This study presents the first evidence of human bocavirus infection in South Korean children. The virus was detected in 27 (8.0%) of 336 tested specimens, including 17 (7.5%) of 225 virus-negative specimens, collected from children with acute lower respiratory tract infection
Review on the current trends in tongue diagnosis systems
AbstractTongue diagnosis is an essential process to noninvasively assess the condition of a patient's internal organs in traditional medicine. To obtain quantitative and objective diagnostic results, image acquisition and analysis devices called tongue diagnosis systems (TDSs) are required. These systems consist of hardware including cameras, light sources, and a ColorChecker, and software for color correction, segmentation of tongue region, and tongue classification. To improve the performance of TDSs, various types TDSs have been developed. Hyperspectral imaging TDSs have been suggested to acquire more information than a two-dimensional (2D) image with visible light waves, as it allows collection of data from multiple bands. Three-dimensional (3D) imaging TDSs have been suggested to provide 3D geometry. In the near future, mobile devices like the smart phone will offer applications for assessment of health condition using tongue images. Various technologies for the TDS have respective unique advantages and specificities according to the application and diagnostic environment, but this variation may cause inconsistent diagnoses in practical clinical applications. In this manuscript, we reviewed the current trends in TDSs for the standardization of systems. In conclusion, the standardization of TDSs can supply the general public and oriental medical doctors with convenient, prompt, and accurate information with diagnostic results for assessing the health condition
Treadmill Exercise Alleviates Aging-induced Apoptosis in Rat Cardiac Myocytes
SummaryBackgroundThe incidence and prevalence of heart failure increases with age. Cardiomyocyte apoptosis contributes to the pathogenesis of heart failure. In the end-stage of human heart failure, increased cardiomyocyte apoptosis is observed. Exercise training is one of the nonpharmacological treatments for chronic heart failure.MethodsIn the present study, we investigated the effect of treadmill exercise on the aging-induced apoptosis within cardiac myocytes in relation to the expression of heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) using rats. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining and Western blotting for the expression of Bcl-2, Bax, HSP70, and phosphorylated p38 (p-p38) in the cardiac myocardium were conducted.ResultsAging induced apoptosis in the myocardium, which was confirmed by increased TUNEL-positive cells and the enhancement of Bax. Expression of HSP70 was suppressed and p-p38 expression was enhanced by aging. Treadmill exercise alleviated aging-induced apoptosis with enhancing HSP70 expression and suppressing p-p38 expression in the cardiac myocytes.ConclusionBased on the present results, it can be inferred that treadmill exercise can provide a cardioprotective effect on aging-induced apoptosis through the enhancement of HSP70 expression in the heart. Thus, regular exercise may be a useful strategy for preventing heart problems in the elderly
Linkless octree using multi-level perfect hashing
The standard C/C++ implementation of a spatial partitioning data structure, such as octree and quadtree, is often inefficient in terms of storage requirements particularly when the memory overhead for maintaining parent-to-child pointers is significant with respect to the amount of actual data in each tree node. In this work, we present a novel data structure that implements uniform spatial partitioning without storing explicit parent-to-child pointer links. Our linkless tree encodes the storage locations of subdivided nodes using perfect hashing while retaining important properties of uniform spatial partitioning trees, such as coarse-to-fine hierarchical representation, efficient storage usage, and efficient random accessibility. Intervention Strategies Based on Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model for Health Behavior Change: A Systematic Review
SummaryPurposeThis study systematically reviewed research on behavioral interventions based on the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model to investigate specific intervention strategies that focus on information, motivation, and behavioral skills and to evaluate their effectiveness for people with chronic diseases.MethodsA systematic review was conducted in accordance with the guidelines of both the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency and Im and Chang. A literature search was conducted using electronic databases. Randomized controlled trials that tested behavioral interventions based on the IMB model for promoting health behaviors among people with chronic diseases were included. Four investigators independently reviewed the studies and assessed the quality of each study. A narrative synthesis was used.ResultsA total of 12 studies were included in the review. Nine studies investigated patients with HIV/AIDS. The most frequently used intervention strategies were instructional pamphlets for the information construct, motivational interviewing techniques for the motivation construct, and instruction or role playing for the behavioral skills construct. Ten studies reported significant behavior changes at the first post-intervention assessment.ConclusionThis review indicates the potential strength of the IMB model as a theoretical framework to develop behavioral interventions. The specific integration strategies delineated for each construct of the model can be utilized to design model-based interventions
Progressive Fourier Neural Representation for Sequential Video Compilation
Neural Implicit Representation (NIR) has recently gained significant
attention due to its remarkable ability to encode complex and high-dimensional
data into representation space and easily reconstruct it through a trainable
mapping function. However, NIR methods assume a one-to-one mapping between the
target data and representation models regardless of data relevancy or
similarity. This results in poor generalization over multiple complex data and
limits their efficiency and scalability. Motivated by continual learning, this
work investigates how to accumulate and transfer neural implicit
representations for multiple complex video data over sequential encoding
sessions. To overcome the limitation of NIR, we propose a novel method,
Progressive Fourier Neural Representation (PFNR), that aims to find an adaptive
and compact sub-module in Fourier space to encode videos in each training
session. This sparsified neural encoding allows the neural network to hold free
weights, enabling an improved adaptation for future videos. In addition, when
learning a representation for a new video, PFNR transfers the representation of
previous videos with frozen weights. This design allows the model to
continuously accumulate high-quality neural representations for multiple videos
while ensuring lossless decoding that perfectly preserves the learned
representations for previous videos. We validate our PFNR method on the UVG8/17
and DAVIS50 video sequence benchmarks and achieve impressive performance gains
over strong continual learning baselines. The PFNR code is available at

Complication and Contraindication of Full Endoscopic Lumbar Decompression
By reviewing various literatures on endoscopic surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis and systematically analyzing the contraindications and complications of endoscopic surgery, the purpose of this study is to distinguish appropriate indications and contraindications for endoscopic surgery, and to predict the prognosis for the incidence of complications. We searched the PubMed databases to identify articles on endoscopic surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis. Preoperative exclusion criteria were included in contraindication, and complications that occurred during and after surgery were included. We analyzed clinical outcomes and classified the prescribed contraindication and complications according to the paper. We identified 120 articles, and 48 met our criteria, with evidence ranging from level I to level IV. After reviewing the literature, the analysis result, Contraindication of full endoscopic lumbar decompression are spondylolisthesis (>grade 2), instability, previous surgery, tumor (metastasis), infection, scoliosis, mainly back pain, painless weakness, cauda equine syndrome, etc. Complications of full endoscopic lumbar decompression are dura tearing, epidural hematoma, transient dysesthesia, untreated pain, motor weakness, cauda equine syndrome, incomplete decompression, etc. Fully endoscopic lumbar decompression is a safe, effective option for treating lumbar spinal stenosis, owever, it is important to select the surgical indication well, and various complications may occur after surgery
