Students’ challenges in english spoken communication on the ba in foreign languages teaching

Este estudio investigó los retos relacionados con inglés hablado, enfrentados por estudiantes en una universidad privada. Para esto, 8 participantes fueron elegidos, todos estudiantes activos del octavo semestre. Se llevaron a cabo entrevistas y cuestionarios, en los que los participantes pudieron describir los retos que cada uno de ellos ha enfrentado en inglés hablado, ya sea en términos de pronunciación o ítems lingüísticos. Este estudio exploratorio está encuadrado bajo el diseño de la metodología cualitativa y sistematización de experiencias. Adicionalmente, los resultados de este estudio revelan que los participantes han enfrentado muchos retos en Inglés hablado, siendo la mayoría relacionados con la pronunciación y expresarse en público. Lo que mayormente se relaciona con factores de presión social e incluso inseguridades personales. Sin embargo la mayoría de participantes nos contó sobre cómo han sido capaces de superar estos retos, y de hecho ya lo hicieron.This study investigated the challenges faced by students regarding spoken English at a private university. For this, 8 participants were selected, all students in training from the eighth semester. Interviews and questionnaires were carried out, the ones in which the participants could share the challenges that each one of them has faced in spoken English, either in terms of pronunciation or linguistic items. This exploratory study is framed within a methodology of qualitative design and systematization of experiences. Additionally, the results of the study reveal that the participants have faced many challenges in spoken English, most of all them regarding pronunciation and in terms of expressing themselves publicly. Which mostly relates to social pressure factors and even personal insecurities.
