A contribuição da coordenação pedagógica na escola de Medicina

No full text

Assessment of mycotoxins co-occurrence in Italian dried figs and in dried figs-based products

The possible contamination by aflatoxins (AFs), ochratoxin A (OTA), fumonisin B1(FB1), fusaric acid (FA), and beauvericin (BEA), was investigated in 55 samples of dried figs and dried figs-based products purchased from the South Italy (Calabria) market. A total of 41 samples showed contamination by at least one of the mycotoxins investigated. Aflatoxin B1was found in six samples (0.19 — 8.41 μg/kg) total aflatoxins were found in 13 samples (0.5–17.12 μg/kg), OTA was found in 21 samples

Evaluating the Efficacy of Eravacycline and Omadacycline against Extensively Drug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii Patient Isolates

For decades, the spread of multidrug-resistant (MDR) Acinetobacter baumannii has been rampant in critically ill, hospitalized patients. Traditional antibiotic therapies against this pathogen have been failing, leading to rising concerns over management options for patients. Two new antibiotics, eravacycline and omadacycline, were introduced to the market and have shown promising results in the treatment of Gram-negative infections. Since these drugs are newly available, there is limited in vitro data about their effectiveness against MDR A. baumannii or even susceptible strains. Here, we examined the effectiveness of 22 standard-of-care antibiotics, eravacycline, and omadacycline against susceptible and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) A. baumannii patient isolates from Cooper University Hospital. Furthermore, we examined selected combinations of eravacycline or omadacycline with other antibiotics against an XDR strain. We demonstrated that this collection of strains is largely resistant to monotherapies of carbapenems, fluoroquinolones, folate pathway antagonists, cephalosporins, and most tetracyclines. While clinical breakpoint data are not available for eravacycline or omadacycline, based on minimum inhibitory concentrations, eravacycline was highly effective against these strains. The aminoglycoside amikacin alone and in combination with eravacycline or omadacycline yielded the most promising results. Our comprehensive characterization offers direction in the treatment of this deadly infection in hospitalized patients

Genotype and chemotype profile analysis of Tropea red onion (Allium cepa)

Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) genomic analyses and chemical composition have been applied to the identification and authentication of Tropea Red onion, a typical italian product with Protected Geographical Indication. Amplification of genomic DNA using 60 random primers highlighted a good clustering differentiating Tropea Red onion from three commercial reference samples used in our study (Saratoga, a yellow onion; Crystal, a white onion; Primula Rossa, a red variety), underlining the existence of intervarietal genetic difference. The antioxidant properties of onions was also investigated. Antioxidant capacity, assessed by three different methods (DPPH, ABTS and photochemiluminescence both with ACL and ACW mode) showed a highest antioxidant activity of Primula Rossa. The antioxidant properties may be correlated to the large amount of polyphenols and flavonoids contained. The analysis of total phenolics content was performed by using the Folin Ciocalteu methods corroborated the same tends of antioxidant capacity. Quercetin and glucosides forms in onion varieties were characterized and quantified using high-performance liquid cromathography (HPLC) at 365 nm. On the basis of our results, flavonoid profiles seems to be variety specific, showing same differences between cultivars
