A Pet Robot Prototype for Interaction with Seniors

[Resumen] La robótica social aparece con el objetivo de interactuar con las personas, comprenderlas y apoyarlas con diferentes tareas, entre otras finalidades. En los últimos años, con el aumento de la esperanza de vida, el número de personas mayores con algún tipo de deterioro cognitivo ha aumentado. Además, muchas de estas personas se sienten solas y carecen de estimulación emocional. Diversos estudios confirman que la robótica social puede contribuir a aliviar este problema. El propósito de este trabajo es mostrar el desarrollo de un primer prototipo de robot mascota para realizar tareas, como el acompañamiento y la estimulación cognitiva, con personas mayores. Para ello se opta por una apariencia agradable que llame la atención y permita la integración de todos los elementos. El desarrollo del proyecto incluye la selección de todos los componentes hardware del robot, así como la implementación de una versión inicial de la arquitectura software que permita interactuar con los usuarios.[Abstract] Social robotics appears with the aim of interacting with people, understanding them and supporting them with different tasks, among other purposes. In recent years, with the increase in life expectancy, the number of elderly people with some kind of cognitive impairment has increased. In addition, many of these people feel lonely and lack emotional stimulation. Several studies confirm that social robotics can help alleviate this problem. The purpose of this work is to show the development of a first prototype of a pet robot to perform tasks, such as companionship and cognitive stimulation, with elderly people. For this purpose, a pleasant appearance that attracts attention and allows the integration of all the elements is chosen.
