The Lost Taste
The Lost Taste is a film about a young chef named Ueda who is running a noodle bar that was passed down from his deceased father. Ueda is an excellent cook who always satisfies his customers with his secret family recipe. However, in recent years he has been having a hard time running his business, since fast-food chain restaurants are booming and one across the street is stealing his customers. Recently, only a few old loyal customers have come to visit. Worst of all, he has completely forgotten that this very day is the deadline to pay off his debt to a group of fearsome loan sharks. As soon as the mobsters learn that he is unable to pay off his debt, they immediately subdue Ueda and plan to brand him (literally) as a slave to pay his debt. Things are about to get ugly when the boss of the group suddenly feels hungry. Realizing he cannot work without lunch, the mob boss decides to command Ueda to cook for him since he has a distaste for those overselling chain restaurants that don’t put any effort into quality of service. Unfortunately, the immense pressure weighs too heavily on Ueda, and he is too nervous to perform even the simplest ingredient preparation. On the verge of utter failure, his eyes just so happen to glance upon the photo of his father on the cooking table. At that moment, he feels like his soul goes back to the time of his childhood, when his father was still in charge. In the memory, Ueda looks on as his father prepares the family’s soup recipe with incredible grace. When Ueda snaps back to reality, the famous chef’s special Udon soup has already been made by his hand. Though not outwardly very impressive to look at, the boss is still enticed to sample the bowl, and is shocked by its heavenly taste. The noodles are so good that it feels as though his soul ascends into outer space, filled with joy. Gratified by such an excellent dining experience—like he had never had before—the boss decides to spare Ueda from being enslaved. Unfortunately, the matter of repaying his debt is more complicated. No matter how unwilling he is, Ueda has no choice but to give up the real estate of the restaurant to the mob boss as payment. Afterward, Ueda gets a job as an entry-level employee in one of the fast-food chain restaurants. Ueda is free from all his past problems, but what had remained of his chef spirit slowly dies inside him as he’s forced into assembly-line food preparation
Triangle singularity in the decays
We study the reaction and
find that the mechanism to produce this decay develops a triangle singularity
around ~MeV. The differential width
shows a rapid growth around the
invariant mass being 1515~MeV as a consequence of the triangle singularity of
this mechanism, which is directly tied to the nature of the and
as dynamically generated resonances from the interaction of
pseudoscalar mesons. The branching ratios obtained for the decays are of the order of , accessible in
present facilities, and we argue that their observation should provide relevant
information concerning the nature of the low-lying scalar mesons.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, published in EPJ
Radioactive Decay of Specific Heavy Elements as an Energy Source for Late-Time Kilonovae and Potential JWST Observations
Revealing the temporal evolution of individual heavy elements synthesized in
the merger ejecta from binary neutron star mergers not only improves our
understanding of the origin of heavy elements beyond iron but also clarifies
the energy sources of kilonovae. In this work, we present a comprehensive
analysis of the temporal evolution of the energy fraction of each nuclide based
on the -process nucleosynthesis simulations. The heavy elements dominating
the kilonova emission within ~days are identified, including
Sb, Sb, Sb, Sb, Te, I,
Rn, Ra, Ra, and Ac. It is found that the
late-time kilonova light curve (~days) is highly sensitive to the
presence of the heavy element Ac (with a half-life of 10.0~days). Our
analysis shows that the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), with its high
sensitivity in the near-infrared band, is a powerful instrument for the
identification of these specific heavy elements.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, accepted by MNRA
Statistical Properties of Multiple Optical Emission Components in Gamma-Ray Bursts and Implications
Well-sampled optical lightcurves of 146 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are complied
from the literature. Multiple optical emission components are extracted with
power-law function fits to these lightcurves. We present a systematical
analysis for statistical properties and their relations to prompt gamma-ray
emission and X-ray afterglow for each component. We show that peak luminosity
in the prompt and late flares are correlated and the evolution of the peak
luminosity may signal the evolution of the accretion rate. No tight correlation
between the shallow decay phase/plateau and prompt gamma-ray emission is found.
Assuming that they are due to a long-lasting wind injected by a compact object,
we show that the injected behavior favors the scenarios of a long-lasting wind
after the main burst episode. The peak luminosity of the afterglow onset is
tightly correlated with Eiso, and it is dimmer as peaking later. Assuming that
the onset bump is due to the fireball deceleration by the external medium, we
examine the Gamma_0-Eiso relation and find that it is confirmed with the
current sample. Optical re-brightening is observed in 30 GRBs in our sample. It
shares the same relation between the width and the peak time as found in the
onset bump, but no clear correlation between the peak luminosity and Eiso as
observed in the onset bumps is found. Although its peak luminosity also decays
with time, the slope is much shallower than that of the onset peak. We get L
t^{-1}_{p}$, being consistent with off-axis observations to an expanding
external fireball in a wind-like circum medium. The late re-brightening may
signal another jet component. Mixing of different emission components may be
the reason for the observed chromatic breaks in different energy bands.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, to be published by IJMPD (Proceedings of "The

Improving the performance of weak supervision searches using transfer and meta-learning
Weak supervision searches have in principle the advantages of both being able
to train on experimental data and being able to learn distinctive signal
properties. However, the practical applicability of such searches is limited by
the fact that successfully training a neural network via weak supervision can
require a large amount of signal. In this work, we seek to create neural
networks that can learn from less experimental signal by using transfer and
meta-learning. The general idea is to first train a neural network on
simulations, thereby learning concepts that can be reused or becoming a more
efficient learner. The neural network would then be trained on experimental
data and should require less signal because of its previous training. We find
that transfer and meta-learning can substantially improve the performance of
weak supervision searches.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures, matches the published versio
Experimental investigation of the transverse nonlinear vibration of an axially travelling belt
From an experimental perspective, this paper investigates the transverse vibrationpresent in an axially travelling belt undergoing uniform motion with constant travelling speed.Application of a control of the belt speed, using Matlab, a Code Composer Studio (CCS) and theavailable complementary embedded tools, a stepper motor DSP control was obtainedautomatically by using a graphical method to establish the stepper motor movement models withina Simulink environment. By changing the tension of the belt and the rotational speed of the steppermotor, the natural frequency of the travelling belt was studied. The response waveforms, spectralcontent and phase diagrams were obtained by measuring the transverse vibration displacementunder different conditions. A nonlinear model for the experimental moving belt system wasdeveloped and numerical solutions calculated. Subsequently, the nonlinear response behavior ofthis model were validated by the results of the experiment. It was shown that there were manyscenarios for which the system can exhibit periodic motion, chaotic motion and beat frequencyphenomena to be present and measured in the vibration of the axially travelling belt
Vibration analysis and control of an axially moving string by expanded Hamilton’s principle
Time-varying length axially moving string subjected to control force and transverse excitation force is analyzed. The string’s transverse vibration attenuation law is achieved. Suitable lateral displacement solution is proposed to meet the conditions of vibration based on the accurate control. The relationship among the transverse displacement, the angular velocity and the time is obtained and discussed. The effect of string’s speed, damping, tension variable on the transverse displacement of string are also taken into consideration
