    Perturbative Chern-Simons Theory From The Penner Model

    We show explicitly that the perturbative SU(N) Chern-Simons theory arises naturally from two Penner models, with opposite coupling constants. As a result computations in the perturbative Chern-Simons theory are carried out using the Penner model, and it turns out to be simpler and transparent. It is also shown that the connected correlators of the puncture operator in the Penner model, are related to the connected correlators of the operator that gives the Wilson loop operator in the conjugacy class.Comment: 7 Pages, Published Versio

    This study originated from the observation and experience of researcher\u27s friend while conducting industrial practice in Hotel Rocky Plaza Padang, that customer dissatisfaction with service quality front office employees in serving customers, such as slow response to the guests who will check-in and check-out, Customers have complained that the rooms booked was not in accordance with their wishes, as well as errors in the connecting line from the outside by phone parts provider and also the problem of lack of alacrity bellboy when guests need. Based on the above issues, this study aims to: 1) Describe the service quality front office employees Hotel Rocky Plaza Padang, 2) Describe guest satisfaction of Hotel Rocky Plaza Padang, and 3) To analyze the relationship between service quality front office employees with customer satisfaction in Hotel Rocky Plaza Padang.This type of research is classified to the correlational research. The population in this studied were all customers in stay or has been stayed in Hotel Rocky Plaza Padang. These samples included 98 customers who are staying at the Rocky Plaza Hotel in Padang during the study period with the sampling technique is incidental sampling. Data was collected using a questionnaire by using a Likert scale that has been tested for validity and reliability. Furthermore, the data were analyzed through descriptive analysis and correlation with the help of computer program SPSS version 17.00.The research found that: 1) Quality of Service Front Office located at the bad category (35%), 2) Customer satisfaction is In Category enough (40%), 3) test results Corelasi Product Moment with a significance level of 0.05, there is a relationship which positive and significant relationship between Service Quality Customer Satisfaction Front office with the r value of 0.479 (sig 0,000)

    Kondisi Telur pada Berbagai Bagian Cabang Karang Acropora Nobilis

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi telur menurut tingkat perkembangannya, rataan jumlah telur per polip dan proporsi polip yang reproduktif pada berbagai bagian cabang karang A. nobilis. Sebanyak 10 koloni A. nobilis yang berdiameter > 15 cm diambil contohnya secara acak di bagian barat laut perairan terumbu karang Pulau Barrang Lompo, Kepulauan Spermonde, Makassar pada tanggal 27 Januari 2002 (satu hari sebelum bulan purnama). Polip dari tiga bagian cabang (apikal, tengah dan basal) diperiksa jumlah telur yang dikandungnya secara histologis. Terdapat interaksi antara pertumbuhan dan reproduksi terhadap alokasi sumber daya pada berbagai bagian koloni karang. Alokasi sumber daya terhadap fungsi biologi tertentu akan mengorbankan fungsi biologi lainnya. Pertumbuhan karang yang terlokalisasi pada bagian tertentu suatu koloni karang berhubungan dengan rendahnya aktivitas reproduksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang nyata (p < 0.001) distribusi telur menurut tingkat perkembangannya pada berbagai bagian cabang karang. Bagian tengah cabang memiliki proporsi polip karang yang berkaitan dengan lokasi energi untuk pertumbuhan yang lebih reproduktif (100%) dengan kandungan rataan jumlah telur yang lebih tinggi (5.22 butir/potongan polip) dibanding bagian apikal dan basal cabang

    A Remark on the Renormalization Group Equation for the Penner Model

    It is possible to extract values for critical couplings and gamma_string in matrix models by deriving a renormalization group equation for the variation of the of the free energy as the size N of the matrices in the theory is varied. In this paper we derive a ``renormalization group equation'' for the Penner model by direct differentiation of the partition function and show that it reproduces the correct values of the critical coupling and gamma_string and is consistent with the logarithmic corrections present for g=0,1.Comment: LaTeX, 5 pages, LPTHE-Orsay-94-5

    Mathematically gifted and talented learners: Theory and practice

This article reviews policy developments and current research and theory on giftedness in mathematics. It includes a discussion of the nature of mathematical ability as well as the factors that make up giftedness in mathematics. The article is set in the context of current developments in Mathematics Education and Gifted Education in the UK and their implications for Science and Technology. It argues that early identification and appropriate provision for younger mathematically promising pupils capitalizes on an intellectual resource which could provide future mathematicans as well as specialists in Science or Technology. Drawing on a Vygotskian framework, it is suggested that the mathematically gifted require appropriate cognitive challenges as well as attitudinally and motivationally enhancing experiences. In the second half of this article we report on an initiative in which we worked with teachers to identify mathematically gifted pupils and to provide effective enrichment support for them, in a number of London Local Authorities. A number of significant issues are raised relating to the identification of mathematical talent, enrichment provision for students and teachers’ professional development
