A case of abdominal tuberculosis: a challenging diagnosis

    Get PDF
Tuberculosis continues to intimidate the human race since traditional for an extremely long time not only due to its effects as a medical ailment, but also it impacts as a social and economic burden. Tuberculosis is a major health problem in developing countries. Abdominal tuberculosis is most common extra pulmonary tuberculosis. Tuberculosis can suspect in endemic countries like India, and can have various presentations and complications, it can mislead the diagnosis. Here, this case it involves small bowel, large bowel and peritoneum with different presentation

Extraction of Water-body Area from High-resolution Landsat Imagery

Extraction of water bodies from satellite imagery has been broadly explored in the current decade. So many techniques were involved in detecting of the surface water bodies from satellite data. To detect and extracting of surface water body changes in Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir, Andhra Pradesh from the period 1989 to 2017, were calculated using Landsat-5 TM, and Landsat-8 OLI data. Unsupervised classification and spectral water indexing methods, including the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Moisture Index (NDMI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), and Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI), were used to detect and extraction of the surface water body from satellite data. Instead of all index methods, the MNDWI was performed better results. The Reservoir water area was extracted using spectral water indexing methods (NDVI, NDWI, MNDWI, and NDMI) in 1989, 1997, 2007, and 2017. The shoreline shrunk in the twenty-eight-year duration of images. The Reservoir Nagarjuna Sagar lost nearly around one-fourth of its surface water area compared to 1989. However, the Reservoir has a critical position in recent years due to changes in surface water and getting higher mud and sand. Maximum water surface area of the Reservoir will lose if such decreasing tendency follows continuously

Efficacy of cling film dressing on palmoplantar psoriatic lesions among patients with psoriasis: A randomized controlled trial

Introduction: Caring for patients with skin disorders is “more than skin deep”. Psoriasis is a systematic immune-mediated disease that generally does not affect survival, but certainly has major negative effects on patients. The previous research has reported that artificial restoration of a permeable barrier by occlusion results in regression of lesions in psoriasis. The aim of this research is to assess the efficacy of cling film dressing versus conventional treatment on palmoplantar psoriatic lesions among patients with psoriasis. Methods: The research design used in the study was a true experimental time series design. Block randomization was used to assign the study participants into either study or control group in a Psoriatic Out-Patient Department of tertiary care center at Southern part of India. As usual, the intervention group participants received the application of topical corticosteroid Eczivate MF with cling film wrap while the control group participants followed the conventional treatment (topical corticosteroid Eczivate MF without occlusive dressing). The modified psoriasis severity index (MPSI) score was used to measure the outcomes. Results: There was a high statistical significance difference on the severity of psoriatic disease level between the control and study groups (p ˂ 0.05). Conclusion: Steroidal cream application with occlusive dressing yielded better results than non-occlusive open treatment

Correctional repositioning of pathologically migrated maxillary premolars through periodontal therapy

Pathological tooth migration (PTM) is the displacement of teeth as a balance among forces that maintain the position are disrupted. It is a common occurrence in a patient suffering from periodontitis. Its treatment includes periodontal therapy followed by a complex interdisciplinary approach to rectify the tooth position. However,  it has also been observed that in certain cases periodontal therapy alone can cause a corrective repositioning of the teeth leading to a closure or a reduction in the displacement. Present case report depicts a nineteen-year-old, healthy nonsmoker male patient with generalized Stage IV Grade C periodontitis. Deep periodontal pockets in #24 and #25 were observed along with a pathological migration of 1.6mm. The patient underwent conventional periodontal surgical intervention. It was noted that the therapy resulted in a reduction of the gap from 1.6 to 0.2mm and distal migration of #24 and a bucco-mesial migration of #25 in the course of one year of follow up. Thus, an early diagnosis and treatment of PTM through the restoration of periodontal health at the right time can cause a corrective repositioning of the teeth in a predictable direction

Intimate partner violence among South-Asian women : A scoping review of understanding and safeguards in modern marriages

    Get PDF
Abstract Intimate partner violence (IPV) is defined as a physical, sexual, or psychological form of violence by a male partner and is the most predominant form of violence against women globally. Violence always causes mental, physical, and emotional issues, causing substantial global public health concerns. Quantitative and qualitative studies were used for the review. A total of 163 research papers were identified by searching PubMed, Web of Sciences, Scopus, and Embase databases, and 14 papers were selected as relevant for the review. Among 14 studies, 12 were published in India, one from Pakistan, and one from Nepal. We found that IPV is highly prevalent with substance abuse, dowry system, male dominance, and spousal coercion leading to severe health problems. Utilising Intra Uterine devices (IUDs) as contraceptives, economic and electronic media empowerment, help-seeking behaviour as well as using the healthcare system enables safeguarding women from IPV

Thioether-Directed C4-Selective C-H Acylmethylation of Indoles Using α-Carbonyl Sulfoxonium Ylides

Site-selective direct functionalization of an indole benzenoid core has been a great challenge due to its inherently poor reactivity. We herein demonstrate an iridium-catalyzed C4-selective acylmethylation of indoles using α-carbonyl sulfoxonium ylides as carbene precursors. This method exhibits high efficiency and broad functional group compatibility. The directing group was easily removed or converted to other functionalities after the catalysis. The potential synthetic utility of the coupling products was highlighted by constructing medium-sized polycyclic indoles.Kona C.N., Nishii Y., Miura M.. Peri -Selective Direct Acylmethylation and Amidation of Naphthalene Derivatives Using Iridium and Rhodium Catalysts

An iridium-catalyzed acylmethylation and a rhodium-catalyzed amidation of naphthalene derivatives are reported, adopting sulfoxonium ylides and dioxazolones as carbene and nitrene transfer agents, respectively. The use of SMe group as a directing group was key to ensure the peri -selective functionalization, and it can be easily removed or diversely transformed to other synthetically useful functionalities after the catalysis. This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Thieme Publishing Group in Journal Title on Publication Date, available online at https://doi.org/10.1055/a-1472-1059

Sulfur-Directed C7-Selective Alkenylation of Indoles under Rhodium Catalysis

Regioselective direct functionalization of an indole benzenoid fragment has been a significant challenge be-cause of its inherently lower reactivity. In this report, we introduce a Rh-catalyzed C7-selective alkenylation of indole de-rivatives utilizing a new sulfur directing group N-SCy. A notable feature of this system is that the directing group is readily installed to the indoles and easily removed after the catalysis under mild conditions.Kona C.N., Nishii Y., Miura M..
