    Object-fabrication Targeted Attack for Object Detection

    Recent researches show that the deep learning based object detection is vulnerable to adversarial examples. Generally, the adversarial attack for object detection contains targeted attack and untargeted attack. According to our detailed investigations, the research on the former is relatively fewer than the latter and all the existing methods for the targeted attack follow the same mode, i.e., the object-mislabeling mode that misleads detectors to mislabel the detected object as a specific wrong label. However, this mode has limited attack success rate, universal and generalization performances. In this paper, we propose a new object-fabrication targeted attack mode which can mislead detectors to `fabricate' extra false objects with specific target labels. Furthermore, we design a dual attention based targeted feature space attack method to implement the proposed targeted attack mode. The attack performances of the proposed mode and method are evaluated on MS COCO and BDD100K datasets using FasterRCNN and YOLOv5. Evaluation results demonstrate that, the proposed object-fabrication targeted attack mode and the corresponding targeted feature space attack method show significant improvements in terms of image-specific attack, universal performance and generalization capability, compared with the previous targeted attack for object detection. Many TADF design strategies are first applied in compounds that contain triazines, and there are numerous examples of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with triazine-containing emitters that show high efficiencies and long operating lifetimes. A comprehensive review of triazine-containing TADF emitters is provided. This review is organized according to the triazine-derived structural motifs, such as number and position of electron-donor groups in donor?acceptor-type emitters, the π-bridging linkers employed, orientation control of the transition dipole moment, and the design of chiral and through-space charge-transfer emitters. The structure of the compounds with their optoelectronic properties and the corresponding performance of the OLED devices is correlated.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    Elements content in tree rings from Xi'an, China and environmental variations in the past 30 years

    Using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES), the characteristics of chemical elements were analyzed in white poplar (Populus bonatii Levl.) and ailanthus (Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle) from three sites in the town of Xi'an, China. The results indicated that the concentration variations of Pb and Cd in tree rings were consistent with that of the environment where the trees were growing. P and Zn were translocated within tree rings to a certain degree, which led to an inaccurate pollution reconstruction. We also found that white poplar had a stronger absorptive capacity of Cd and Zn than ailanthus, which could make white poplar better as a species in environmental remediation. From this research we can see the great potential of tree rings for studying the history of different element pollution in the environment, showing that dendrochemical methods could be used as a powerful component in environmental monitoring programmes, to reconstruct past pollution history at the time when monitoring systems were not yet installed.     Regional difference of the start time of the recent warming in Eastern China: prompted by a 165-year temperature record deduced from tree rings in the Dabie Mountains

    Tree-ring studies from tropical to subtropical regions are rarer than that from extratropical regions, which greatly limit our understanding of some critical climate change issues. Based on the tree-ring-width chronology of samples collected from the Dabie Mountains, we reconstructed the April-June mean temperature for this region with an explained variance of 46.8%. Five cold (1861-1869, 1889-1899, 1913-1920, 1936-1942 and 1952-1990) and three warm (1870-1888, 1922-1934 and 2000-2005) periods were identified in the reconstruction. The reconstruction not only agreed well with the instrumental records in and around the study area, but also showed good resemblance to previous temperature reconstructions from nearby regions, indicating its spatial and temporal representativeness of the temperature variation in the central part of eastern China. Although no secular warming trend was found, the warming trend since 1970 was unambiguous in the Dabie Mountains (0.064 A degrees C/year). Further temperature comparison indicated that the start time of the recent warming in eastern China was regional different. It delayed gradually from north to south, starting at least around 1940 AD in the north part, around 1970 AD in the central part and around 1980s in the south part. This work enriches the high-resolution temperature reconstructions in eastern China. We expect that climate warming in the future would promote the radial growth of alpine Pinus taiwanensis in the subtropical areas of China, therefore promote the carbon capture and carbon storage in the Pinus taiwanensis forest. It also helps to clarify the regional characteristic of recent warming in eastern China.</p

    Tree-ring-based precipitation reconstruction in the source region of Weihe River, northwest China since AD 1810

    A tree-ring width chronology of Picea purpurea Mast from Mt. Shouyang in the source region of Weihe River (SWR), northwest China, was developed in this study. Correlation analysis showed that the precipitation from previous August to current July was the limiting climate factor of tree growth. Using a reliable and stable linear regression model, which explained 42.6% of the variance of the actual precipitation during the calibration period from 1958 to 2014, a 205-year long precipitation series was reconstructed for the SWR. The dry years in the reconstruction were well supported by historical documents, and famous historical droughts were also recorded in the dry periods of a low-frequency scale of the reconstructed precipitation. As demonstrated by the spatial correlation patterns, the reconstructed series compared well with other hydroclimate records for northwest China, indicating that it could represent large-scale hydroclimate changes. The 2-8-year interannual cycles and the interdecadal quasiperiods of 15.9 years and 18.6 years revealed that the precipitation in this region was probably affected by the El Nino-Southern Oscillation and North Atlantic Oscillation. The dry/wet years corresponded well with the El Nino/La Nina events and the SWR commonly experienced droughts during the low periods of North Atlantic Oscillation

    The influence of nitrogen doping of the acceptor in orange–red thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters and OLEDs

However, most of the studies have focused disparately on donor/acceptor combinations to yield efficient emitters, while it is rare that there is a methodological study to investigate the influence of the nitrogen (N) doping ratios on the ground and excited states of PAH acceptors. Here, we report a family of four different N-PAH acceptors containing different numbers of nitrogen atoms within the N-PAH and their use in D-A TADF emitters, DMACBP, DMACPyBP, DMACBPN and DMACPyBPN, when coupled to the same donor, 9,9-dimethyl-9,10-dihydroacridine (DMAC). As the nitrogen content in the acceptor increases the LUMO becomes progressively more stabilized while the singlet-triplet energy gap (ΔEST) decreases and the rate constant for reverse intersystem crossing (kRISC) increases. In particular, introducing nitrogen at the 10-position of the dibenzo[a,c]phenazine (BP) leads to a more than ten-fold enhancement in kRISC in DMACPyBP and DMACPyBPN compared to DMACBP and DMACBPN. Among the OLEDs with all four emitters that with DMACBPN demonstrates the highest EQEmax of 19.4% at an emission peak of 588 nm. while the deepest red emitting device employed DMACPyBPN (λEL = 640 nm) with an EQEmax of 5.4%.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    Sunshine duration reconstruction in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau based on tree-ring width and its relationship to volcanic eruptions

    Sunshine is as essential as temperature and precipitation for tree growth, but sunshine duration reconstructions based on tree rings have not yet been conducted in China. In this study, we presented a 497-year sunshine duration reconstruction for the southeastern Tibetan Plateau using a width chronology of Abies forrestii from the central Hengduan Mountains. The reconstruction accounted for 53.5% of the variance in the observed sunshine during the period of 1961-2013 based on a stable and reliable linear regression. This reconstructed sunshine duration contained six sunny periods (1630-1656, 1665-1697, 1731-1781, 1793-1836, 1862-1895 and 1910-1992) and seven cloudy periods (1522-1629, 1657-1664, 1698-1730, 1782-1792, 1837-1861, 1896-1909 and 1993-2008) at a low-frequency scale. There was an increasing trend from the 16th century to the late 18th and early 19th centuries and a decreasing trend from the mid-19th to the early 21st centuries. Sunshine displayed inverse patterns to the local Palmer drought severity index on a multidecadal scale, indicating that this region likely experienced droughts under more sunshine conditions. The decrease in sunshine particularly in recent decades was mainly due to increasing atmospheric anthropogenic aerosols. In terms of the interannual variations in sunshine, weak sunshine years matched well with years of major volcanic eruptions. The significant cycles of the 2- to 7-year, 20.0-year and 35.2-year durations as well as the 60.2-year and 78.7-year durations related to the El-Nino Southern Oscillation, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation suggested that the variation in sunshine duration in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau was possibly affected by large-scale ocean-atmosphere circulations.     Rational molecular design of efficient yellow-red dendrimer TADF for solution-processed OLEDs : a combined effect of substitution position and strength of the donors

Open Access funding enabled and organized by Projekt DEAL.The development of high-performance solution-processed red organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) remains a challenge, particularly in terms of maintaining efficiency at high luminance. Here, we designed and synthesized four novel orange-red thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) dendrimers that are solution-processable: 2GCzBP , 2DPACzBP , 2FBP2GCz and 2FBP2DPACz . We systematically investigated the effect of substitution position and strength of donors on the optoelectronic properties. The reverse intersystem crossing rate constant (kRISC) of the emitters having donors substituted at positions 11 and 12 of the dibenzo[a,c]phenazine (BP) is more than 10-times faster than that of compounds substituted having donors substituted at positions 3 and 6. Compound 2DPACzBP , containing stronger donors than 2GCzBP , exhibits a red-shifted emission and smaller singlet-triplet energy splitting, ΔEST, of 0.01 eV. The solution-processed OLED with 10 wt% 2DPACzBP doped in mCP emitted at 640 nm and showed a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 7.8%, which was effectively maintained out to a luminance of 1,000 cd m−2. Such a device∙s performance at relevant display luminance is among the highest for solution-processed red TADF OLEDs. The efficiency of the devices was improved significantly by using 4CzIPN as an assistant dopant in a hyperfluorescence (HF) configuration, where the 2DPACzBP HF device shows an EQEmax of 20.0% at λEL of 605 nm and remains high at 11.8% at a luminance of 1,000 cd m−2, which makes this device one of the highest efficiency orange-to-red HF SP-OLEDs to date.Peer reviewe

    Tree-ring stable carbon isotope-based April-June relative humidity reconstruction since AD 1648 in Mt. Tianmu, China

    Based on accurate dating, we have determined the stable carbon isotope ratios (delta C-13) of five Cryptomeria fortunei specimens from Mt. Tianmu, a subtropical area in southern China. The five delta C-13 time series records are combined into a single representative delta C-13 time series using a &quot;numerical mix method.&quot; These are normalized to remove temporal variations of delta(13) C in atmospheric CO2 to obtain a carbon isotopic discrimination (Delta C-13) time series, in which we observe a distinct correlation between Delta C-13 and local April to June mean relative humidity (RH (AMJ) ) (n = 64, r = 0.858, p &lt; 0.0001). We use this relationship to reconstruct RH (AMJ) variations from ad 1648 to 2014 at Mt. Tianmu. The reconstructed sequence show that over the past 367 years, Mt. Tianmu area was relatively wet, but in the latter part of the twentieth century, under the influence of increasing global warming, it has experienced a sharp reduction in relative humidity. Spatial correlation analysis reveals a significant negative correlation between RH (AMJ) at Mt. Tianmu and Sea Surface Temperature (SSTs) in the western equatorial Pacific and Indian Ocean. In other words, there is a positive correlation between tree-ring delta C-13 in Mt. Tianmu and SSTs. Both observed and reconstructed RH (AMJ) show significant positive correlations with East Asian and South Asian monsoons from 1951 to 2014, which indicate that RH (AMJ) from Mt. Tianmu reflects the variability of the Asian summer monsoon intensity to a great extent. The summer monsoon has weakened since 1960. However, an increase in relative humidity since 2003 implies a recent enhancement in the summer monsoon
