Universal bifurcation property of two- or higher-dimensional dissipative systems in parameter space: Why does 1D symbolic dynamics work so well?
The universal bifurcation property of the H\'enon map in parameter space is
studied with symbolic dynamics. The universal- region is defined to
characterize the bifurcation universality. It is found that the universal-
region for relative small is not restricted to very small values. These
results show that it is also a universal phenomenon that universal sequences
with short period can be found in many nonlinear dissipative systems.Comment: 10 pages, figures can be obtained from the author, will appeared in

An Approximate KAM-Renormalization-Group Scheme for Hamiltonian Systems
We construct an approximate renormalization scheme for Hamiltonian systems
with two degrees of freedom. This scheme is a combination of
Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) theory and renormalization-group techniques. It
makes the connection between the approximate renormalization procedure derived
by Escande and Doveil, and a systematic expansion of the transformation. In
particular, we show that the two main approximations, consisting in keeping
only the quadratic terms in the actions and the two main resonances, keep the
essential information on the threshold of the breakup of invariant tori.Comment: 6 pages, RevTe
Bifurcations of two coupled classical spin oscillators
Two classical, damped and driven spin oscillators with an isotropic exchange
interaction are considered. They represent a nontrivial physical system whose
equations of motion are shown to allow for an analytic treatment of local
codimension 1 and 2 bifurcations. In addition, numerical results are presented
which exhibit a Feigenbaum route to chaos.Comment: 16 pages, .dvi and postscrip
Nonlinear Dynamics of the Perceived Pitch of Complex Sounds
We apply results from nonlinear dynamics to an old problem in acoustical
physics: the mechanism of the perception of the pitch of sounds, especially the
sounds known as complex tones that are important for music and speech
intelligibility
