GASTROINTESTINAL PARASITES OF Iguana iguana LINNAEUS, 1758 (SQUAMATA: IGUANIDAE) OF THE URBAN AREA OF TERESINA, PIAUÍ, BRAZIL

Estudos sobre as relações parasito-hospedeiro são um dos fatores responsáveis para a compreensão das variações que ocorrem na dinâmica populacional das estruturas da comunidade de vertebrados. Infecções por parasitos influenciam o controle da população dos seus hospedeiros. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi identificar a fauna parasitária em Iguana-verde (Iguana iguana) da zona urbana em Teresina-PI. No total foram capturadas 15 iguanas, 06 na Avenida Maranhão e 09 nas regiões da UESPI. Foram encontrados ovos de oxiurídeos pelo método de Hoffmann e técnica de Willis-Mollay modificado. Os helmintos encontrados foram os oxiurídeos: Ozolaimus cirratus no intestino grosso e delgado das iguanas parasitadas e Ozolaimus megatyphlon somente no intestino grosso. Neste trabalho relatamos pela primeira vez a ocorrência do gênero Ozolaimus em iguanas piauienses. A Avenida Maranhão é um local altamente antropogênico, consequentemente altera o habitat nativo do animal, revelando a importância desses animais estarem em seu ambiente natural ou menos antropogênico.Palavras-chave: Répteis, Iguana iguana, helmintos, oxiurídeos, Ozolaimus.Studies on host-parasite relationships are one of the factors responsible for understanding the variations that occur in the population dynamics of vertebrate community structures. Infections by parasites influence the control of the population of their hosts. The objective of the present work was to identify the parasitic fauna in Iguana-verde (Iguana iguana) of the urban zone in Teresina-PI. In total, 15 iguanas were captured, 06 on Maranhão Avenue and 09 in the UESPI regions. Oxyurid eggs were found by the method of Hoffmann and modified Willis-Mollay technique. The helminths found were the oxyurids: Ozolaimus cirratus in the large and small intestine of the parasitized iguanas and Ozolaimus megatyphlon only in the large intestine. In this work we report for the first time the occurrence of the genus Ozolaimus in iguanas piauienses. Maranhão Avenue is a highly anthropogenic place, consequently alters the native habitat of the animal, revealing the importance of these animals in their natural or less anthropogenic environment.Keywords: Reptiles; Iguana iguana; helminths; oxyurids; Ozolaimus
