Charge and mass effects on the evaporation of higher-dimensional rotating black holes
To study the dynamics of discharge of a brane black hole in TeV gravity
scenarios, we obtain the approximate electromagnetic field due to the charged
black hole, by solving Maxwell's equations perturbatively on the brane. In
addition, arguments are given for brane metric corrections due to backreaction.
We couple brane scalar and brane fermion fields with non-zero mass and charge
to the background, and study the Hawking radiation process using well known low
energy approximations as well as a WKB approximation in the high energy limit.
We argue that contrary to common claims, the initial evaporation is not
dominated by fast Schwinger discharge.Comment: Published version. Minor typos corrected. 29 pages, 5 figure
The evolution of public health genomics: Exploring its past, present, and future
Public health genomics has evolved to responsibly integrate advancements in genomics into the fields of personalized medicine and public health. Appropriate, effective and sustainable integration of genomics into healthcare requires an organized approach. This paper outlines the history that led to the emergence of public health genomics as a distinguishable field. In addition, a range of activities are described that illustrate how genomics can be incorporated into public health practice. Finally, it presents the evolution of public health genomics into the new era of âprecision public health.
The quadratic spinor Lagrangian is equivalent to the teleparallel theory
The quadratic spinor Lagrangian is shown to be equivalent to the teleparallel
/ tetrad representation of Einstein's theory. An important consequence is that
the energy-momentum density obtained from this quadratic spinor Lagrangian is
essentially the same as the ``tensor'' proposed by Moller in 1961.Comment: 10 pages, RevTe
Braneworld Cosmology in (Anti)--de Sitter Einstein--Gauss--Bonnet--Maxwell Gravity
Braneworld cosmology for a domain wall embedded in the charged (Anti)-de
Sitter-Schwarzschildblack hole of the five--dimensional
Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell theory is considered. The effective Friedmann
equation for the brane is derived by introducing the necessary surface
counterterms required for a well-defined variational principlein the
Gauss--Bonnet theory and for the finiteness of the bulk space. The asymptotic
dynamics of the brane cosmology is determined and it is found that solutions
with vanishingly small spatial volume are unphysical. The finiteness of the
bulk action is related to the vanishing of the effective cosmological constant
on the brane. An analogy between the Friedmann equation and a generalized
Cardy--Verlinde formula is drawn.Comment: LaTex file 28 pages, typos corrected, one reference is adde
The Electric Dipole Form Factor of the Nucleon in Chiral Perturbation Theory to Sub-leading Order
The electric dipole form factor (EDFF) of the nucleon stemming from the QCD
theta term and from the quark color-electric dipole moments is calculated in
chiral perturbation theory to sub-leading order. This is the lowest order in
which the isoscalar EDFF receives a calculable, non-analytic contribution from
the pion cloud. In the case of the theta term, the expected lower bound on the
deuteron electric dipole moment is |d_d| > 1.4 10^(-4) \theta e fm. The
momentum dependence of the isovector EDFF is proportional to a non-derivative
time-reversal-violating pion-nucleon coupling, and the scale for momentum
variation ---appearing, in particular, in the radius of the form factor--- is
the pion mass.Comment: 14 pages, 3 figure
Greybody Factors for Rotating Black Holes on Codimension-2 Branes
We study the absorption probability and Hawking radiation of the scalar field
in the rotating black holes on codimension-2 branes. We find that finite brane
tension modifies the standard results in Hawking radiation if compared with the
case when brane tension is completely negligible. We observe that the rotation
of the black hole brings richer physics. Nonzero angular momentum triggers the
super-radiance which becomes stronger when the angular momentum increases. We
also find that rotations along different angles influence the result in
absorption probability and Hawking radiation. Compared with the black hole
rotating orthogonal to the brane, in the background that black hole spins on
the brane, its angular momentum brings less super-radiance effect and the brane
tension increases the range of frequency to accommodate super-radiance. These
information can help us know more about the rotating codimension-2 black holes.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures, minor modification, accepted for publication in

Illusions of general relativity in Brans-Dicke gravity
Contrary to common belief, the standard tenet of Brans-Dicke theory reducing
to general relativity when omega tends to infinity is false if the trace of the
matter energy-momentum tensor vanishes. The issue is clarified in a new
approach using conformal transformations. The otherwise unaccountable limiting
behavior of Brans-Dicke gravity is easily understood in terms of the conformal
invariance of the theory when the sources of gravity have radiation-like
properties. The rigorous computation of the asymptotic behavior of the
Brans-Dicke scalar field is straightforward in this new approach.Comment: 16 pages, LaTeX, to appear in Physical Review
Current reversal with type-I intermittency in deterministic inertia ratchets
The intermittency is investigated when the current reversal occurs in a
deterministic inertia ratchet system. To determine which type the intermittency
belongs to, we obtain the return map of velocities of particle using
stroboscopic recording, and numerically calculate the distribution of average
laminar length . The distribution follows the scaling law of , the characteristic relation of type-I
intermittency.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figure
