Banded spatiotemporal chaos in sheared nematogenic fluids
We present the results of a numerical study of a model of the hydrodynamics
of a sheared nematogenic fluid, taking into account the effects of order
parameter stresses on the velocity profile, but allowing spatial variations
only in the gradient direction. When parameter values are such that the stress
from orientational distortions is comparable to the bare viscous stress, the
system exhibits steady states with the characteristics of shear banding. In
addition, nonlinearity in the coupling of extensional flow to orientation leads
to the appearance of a new steady state in which the features of both
spatiotemporal chaos and shear banding are present.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures.(Some of the figures have low resolution so as to

Site-Specific Colloidal Crystal Nucleation by Template-enhanced Particle Transport
The monomer surface mobility is the single most important parameter that
decides the nucleation density and morphology of islands during thin film
growth. During template-assisted surface growth in particular, low surface
mobilities can prevent monomers from reaching target sites and this results in
a partial to complete loss of nucleation control. While in atomic systems a
broad range of surface mobilities can be readily accessed, for colloids, owing
to their large size, this window is substantially narrow and therefore imposes
severe restrictions in extending template-assisted growth techniques to steer
their self-assembly. Here, we circumvented this fundamental limitation by
designing templates with spatially varying feature sizes, in this case moire
patterns, which in the presence of short-range depletion attraction presented
surface energy gradients for the diffusing colloids. The templates serve a dual
purpose, first, directing the particles to target sites by enhancing their
surface mean free paths and second, dictating the size and symmetry of the
growing crystallites. Using optical microscopy, we directly followed the
nucleation and growth kinetics of colloidal islands on these surfaces at the
single-particle level. We demonstrate nucleation control, with high fidelity,
in a regime that has remained unaccessed in theoretical, numerical and
experimental studies on atoms and molecules as well. Our findings pave the way
for fabricating non-trivial surface architectures composed of complex colloids

Predatory Value: Economies of Dispossession and Disturbed Relationalities
This essay introduces and theorizes the central concerns of this special issue, “Economies of Dispossession: Indigeneity, Race, Capitalism.” Financialization, debt, and the accelerated concentration of wealth today work through social relations already configured and disposed by imperial conquest and racial capitalism. In the Americas broadly and the United States specifically, colonization and transatlantic slavery set in motion the dynamics and differential racialized valuations that continue to underwrite particular forms of subjection, property, commerce, and territoriality. The conception of economies of dispossession introduced in this essay draws attention to the overriding importance of rationalities of abstraction and commensurability for racial capitalism. The essay problematizes the ways in which dispossession is conventionally treated as a self-evident and circumscribed practice of unjust taking and subtractive action. Instead, working across the lethal confluences of imperial conquest and racial capitalist predation, this essay critically situates the logic of propriation that organizes and underwrites predatory value in the historical present. Against the commensurabilities and rationalities of debt and finance capitalism, conditioned through the proprietary logics of settler colonialism and racial capitalism, the essay gestures toward alternative frameworks for building collective capacities for what the authors describe as a grounded relationality
OBGP based QoS analysis for optical virtual private network connection setup
In a computer network, clients work with different applications; hence there are requirement of speed, bandwidth, delay etc. The parameters are called as Quality of Service (QoS) parameters. QoS guarantees the performance in a network. To meet the growing demand of Optical Virtual Private Network (OVPN), the Internet Service Providers (ISP) should use multiple techniques which ensure the Quality of Service. For performing data communication between nodes in a network the path to be followed should be known. In this project, BGP/OBGP protocols have been discussed and using this protocol, paths have been found between routers. Then the optimal path is found out based on the path attributes. Also the paths are examined for QoS parameters and the best path is chosen. An OVPN model has been discussed and modified for performing Routing & Wavelength Assignment (RWA) function based on QoS requirement which is expressed in terms of Q-factor and trying to achieve minimum blocking probability of path. The objective of this project is to assign best connection between nodes as per the request from clients operating with various applications

Equilibrium glassy phase in a polydisperse hard sphere system
The phase diagram of a polydisperse hard sphere system is examined by
numerical minimization of a discretized form of the Ramakrishnan-Yussouff free
energy functional. Crystalline and glassy local minima of the free energy are
located and the phase diagram in the density-polydispersity plane is mapped out
by comparing the free energies of different local minima. The crystalline phase
disappears and the glass becomes the equilibrium phase beyond a "terminal"
value of the polydispersity. A crystal to glass transition is also observed as
the density is increased at high polydispersity. The phase diagram obtained in
our study is qualitatively similar to that of hard spheres in a quenched random
