Two Higgs doublet models for the LHC Higgs boson data at 7 and 8 TeV
Updated LHC data on the new 126 GeV boson during the 7 and 8 TeV runnings
strengthen the standard model Higgs boson interpretation further. Through the
global analysis, we investigate whether the new particle could be one
of the scalar particles in two Higgs doublet models. Four types (Type I, II, X
and Y) are comprehensively studied. Taking the recent analysis on the
spin-parity of the new boson, we consider two scenarios: the new boson is
either the light CP-even one () or the heavy CP-even one (). It is
found that both scenarios are consistent with the new data, not only in the
parameter regions near the decoupling limit but also in other regions far from
the decoupling limit. In addition, the current data are compatible with the
possibility that the light Higgs boson is hidden in the mass window of
90-100 GeV. The diphoton or channel can provide a probe of this
possibility by the enhanced signal rates.Comment: To appear in JHE
Antinociceptive and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Ethanolic Extracts of Glycine max (L.) Merr and Rhynchosia nulubilis Seeds
The aim of this study was to assess the in vivo potential of ethanolic extracts of Glycine max (L.) Merr. (SoRiTae) and Rhynchosia nulubilis (Yak-Kong) seeds as natural anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory agents. To assess the anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory potential, the ethanolic extracts of SoRiTae and Yak-Kong seeds were tested in arachidonic acid-induced ear edema, carrageenan induced paw edema, formalin-induced licking time, acetic acid induced writhing and hot plate-induced thermal stimulation in mice. The administration of ethanolic extracts of SoRiTae and Yak-Kong seeds evoked a significant effect of anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities as compared to standards aminopyrine and indomethacin. The ear edema, paw edema, paw licking time, pain and writhes in mice were significantly reduced (p < 0.05) as compared to the control. The results obtained in this study indicate that both SoRiTae and Yak-Kong soybeans possesses potential anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities
Od pukog urbaniteta do urbanih bioetiÄkih standarda: poziv na Å”irenje bioetike
An interest in research, deliberation, and reflection on urbanity has been present for a long
time. Due to rapid urbanisation in the last few decades, such interest has intensified, attracting
scholars from different disciplines and creating new platforms for discussion.
The first indicators of a ābioethicalā interest in urban life are already present in Van Rensselaer
Potterās early papers (urban ethics. However, more extensive research into urban bioethics
remained on hold until recently, mainly due to the dominance of the biomedical paradigm
within modern mainstream bioethics.
In 2017, the European Bioethics in Action project (funded by the Croatian Science
Foundation) ended, resulting in a list of general bioethical standards related to animals,
plants, and human health. The aim of this paper is to present the rationale for developing
bioethical standards in a specific urban context.Interes za istraživanje, promiÅ”ljanje i promiÅ”ljanje urbanosti veÄ je duže vrijeme prisutan.
Posljednjih nekoliko desetljeÄa, zbog rapidne urbanizacije, taj se interes dodatno intenzivirao,
privlaÄeÄi znanstvenike razliÄitih disciplina i stvarajuÄi nove platforme rasprave. Prvi
pokazatelji ābioetiÄkogā interesa za urbani život prisutni su veÄ u ranim radovima Van
Rensselaera Pottera (urbana etika), no iscrpnija istraživanja urbane bioetike sve su donedavno
i zdravlju ljudi. NadovezujuÄi se na spomenuto, cilj ovog rada je razrada uporiÅ”ta za razvoj
bioetiÄkih standarda u specifiÄnom urbanom kontekstu
Multislice Bā Mapping Method Using Magnetic Resonance Composite Spin Echo Sequences and Simultaneous Echo Refocusing
Radiofrequency (RF) transmit field (B1) mapping is a promising method in mitigating the B1 inhomogeneity in various magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications. Although several phase- or magnitude-based B1 mapping methods have been proposed, these methods often require complex modeling, long acquisition time, or specialized MRI sequences. A recently introduced simultaneous echo refocusing (SER) technique can be applied in the B1 mapping method to extend the three-dimensional (3D) spatial coverage only without long data acquisition. Therefore, in this study, a multislice B1 mapping method using composite spin echo sequences and SER techniques is proposed to obtain more accurate B1 mapping with short data acquisition time. To evaluate the performance of the proposed B1 mapping method, computational simulations were performed and compared with Morrellās method, double angle method, and Yarnykhās method. These results showed that the angle-to-noise ratio of the proposed B1 mapping method has wider B1 range compared to that of other B1 mapping methods. In addition, the proposed B1 mapping methods were compared to the multislice iterative signal intensity mapping method in both phantom and in vivo human experiments, and there was no remarkable difference between the two methods regarding the flip angle distribution in these experiments. Based on these results, this study demonstrated that the proposed B1 mapping method is suitable for accurately measuring B1 propagation under the condition providing reduced scan time and wider 3D coverage of B1 mapping by applying composite RF pulse and SER techniques into the phase-sensitive method
Reverse First-mover and Second-mover Advantage in a Vertical Structure
This paper examines the issue of the first-mover and second-mover advantage in a vertical structure in which each manufacturer trades with a separated retailer via two-part tariffs. Compared to the canonical result in one-tier market, we find that the manufacturers' preference orderings over sequential versus simultaneous play are reversed in a vertical structure. We show that the Stackelberg leader (Stackelberg follower) had the first (second)-mover advantage in the downstream Cournot (Bertrand) competition. The first (second)-mover advantage compels its manufacturer to set the wholesale price higher than that of rival. Finally, we show that the manufacturer in which its retailer moves second (first) in a downstream Stackelberg Cournot (Bertrand) competition earns higher profits than the other in which its retailer moves first (second) in a downstream Stackelberg Cournot (Bertrand) competition
