    Physical optics analysis of a four-reflector antenna, part 1

    Concern has been raised for the 64-m to 70-m antenna upgrade project that the 70-m system may experience greater S-band beam-pointing perturbations than the 64-m system. The S-band perturbations are due to minor (higher order) mode generation, causing subtle cross-polarization fields affecting beam pointing direction, as described herein. For the antennas in their present configuration (64 m), a slight S-band gain degradation of about 0.05 dB can be attributed to these effects. Therefore, a full physical optics analysis was performed for the present-day 64-m system, as described herein. The results were compared with past analyses and experimental observations in order to verify the algebra and computer code with the intent of deriving a valid analysis method for accurately analyzing the 70-m shaped dual reflector Cassegrainian antenna. The results of the new analysis appear to be in excellent agreement with previous analyses and experimental data

    A new analysis of beam-waveguide antennas considering the presence of the enclosure

    Beam-waveguide (BWG) antennas provide multiple frequency band operations and other operational benefits for large ground-station antennas. Present design practices use diffraction analyses that ignore the presence of the BWG enclosure and may be inaccurate at lower frequency bands for ground-station antennas operating over multiple frequency bands. Introduced here is a new analysis approach that considers the presence of the BWG enclosure. Results based on the new analysis have revealed new understandings of the performance degradation mechanisms in a BWG antenna and have provided direction for potential design improvements

    Gain, phase and frequency stability of DSS-42 and DSS-43 vor Voyage Uranus encounter

    Theoretically rigorous definitions are derived of such parameters as RF signal path length, phase delay, and phase/frequency stability in a Cassegrainian antenna applicable to a narrow bandwidth channel, as well as algorithms for evaluating these parameters. This work was performed in support of the Voyager spacecraft encounter with Uranus in January 1986. The information was needed to provide Voyager/Uranus radio science researchers with a rotational basis for deciding the best strategy to operate the three antennas involved during the crucial 5-hour occultation period of the encounter.     The Field-Tuned Superconductor-Insulator Transition with and without Current Bias

    The magnetic-field-tuned superconductor-insulator transition has been studied in ultrathin Beryllium films quench-condensed near 20 K. In the zero-current limit, a finite-size scaling analysis yields the scaling exponent product vz = 1.35 +/- 0.10 and a critical sheet resistance R_{c} of about 1.2R_{Q}, with R_{Q} = h/4e^{2}. However, in the presence of dc bias currents that are smaller than the zero-field critical currents, vz becomes 0.75 +/- 0.10. This new set of exponents suggests that the field-tuned transitions with and without dc bias currents belong to different universality classes.Comment: RevTex 4 pages, 4 figures, and 1 table minor change

    Phase Transitions in the Two-Dimensional XY Model with Random Phases: a Monte Carlo Study

    We study the two-dimensional XY model with quenched random phases by Monte Carlo simulation and finite-size scaling analysis. We determine the phase diagram of the model and study its critical behavior as a function of disorder and temperature. If the strength of the randomness is less than a critical value, σc\sigma_{c}, the system has a Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) phase transition from the paramagnetic phase to a state with quasi-long-range order. Our data suggest that the latter exists down to T=0 in contradiction with theories that predict the appearance of a low-temperature reentrant phase. At the critical disorder TKT→0T_{KT}\rightarrow 0 and for σ>σc\sigma > \sigma_{c} there is no quasi-ordered phase. At zero temperature there is a phase transition between two different glassy states at σc\sigma_{c}. The functional dependence of the correlation length on σ\sigma suggests that this transition corresponds to the disorder-driven unbinding of vortex pairs.Comment: LaTex file and 18 figure

    Adult content constitutes a major source of Internet traffic. As with many other platforms, these sites are incentivized to engage users and maintain them on the site. This engagement (e.g., through recommendations) shapes the journeys taken through such sites. Using data from a large content delivery network, we explore session journeys within an adult website. We take two perspectives. We first inspect the corpus available on these platforms. Following this, we investigate the session access patterns. We make a number of observations that could be exploited for optimizing delivery, e.g., that users often skip within video streams
