The GUT Scale and Superpartner Masses from Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

    Get PDF
We consider models of anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking (AMSB) in which the grand unification (GUT) scale is determined by the vacuum expectation value of a chiral superfield. If the anomaly-mediated contributions to the potential are balanced by gravitational-strength interactions, we find a model-independent prediction for the GUT scale of order MPlanck/(16π2)M_{\rm Planck} / (16\pi^2). The GUT threshold also affects superpartner masses, and can easily give rise to realistic predictions if the GUT gauge group is asymptotically free. We give an explicit example of a model with these features, in which the doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved. The resulting superpartner spectrum is very different from that of previously considered AMSB models, with gaugino masses typically unifying at the GUT scale.Comment: 17 page

    Prospects for Mirage Mediation

    Get PDF
Mirage mediation reduces the fine-tuning in the minimal supersymmetric standard model by dynamically arranging a cancellation between anomaly-mediated and modulus-mediated supersymmetry breaking. We explore the conditions under which a mirage "messenger scale" is generated near the weak scale and the little hierarchy problem is solved. We do this by explicitly including the dynamics of the SUSY-breaking sector needed to cancel the cosmological constant. The most plausible scenario for generating a low mirage scale does not readily admit an extra-dimensional interpretation. We also review the possibilities for solving the mu/Bmu problem in such theories, a potential hidden source of fine-tuning.Comment: 14 page

Physiological studies on dormancy in grape seeds (Vitis vinifera) 1. On the naturally occurring growth substances in grape seeds and their changes during low temperature after ripening

    Get PDF
In order to understand the hormonal factors affecting dormancy in grape seeds, studies were conducted on the endogenous auxins, inhibitcrs and gibberellin-like substances in the seeds stored moist at 5° C and at room temperature .The results show that moist after-ripening at 5° C resulted in an increase in the amount of growth promoting substances similar to auxins, in the extracts of chilled seeds. No correlation was observed between the content of inhibitor and dormancy in grape seeds. The extracts of neither chilled nor non-chilled seeds showed the presence of gibberellin-like substances when tested on D5 dwarf maize mutant plants. In the light of these findings, it is proposed that an increased synthesis of growth promoting substances during stratification may be one of the factors responsible for the termination of dormancy and resumption of germination of grape seeds

New contribution to dimension five operators on proton decay in anomaly mediation scenario

In supergravity, effective superpotential relevant to dimension five operators on proton decay processes also leads to supersymmetry breaking terms among sfermions, dimension four operators. These dimension four operators induce the dimension five operators through 1-loop diagrams dressed by gauginos. We find that, in a class of models with the anomaly mediation, the 1-loop contributions can be comparable to those at the tree level. Therefore, such operators have a great impact on proton decay rate. Depending on a universal phase of gaugino masses and soft mass spectrum, the proton decay rate can be enhanced or suppressed.Comment: 8 pages, no figure. A few minor changes have been mad

Pair production of charged Higgs bosons in the Left-Right Twin Higgs model at the ILC and LHC

Left-Right twin Higgs(LRTH) model predicts the existence of a pair of charged Higgs ϕ±\phi^{\pm}. In this paper, we study the production of the charged Higgs bosons pair ϕ±\phi^{\pm} via the process e+eϕ+ϕe^{+}e^{-}\to \phi^{+}\phi^{-} at the International Linear Collider(ILC). The numerical results show that the production rates are at the level of several tens fb, this process can produce the adequate distinct multi-jet final states and the SM background can be efficiently reduced. We also discuss the charged Higgs boson pair production via the process qqˉϕ+ϕq\bar{q}\to \phi^{+}\phi^{-} at the CERNCERN Large Hadron Collider(LHC) and estimate there production rates. We find that, as long as the charged Higgs bosons are not too heavy, they can be abundantly produced at the LHC. The possible signatures of these new particles might be detected at the ILC and LHC experiments.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, discussion extended, reference added, typos fixed, revised version to be published in Eur.Phys.J.

Supersymmetry breaking in a warped slice with Majorana-type masses

    Get PDF
We study the five-dimensional (5D) supergravity compactified on an orbifold S^1/Z_2, where the U(1)_R symmetry is gauged by the graviphoton with Z_2-even coupling. In contrast to the case of gauging with Z_2-odd coupling, this class of models has Majorana-type masses and allows the Scherk-Schwarz (SS) twist even in the warped spacetime. Starting from the off-shell formulation, we show that the supersymmetry is always broken in an orbifold slice of AdS_5, irrespective of the value of the SS twist parameter. We analyze the spectra of gaugino and gravitino in such background, and find the SS twist can provide sizable effects on them in the small warping region.Comment: 1+20 pages, 6 figure

    Partly Supersymmetric Grand Unification

It is shown how grand unification can occur in models which are partly supersymmetric. The particle states which are composite do not contribute to the running of gauge couplings above the compositeness scale, while the elementary states contribute the usual large logarithmns. This introduces a new differential running contribution to the gauge couplings from partly composite SU(5) matter multiplets. In particular, for partly supersymmetric models, the incomplete SU(5) elementary matter multiplets restore gauge coupling unification even though the usual elementary gaugino and Higgsino contributions need not be present.Comment: 14 pages, LaTe

Anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking and its test in linear colliders

Signatures of anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking in linear colliders are briefly reviewed after presenting an outline of the theoretical framework. A unique and distinct feature of a large class of models of this type is a winolike chargino which is very closely degenerate in mass with the lightest neutralino. The very slow decay of this chargino results in a heavily ionizing charged track and one soft charged pion with a characteristic momentum distribution, leading to unique signals in linear colliders which are essentially free of background. The determination of chargino and slepton masses from such events is a distinctly interesting possibility.Comment: 15 pages, LaTex, 4 PS figures, ws-mpla.cls file included. One reference added. Yukawa Deflected Gauge Mediation in Four Dimensions

    Get PDF
We construct a four dimensional realization of a higher dimensional model, Yukawa deflected gauge mediation, in which supersymmetry breaking is communicated to the visible sector through both gauge and Yukawa interactions. The reduction to four dimensions is achieved by `deconstructing' or `latticizing' the extra dimension. Three sites (gauge groups) are sufficient to reproduce the spectrum of the higher dimensional model. The characteristic features of Yukawa deflected gauge mediation, in particular, alignment of squarks and quarks, and a natural solution to the mu problem, carry over to the deconstructed version of the model. We comment on the implications of our results for a solution of the mu problem in the context of deconstructed gaugino mediation.Comment: 11 pages, 1figur
