Fellini's Graphic Heritage

No full text
Federico Fellini was a cartoonist and comic artist well before becoming a film director. He retained a strong penchant for drawing during his career; he mostly expressed it by providing preliminary sketches for his films, caricatures for his friends, and self‐therapy for himself through the visual diary known as Il libro dei sogni. Fellini's drawings aroused the interest of many artists, who collaborated with him or produced works inspired by the visual legacy of the director. The essay describes and analyzes the graphic production by Fellini, his collaborators, and those inspired by him. The first part considers the early experiences of Fellini as a cartoonist (1937–1947); the second details his graphic phase dominated by Il libro dei sogni (1948–1993). The third section deals with comics and animated films inspired by Fellini; the referenced authors include Milo Manara, Giorgio Cavazzano, and Andrei Khrzhanovskii

Galectin-1 receptors in different cell types

No full text
Galectins are a family of animal lectins defined by two properties: shared amino acid sequences in their carbohydrate-recognizing domain, and β-galactoside affinity. A wide variety of biological phenomena are related to galectins, i.e., development, differentiation, morphogenesis, tumor metastasis, apoptosis, RNA splicing, and immunoregulatory function. In this review, we will focus on galectin-1 receptors, and some of the mechanisms by which this lectin affects different cell types. Several galectin-1 receptors are discussed such as CD45, CD7, CD43, CD2, CD3, CD4, CD107, CEA, actin, extracellular matrix proteins such as laminin and fibronectin, glycosaminoglycans, integrins, a β-lactosamine glycolipid, GM1 ganglioside, polypeptide HBGp82, glycoprotein 90 K/MAC-2BP, CA125 cancer antigen, and pre-B cell receptor.Facultad de Ciencias Exacta
