test anxiety, cyberbullying, unhealthy relationships, psychological distress, depression and possibly domestic issues. These obstacles create the need for academic consulting in order for high school students to develop essential skills and then solve problems. This study aims to examine the high school teachers' perceptions and the quality of academic consulting competence in the Vietnamese educational context. This study surveyed 1089 high school students and 289 teachers in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam with the 43-item questionnaire. The main results showed that academic consulting competence had been noticed and trained professionally for high school teachers. Additionally, both students and high school teachers recognized the essential role of high school teachers' academic consulting competence in educational settings

Mergers & Acquisitions Market in Vietnam’s Transition Economy

    Get PDF
This paper is the first major and a thorough study on the Merger & Acquisition (M&A) activities in Vietnam’s emerging market economy, covering almost entirely the M&A history after the launch of Doi Moi. The surge in these activities since mid-2000s by no means incidentally coincides with the jump in FDI and FPI inflows into the nation. M&A industry in Vietnam has its socio-cultural traits that could help explain economic happenings, with anomalies and transitional characteristics, far better than even the most complete set of empirical data. Proceeds from the sales of existing assets and firms have mainly flowed into the highly speculative industries of securities, banking, non-bank financials, portfolio investments and real estates. The impact of M&A on Vietnam’s long-term prosperity is thus highly questionable. An observable high degree of volatility in the M&A processes would likely blow out the high ex ante expectations by many speculators, when ex post realizations finally arrive. The effect of the past M&A evolution in Vietnam has been indecisively positive or negative, with significant presence of rent-seeking and likelihood of causing destructive entrepreneurship. From a socio-economic and cultural view, the degree of positive impacts may result in domestic entrepreneurship which will perhaps be the single most important indicator

Groundwater recharge in Mekong River Delta: An application of the water-table fluctuation method in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle and the Ca Mau Peninsula

    Get PDF
Local groundwater recharge was determined using the Water Table Fluctuation method in the Long Xuyen Quadrangle and the Ca Mau Peninsula to refine existing estimates in a range of aquifer lithologies in light of climate change. The approach takes advantage of long term monthly water level records of Vietnam by Division of Water Resources Planning and Investigation for the South of Vietnam. An analysis of water levels in eight observation wells during four climatically distinct years (2005, 2009, 2013, and 2020) was used in combination with the monthly meteorological data. Groundwater recharge was estimated by the Water Table Fluctuation method to vary from 95.7 to 150.4 mm/year and account for 5.3 to 7.5% of the total rainfall. The estimates fall within the range of values used in regional-scale recharge models and demonstrate the potential of the Water Table Fluctuation method for resolving spatial and temporal variations of groundwater recharge

The diagnosis of dengue in patients presenting with acute febrile illness using supervised machine learning and impact of seasonality

Background: Symptomatic dengue infection can result in a life-threatening shock syndrome and timely diagnosis is essential. Point-of-care tests for non-structural protein 1 and IgM are used widely but performance can be limited. We developed a supervised machine learning model to predict whether patients with acute febrile illnesses had a diagnosis of dengue or other febrile illnesses (OFI). The impact of seasonality on model performance over time was examined. Methods: We analysed data from a prospective observational clinical study in Vietnam. Enrolled patients presented with an acute febrile illness of 90%). Conclusion: Supervised machine learning models are able to discriminate between dengue and OFI diagnoses in patients presenting with an early undifferentiated febrile illness. These models could be of clinical utility in supporting healthcare decision-making and provide passive surveillance across dengue endemic regions. Effects of seasonality and changing disease prevalence must however be taken into account—this is of significant importance given unpredictable effects of human-induced climate change and the impact on health

Adsorption of Methyl Orange Dyes on Oriented Co/Fe-MOF Bimetallic Organic Framework in Wastewater Treatment

The production of highly efficient and reusable adsorbents that can be used in pigment treatment has been of great scientific interest. Metallic organic frameworks (MOFs) are considered a new type of material with extremely diverse structures and can be used as adsorbents to remove environmental pollutants. The selected Co/Fe-MOF material was synthesized in this study by using the solvent-thermal method. Then, the effects of several influencing factors such as adsorbent dosage, pH, initial concentration of MO, and exposure time on the adsorption capacity of methyl orange (MO) dyes by Co/Fe-MOF were evaluated. Under acidic conditions (pH 4), the effective removal of MO from aqueous solution reached equilibrium after 60 min upon exposure to MO at the concentration of 200 mg/L, and the adsorption capacity was 137.6 mg/g. The two models of adsorption isotherms, Freundlich and Langmuir, showed good compatibility with the experimental data, and the calculated correlation coefficients (R2) were both greater than 0.96. The MO adsorption efficiency was proposed to fit the pseudo-quadratic and pseudo-first-order kinetic models. Therefore, MOF materials can be considered as a potential agent for wastewater treatment, thereby providing a possible solution to solve water pollution
