Stream Flow Prediction by Remote Sensing and Genetic Programming

    Get PDF
A genetic programming (GP)-based, nonlinear modeling structure relates soil moisture with synthetic-aperture-radar (SAR) images to present representative soil moisture estimates at the watershed scale. Surface soil moisture measurement is difficult to obtain over a large area due to a variety of soil permeability values and soil textures. Point measurements can be used on a small-scale area, but it is impossible to acquire such information effectively in large-scale watersheds. This model exhibits the capacity to assimilate SAR images and relevant geoenvironmental parameters to measure soil moisture

The recent data of mass-square for the electron neutrino and the muon neutrino are probably negative. Motivated by this fact, we have further investigated the hypothesis that neutrinos are superluminal fermions. A tachyonic Dirac-type equation is further studied. This equation is equivalent to two Weyl equations coupled together via nonzero mass while respecting the maximum parity violation. It reduces to one Weyl equation when the neutrino mass becomes zero.

    Signature inversion for monotone paths

    Get PDF
The aim of this article is to provide a simple sampling procedure to reconstruct any monotone path from its signature. For every N, we sample a lattice path of N steps with weights given by the coefficient of the corresponding word in the signature. We show that these weights on lattice paths satisfy the large deviations principle. In particular, this implies that the probability of picking up a "wrong" path is exponentially small in N. The argument relies on a probabilistic interpretation of the signature for monotone paths

Students' View of Feedback on Electronic Assignments

    Get PDF
With the rapid development of technology, more and more universities put courses online. Electronic submissions become ordinary and seem largely reasonable choices. Yet, those instructors who employ blended approaches to interacting with students may also require students to submit their assignments electronically even though instructors and students meet on campus regularly as scheduled. Providing electronic feedback (e-feedback) by instructors becomes one of the central concerns in higher education. However, there is limited research in students’ views of e-feedback provided on submissions. This study, part of a large study, was intended to fill the void. All undergraduate students from a Midwestern university were surveyed regarding what they support: e-feedback and handwritten feedback and what their perceptions on efeedback based on the following five categories: accessibility, timeliness, legibility, quality and personal. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results show that the majority of the respondents preferred e-feedback for accessibility, timeliness, and legibility. While there were not as many supporters as those for accessibility, timeliness, and legibility, the theme of quality was supported more than that of personal. In this article, addressed are also limitations, educational implications, and future research suggestions. Keywords: feedback, electronic feedback, instructors, studen

Methods and systems for a subsurface upflow wetland for wastewater treatment that includes a series of parallel treatment cells, each cell including from bottom to top, a layer of gravel, a layer of sand over the gravel to remove pathogens from a septic effluent, a pollution control medium above the sand later to remove nurtients, total suspended solid, and biochemical oxygen demand and a growth media mixture layered on top of the pollution control pmedia to grow plants, and a gravity distrubition system to distribute effluent to the series of parallel treatment cells. The pollution control medium inlcudes at least one recycled material and at least one naturally occuring material. In an embodiment in includes recycled tire crumb, sand, and limestone or recycled tire crumb, compost, sand and limestone
