DANCE AND CHOREOGRAPHY COMPETENCE OF UNIVERSITY PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS

    Get PDF
The research determined the Physical Education (PE) Teachers’ dance and choreography competence among government owned higher education institutions (HEIs) in Eastern Visayas Region, Philippines. These competences include subject matter, pedagogy, assessment, guidance, classroom management for dance competence, dance techniques, leadership, creativity and discipline on choreography competence. The study also examined the degree of association between the level of dance and choreography competences among PE Teachers, and investigated the problems encountered by the PE Teachers in doing dance choreography. A descriptive survey research design was used as the main data gathering tool. A Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was also conducted to triangulate the validity and reliability of the generated information. The study was implemented in ten HEIs with forty university PE Teachers as research respondents. Findings revealed that PE Teachers in the study area are very competent in dance. They know what they are teaching, know how to teach, evaluate, guide students and has classroom management. The same hold true for PE Teachers dance choreography competence. They can discipline their students and know the dance technique of the dance type they teach. They possess the knowledge and the skills along the courses they teach. The finding also indicated a significant direct relationship between dance and choreography competences among tertiary PE Teachers. The most common problem encountered by PE Teachers in doing choreography is on the attitude of the dancers while least common problem pertains to the age of the students where older students are hesitant than the younger ones when told to perform. Notwithstanding the various encountered problems, PE Teachers are still very competent and resourceful with lots of initiatives on how to deliver their tasks in teaching dance choreography. They possess love and passion toward their jobs and willing to pursue what needs to be accomplished.  Article visualizations

Temperature and pressure dependence of the infrared spectrum of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ionic liquid

The infrared absorption spectrumof 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazoliumtrifluoromethanesulfonate (EMI-TfO) was investigated at ambient pressure and variable temperatures between 120 and 330 K, or at roomtemperature and variable pressures up to 10 GPa. Upon cooling, the ionic liquid crystallizes; on the contrary, upon compression no evidence of crystallization can be obtained from the infrared spectra. Moreover, Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations were applied to gain a better description of the ionic couple. The !B97X-D functional, including not only the empirical dispersion corrections but also the presence of a polar solvent, gives a good agreement with the infrared spectrum and suggests that TfO resides above the plane of the imidazolium, with the shorter distance between the O atom of the anion and the C2 atom of the imidazolium ring equal to 2.23 A

Fil: Bisogno, Gianina F. Impact of a Mentoring Program on Occupational Stress, Personal Strain, and Coping Resources of Newly Appointed U.S. Magistrate Judges

viii, 125 leaves. Advisor: Thomas WestbrookProblem. Judges experience occupational stress that manifests itself in physical and mental strain. Stress can be reduced by actual or perceived social support, such as mentoring. Procedures. Using a quasi-experimental design, this research investigated the results of a project that offered paired mentoring to newly appointed United States Magistrate Judges for a five-month period as part of their orientation program by the Federal Judicial Center. Judges in the experimental group (n=20) were mentored by six experienced judges who received training in social support mentoring. The comparison group (n=17) was not offered mentoring. The mentoring program consisted of regular contact and discussions on suggested topics, including concerns raised by the new judges. Osipow's Occupational Stress Inventory-Revised was used as a pre-treatment and post-treatment measure. Noe's Mentoring Function Scale was used to demonstrate that social support mentoring was received. Findings. The trends in scores for the experimental group were primarily downward in the areas of stress and strain, and upward in coping skills. Compared to male judges, female judges in both the experimental and comparison groups reported significantly higher levels of stress and strain in several domains, accompanied by significantly lower levels of coping skills. Conclusions. This study supports social support mentoring as an addition to traditional judicial orientation skill-building programs. Recommendations. Future studies should examine different types of mentoring, the different levels of stress reported by male and female judges, and the impact of the program on mentors

Solubility of Ethene in Water and in a Medium for the Cultivation of a Bacterial Strain

The solubility of ethene in water and in the fermentation medium of Xanthobacter Py(2) was determined with a Ben-Naim-Baer type apparatus. The solubility measurements were carried out in the temperature range of (293.15 to 323.15) K and at atmospheric pressure with a precision of about +/- 0.3 %. The Ostwald coefficients, the mole fractions of the dissolved ethene, at the gas partial pressure of 101.325 kPa, and the Henry coefficients, at the water vapor pressure, were calculated using accurate thermodynamic relations. A comparison between the solubility of ethene in water and in the cultivation medium has shown that this gas is about 2.4 % more soluble in pure water. On the other hand, from the solubility temperature dependence, the Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy changes for the process of transferring the solute from the gaseous phase to the liquid solutions were also determined. Moreover, the perturbed-chain statistical associating fluid theory equation of state (PC-SAFT EOS) model was used for the prediction of the solubility of ethene in water. New parameters, k(ij), are proposed for this system, and it was found that using a ky temperature-dependent PC-SAFT EOS describes more accurately the behavior solubilities of ethene in water at 101.325 kPa, improving the deviations to 1 %
