Flavor Changing Neutral Currents in the Asymmetric Left-Right Gauge Model
In the
extension of the standard model, a minimal (but asymmetric) scalar sector
consists of one doublet and one bidoublet.
Previous and recent studies have shown that this choice is useful for
understanding neutrino mass as well as dark matter. The constraints from flavor
changing neutral currents mediated by the scalar sector are discussed in the
context of the latest experimental data
Multilepton Higgs Decays through the Dark Portal
The U(1)_D gauge sector containing one dark Higgs boson h_D and one dark
photon \gamma_D may be explored through the decays of the 126 GeV particle
discovered at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), assumed here as the heavier mass
eigenstate h_1 in the mixing of the standard model h with h_D. The various
decays of h_1 to \gamma_D \gamma_D, h_2 h_2, h_2 \gamma_D \gamma_D and h_2 h_2
h_2 would yield multilepton final states through the mixing of \gamma_D with
the photon and the decay h_2 \to \gamma_D \gamma_D, where h_2 is the lighter
dark Higgs. Future searches for signals of multilepton jets at the LHC may
reveal the existence of this possible dark sector governed simply by the
original Abelian Higgs model.Comment: 20 pages, 9 figures, 2 tables. New section added for signals of

Normalized ground state of a mixed dispersion nonlinear Schrodinger equation with combined power-type nonlinearities
We study the existence of normalized ground state solutions to a mixed dispersion fourth-order nonlinear Schrodinger equation with combined power-type nonlinearities. By analyzing the subadditivity of the ground state energy with respect to the prescribed mass, we employ a constrained minimization method to establish the existence of ground state that corresponds to a local minimum of the associated functional. Under certain conditions, by studying the monotonicity of ground state energy as the mass varies, we apply the constrained minimization arguments on the Nehari-Pohozaev manifold to prove the existence of normalized ground state solutions
Helical structures with switchable and hierarchical chirality
Chirality is present as a trend of research in biological and chemical communities for it has a significant effect on physiological properties and pharmacological effects. Further, manipulating specific morphological chirality recently has emerged as a promising approach to design metamaterials with tailored mechanical, optical, or electromagnetic properties. However, the realization of many properties found in nature, such as switchable and hierarchical chirality, which allows electromagnetic control of the polarization of light and enhancement of mechanical properties, in man-made structures has remained a challenge. Here, we present helical structures with switchable and hierarchical chirality inspired by origami techniques. We propose eggbox-based chiral units for constructing homogeneous and heterogeneous chiral structures and demonstrate a theoretical approach for tuning the chirality of these structures by modulating their geometrical parameters and for achieving chirality switching through mechanism bifurcation. Finally, by introducing a helical tessellation between the chiral units, we design hierarchical structures with chirality transferring from construction elements to the morphological level and discover a helix with two zero-height configurations during the unwinding process. We anticipate that our design and analysis approach could facilitate the development of man-made metamaterials with chiral features, which may serve in engineering applications, including switchable electromagnetic metamaterials, morphing structures, and bionic robots
Multi-parameter Tests of General Relativity Using Bayesian Parameter Estimation with Principal Component Analysis for LISA
In the near future, space-borne gravitational wave (GW) detector LISA can
open the window of low-frequency band of GW and provide new tools to test
gravity theories. In this work, we consider multi-parameter tests of GW
generation and propagation where the deformation coefficients are varied
simultaneously in parameter estimation and the principal component analysis
(PCA) method are used to transform posterior samples into new bases for
extracting the most informative components. The dominant components can be
better mesured and constrained and are more sensitive to potential departures
from general relativity (GR). We extend previous works by employing Bayesian
parameter estimation and performing both null tests and tests with injections
of subtle GR-violated signals. We also apply multi-parameter tests with PCA in
the phenomenological test of GW propagation. This work complements previous
works and further demonstrates the enhancement provided by the PCA method.
Considering a supermassive black hole binary system as the GW source, we find
that bounds of the most dominant PCA parameter can be one order of
magnitude tighter than the bounds of original deformation parameter of leading
frequency order. The departures less than in original parameters can
yield significant departures in first 5 dominant PCA parameters.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figure
Simultaneous electrical-field-effect modulation of both top and bottom Dirac surface states of epitaxial thin films of three-dimensional topological insulators
It is crucial for the studies of the transport properties and quantum effects
related to Dirac surface states of three-dimensional topological insulators (3D
TIs) to be able to simultaneously tune the chemical potentials of both top and
bottom surfaces of a 3D TI thin film. We have realized this in molecular beam
epitaxy-grown thin films of 3D TIs, as well as magnetic 3D TIs, by fabricating
dual-gate structures on them. The films could be tuned between n-type and
p-type by each gate alone. Combined application of two gates can reduce the
carrier density of a TI film to a much lower level than with only one of them
and enhance the film resistance by 10000 %, implying that Fermi level is tuned
very close to the Dirac points of both top and bottom surface states without
crossing any bulk band. The result promises applications of 3D TIs in field
effect devices.Comment: 19 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Nano Letters, forthcomin
DiffPose:SpatioTemporal Diffusion Model for Video-Based Human Pose Estimation
Denoising diffusion probabilistic models that were initially proposed for realistic image generation have recently shown success in various perception tasks (e.g., object detection and image segmentation) and are increasingly gaining attention in computer vision. However, extending such models to multi-frame human pose estimation is non-trivial due to the presence of the additional temporal dimension in videos. More importantly, learning representations that focus on keypoint regions is crucial for accurate localization of human joints. Nevertheless, the adaptation of the diffusion-based methods remains unclear on how to achieve such objective. In this paper, we present DiffPose, a novel diffusion architecture that formulates video-based human pose estimation as a conditional heatmap generation problem. First, to better leverage temporal information, we propose SpatioTemporal Representation Learner which aggregates visual evidences across frames and uses the resulting features in each denoising step as a condition. In addition, we present a mechanism called Lookup-based MultiScale Feature Interaction that determines the correlations between local joints and global contexts across multiple scales. This mechanism generates delicate representations that focus on keypoint regions. Altogether, by extending diffusion models, we show two unique characteristics from DiffPose on pose estimation task: (i) the ability to combine multiple sets of pose estimates to improve prediction accuracy, particularly for challenging joints, and (ii) the ability to adjust the number of iterative steps for feature refinement without retraining the model. DiffPose sets new state-of-the-art results on three benchmarks: PoseTrack2017, PoseTrack2018, and PoseTrack21
