Atributos Da História De Vida De Um Cascudo De Corredeiras De Riachos De Mata Atlântica, Brasil
Spatial distribution, suitable spawning sites, and sexual dimorphism were investigated in armored catfish Neoplecostomus microps in the Macaé River from March 2004 to March 2005. Individuals of N. microps (n=290) were limited to fast-flowing stretches, and the distribution was related to ontogenetic development. Larvae in post-flexion occurred in the marginal vegetation, and adults only in gaps between boulders and stones in the river channel. Juveniles occurred in both environments. Spawns were found in the natural habitat in rapid stretches, with the eggs attached to the lower surface of stones in openings formed in the riverbed. The number of eggs per stone ranged from 62 to 375, with significant differences among the mean sizes of the eggs. Sexual dimorphism was noticed to N. microps. The anal and urogenital papillae are separated in males and merged in females and there is an epidermal growth along the pectoral-fin spine of males. © 2016, Universidade Estadual de Campinas UNICAMP. Distribution and population structure of the fish Cyphocharax gilbert (Characiformes: Curimatidae) in the Lower Paraíba do Sul River, Brazil
The distribution and population structure of Cyphocharax gilbert in four areas of the lower Paraíba do Sul River and its major tributaries (22ºS, 43ºW) were analyzed between March 1989 and February 1990. The species was common throughout the area, preferring major rivers with high turbidity and sand-mud substrates and range of length and size of specimens found varied depending on the particular characteristics of the site. A predominance of females was found in only area. Nevertheless, in all areas the bimonthly analysis showed preponderance of one of the sexes in periods before or after spawning. Males prevailed in shorter length classes and females in longer ones. There was a prevalence of young in one area that probably was used as a growth and feeding zone. Rev. Biol. Trop. 55 (3-4): 1015-1023.

Descrição histológica de gônadas de traíra Hoplias malabaricus (Bloch) (Osteichthyes, Erythrinidae) da barragem do rio Gramame, Alhandra, Paraíba, Brasil Histological description of the gonads of the traíra Hoplias malabaricus (Bloch) (Osteichthyes, Erythrinidae) from the Gramame River Reservoir, Alhandra, Paraíba, Brazil
The reproductive cycle of Hoplias malabaricus Bloch, 1794, was studied through histological preparations, based on 102 specimens collected in the Gramame reservoir, Paraiba State, from August 1993 to July 1994. Seven developmental stages were identified for the feminine gametes and five for the masculine gametes
