A microscopic study of the proton-neutron symmetry and phonon structure of the low-lying states in 92Zr
We studied in a microscopic multiphonon approach the proton-neutron symmetry
and phonon structure of some low-lying states recently discovered in 92Zr. We
confirm the breaking of F-spin symmetry, but argue that the breaking mechanism
is more complex than the one suggested in the original shell model analysis of
the data. We found other new intriguing features of the spectrum, like a
pronounced multiphonon fragmentation of the states and a tentative evidence of
a three-phonon mixed symmetry state.Comment: 13 pages, to appear in Phys. Rev.
How does the Smaller Alignment Index (SALI) distinguish order from chaos?
The ability of the Smaller Alignment Index (SALI) to distinguish chaotic from
ordered motion, has been demonstrated recently in several
publications.\cite{Sk01,GRACM} Basically it is observed that in chaotic regions
the SALI goes to zero very rapidly, while it fluctuates around a nonzero value
in ordered regions. In this paper, we make a first step forward explaining
these results by studying in detail the evolution of small deviations from
regular orbits lying on the invariant tori of an {\bf integrable} 2D
Hamiltonian system. We show that, in general, any two initial deviation vectors
will eventually fall on the ``tangent space'' of the torus, pointing in
different directions due to the different dynamics of the 2 integrals of
motion, which means that the SALI (or the smaller angle between these vectors)
will oscillate away from zero for all time.Comment: To appear in Progress of Theoretical Physics Supplemen
Dynamic electromagnetic response of three-dimensional Josephson junction arrays
We present a theoretical study on the dynamical properties of
three-dimensional arrays of Josephson junctions. Our results indicate that such
superconducting networks represent highly sensitive 3D-SQUIDs having some major
advantages in comparison with conventional planar SQUIDs. The voltage response
function of 3D-SQUIDs is directly related to the vector-character of external
electromagnetic fields. The theory developed here allows the three-dimensional
reconstruction of a detected external field including phase information about
the field variables. Applications include the design of novel magnetometers,
gradiometers and particle detectors.Comment: 5 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Journal of Applied Physic
Quantum techniques using continuous variables of light
We present schemes for the generation and evaluation of continuous variable
entanglement of bright optical beams and give a brief overview of the variety
of optical techniques and quantum communication applications on this basis. A
new entanglement-based quantum interferometry scheme with bright beams is
suggested. The performance of the presented schemes is independent of the
relative interference phase which is advantageous for quantum communication
applications.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figures; minor correction, accepted versio
