Hole Transport in Impurity Band and Valence Bands Studied in Moderately Doped GaAs:Mn Single Crystals

We report on simple experiment on temperature-dependent Hall effect measurements in GaMnAs single crystalline samples with Mn composition estimated at 0.05-0.3 at.% which is slightly below the onset of ferromagnetism. Impurity band transport is visible for Mn compositions of ~0.3 at.% as a clear metallic behaviour. The results show interesting situation that the Metal-Insulator transition in GaAs:Mn occurs within the impurity band which is separated from the valence bands for Mn concentrations studied here. We also discuss on the equilibrium high temperature solubility limit of Mn in GaAs, unknown precisely in the literature.Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures, Proc. of 35th International School on the Physics of Semiconducting Compounds, Jaszowiec 2007, Poland, to appear in Acta Physica Polonica A (2007

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MARKET AREA DETERMINATION FOR ESTIMATING AGGREGATE BENEFITS OF PUBLIC GOODS: TESTING DIFFERENCES IN RESIDENT AND NONRESIDENT WILLINGNESS TO PAY

    Get PDF
A combined telephone contact-mail booklet-telephone interview of California and New England households regarding their willingness to pay for fire management in California and Oregon's old-growth forests was performed to test hypotheses regarding the spatial extent of the public goods market. Using a multiple-bounded contingent valuation question, the study found that New England households' annual willingness to pay for the California and Oregon programs was statistically different from zero. This analysis points out that households receive benefits from fire protection of old-growth forests in states other than their own. In this case study, limiting the survey sample to state residents where the National Forest is located would reflect about 20% of the national benefits. However, using resident values as a proxy for nonresidents would overstate the national benefits by 75%, since the values per household are significantly different. This finding suggests more emphasis in future surveys on selecting an institutionally and economically relevant sample frame rather than an expedient one.Consumer/Household Economics,

The Famished Road: Oil Dependency and Socioeconomic Underdevelopment in the Niger Delta

This thesis examines the social and political relationships between indigenous communities within the Nigerian Delta region and the Federal government regarding the management of petroleum resources and its implication for the general socioeconomic development of the Nigerian State. It investigates the correlation between the broader issues of sociocultural sovereignty, representation of ethnic minorities in the body politic and infrastructural development of the country. Furthermore, the thesis explores trends such as the development of native-led cultural institutions that foster the continuation of cultural praxis through the theoretical tropes of Globalization and Modernization

Puerto Rican Studies: Changing Islands of Knowledge

    Get PDF
This essay discusses the factors that help explain the paradox of Puerto Rican Studies; on one hand the sustained institutional resistance to the establishment of viable Puerto Rican Studies academic units, and on the other, the growing acceptance of Puerto Rican Studies scholarship as a viable contributor to multidisciplinary research and teaching. The essay reviews the context in which Puerto Rican Studies units were established and discusses the array of factors that curtailed their institutional development. It also traces the trajectory of Puerto Rican Studies scholarship. It summarizes the diverse research priorities and competing intellectual currents in the prevailing scholarship. During the last four decades Puerto Rican Studies scholarship has acquired a measure of academic legitimacy and in the process has generated productive scholarly engagements with other disciplines
