Tuberculosis (TB) is a life threatening disease caused due to infection from Mycobacterium tu¬berculosis (Mtb). That most of the TB strains have become resistant to various existing drugs, develop¬ment of effective novel drug candidates to combat this disease is a need of the day. In spite of intensive research world-wide, the success rate of discovering a new anti-TB drug is very poor. Therefore, novel drug discovery methods have to be tried. We have used a rule based computational method that utilizes a vertex index, named ‘distance exponent index (Dx)’ (taken x = –4 here) for predicting anti-TB activity of a series of acid alkyl ester derivatives. The method is meant to identify activity related substructures from a series a compounds and predict activity of a compound on that basis. The high degree of successful pre¬diction in the present study suggests that the said method may be useful in discovering effective anti-TB compound. It is also apparent that substructural approaches may be leveraged for wide purposes in com¬puter-aided drug design. (doi: 10.5562/cca2306

Optimal control for production inventory system with various cost criterion

In this article, we investigate a dynamic control problem of a production-inventory system. Here, demands arrive at the production unit according to a Poisson process and are processed in an FCFS manner. The processing time of the customers' demand is the exponential distribution. The production manufacturers produce the items on a make-to-order basis to meet customer demands. The production is run until the inventory level becomes sufficiently large. We assume that an item's production time follows exponential distribution and the amount of time for the produced item to reach the retail shop is negligible. Also, we assume that no new customer joins the queue when there is a void inventory. This yields an explicit product-form solution for the steady-state probability vector of the system. The optimal policy that minimizes the discounted/average/pathwise average total cost per production is derived using a Markov decision process approach. We find optimal policy using value/policy iteration algorithms. Numerical examples are discussed to verify the proposed algorithms.Comment: 5 figure

Performance Analysis of Three Routing Protocols in MANET Using the NS-2 and ANOVA Test with Varying Speed of Nodes

In this chapter, we analyzed ad hoc on demand distance vector (AODV), dynamic source routing (DSR), and destination-sequenced distance vector (DSDV) routing protocols using different parameters of QoS metrics such as packet delivery ratio (PDR), normalize routing overhead, throughput, and jitter. The aim of this chapter is to determine a difference between routing protocol performance when operating in a large-area MANET with high-speed mobile nodes. After the simulations, we use AWK to analyze the data and then Xgraph to plot the performance metric. After that we use one-way ANOVA tools to confirm the correctness of the result. We use NS-2 for the simulation work. The comparison analysis of these protocols will be carrying out and in the last, we conclude that which routing protocol is the best one for mobile ad hoc networks

Background: There is no consensus on treatment of closed femoral-shaft fractures in children. We compared hip spica cast with titanium elastic nailing (TEN) in the treatment of femoral-shaft fractures in children. Methods: Study was conducted at SMS Medical College, Jaipur (Rajasthan). Out of 90 Patients of diaphyseal fracture femur, 45were treated conservatively by spica cast and 45 were treated with TEN. Follow up done regularly up to twelve months of injury with taking into account, various parameters. Results: All diaphyseal fractures of femur healed, whether treated conservatively by spica cast or treated operatively with TEN. The time of union and weight bearing was less in operative group as comparative to spica cast group. Ten patients (22.22%) in spica group compared to three patients (6.66%) in operative group had malunion and two patients (4.4%) in spica group compared none in operative group had delayed union. Conclusions: Results of TEN turned out to be far superior to traction and spica cast treatment in paediatric femoral fractures. Rate of complications was far low with operative than conservative Treatment

Exploitation of IAA Producing PGPR on mustard (Brassica nigra L.) seedling growth under cadmium stress condition in comparison with exogenous IAA application

Soil pollution by cadmium (Cd) is a global threat for plants and animals. Exogenous auxin application reduces the Cd stress on plants. Moreover, IAA production by rhizospheric bacteria can play a key role in plant growth and development by promoting cell division, cell elongation, cell differentiation, flowering and lateral root formation. The present study was to evaluate the efficiency of IAA producing, Cd tolerant plant growth promoting rhizobacteria for plant (Brassica nigra L.) growth under Cd stressed condition comparing with the external synthetic auxin application. Lysinibacillus varians and Pseudomonas putida were isolated previously as IAA producing PGPR and selected in this study for their exploitation in plant growth development under Cd stressed condition. The impact of external synthetic IAA application significantly increased the plant growth under Cd amended soil. Whereas, PGPR inoculation also showed significant (p<0.05) elevation in germination percentage, root and shoot length, chlorophyll content and other growth parameters of Cd stressed Brassica plants which were comparative to synthetic IAA application. So, these selected PGPRs (L. varians and P. putida) can be used as biofertilizer which ameliorate the adverse effect of cadmium
