Reaching the boundary between stellar kinematic groups and very wide binaries. III. Sixteen new stars and eight new wide systems in the beta Pictoris moving group
Aims. We look for common proper motion companions to stars of the nearby
young beta Pictoris moving group. Methods. First, we compiled a list of 185
beta Pictoris members and candidate members from 35 representative works. Next,
we used the Aladin and STILTS virtual observatory tools, and the PPMXL proper
motion and Washington Double Star catalogues to look for companion candidates.
The resulting potential companions were subjects of a dedicated
astro-photometric follow-up using public data from all-sky surveys. After
discarding 67 sources by proper motion and 31 by colour-magnitude diagrams, we
obtained a final list of 36 common proper motion systems. The binding energy of
two of them is perhaps too small to be considered physically bound. Results. Of
the 36 pairs and multiple systems, eight are new, 16 have only one stellar
component previously classified as a beta Pictoris member, and three have
secondaries at or below the hydrogen-burning limit. Sixteen stars are reported
here for the first time as moving group members. The unexpected large number of
high-order multiple systems, 12 triples and two quadruples among 36 systems,
may suggest a biased list of members towards close binaries or an increment of
the high-order-multiple fraction for very wide systems.Comment: A&A in pres
Superscaling of non-quasielastic electron-nucleus scattering
The present study is focused on the superscaling behavior of electron-nucleus
cross sections in the region lying above the quasielastic peak, especially the
region dominated by electroexcitation of the Delta. Non-quasielastic cross
sections are obtained from all available high-quality data for Carbon 12 by
subtracting effective quasielastic cross sections based on the superscaling
hypothesis. These residuals are then compared with results obtained within a
scaling-based extension of the relativistic Fermi gas model, including an
investigation of violations of scaling of the first kind in the region above
the quasielastic peak. A way potentially to isolate effects related to
meson-exchange currents by subtracting both impulsive quasielastic and
impulsive inelastic contributions from the experimental cross sections is also
presented.Comment: RevTeX, 34 pages including 11 figure
An optimal estimator for the CMB-LSS angular power spectrum and its application to WMAP and NVSS data
We use a Quadratic Maximum Likelihood (QML) method to estimate the angular
power spectrum of the cross-correlation between cosmic microwave background and
large scale structure maps as well as their individual auto-spectra. We
describe our implementation of this method and demonstrate its accuracy on
simulated maps. We apply this optimal estimator to WMAP 7-year and NRAO VLA Sky
Survey (NVSS) data and explore the robustness of the angular power spectrum
estimates obtained by the QML method. With the correction of the declination
systematics in NVSS, we can safely use most of the information contained in
this survey. We then make use of the angular power spectrum estimates obtained
by the QML method to derive constraints on the dark energy critical density in
a flat CDM model by different likelihood prescriptions. When using
just the cross-correlation between WMAP 7 year and NVSS maps with 1.8
resolution, the best-fit model has a cosmological constant of approximatively
70% of the total energy density, disfavouring an Einstein-de Sitter Universe at
more than 2 CL (confidence level).Comment: 12 pages, 12 figure
Meson-exchange Currents and Quasielastic Neutrino Cross Sections
We illustrate and discuss the role of meson-exchange currents in quasielastic
neutrino-nucleus scattering induced by charged currents, comparing the results
with the recent MiniBooNE data for differential and integrated cross sections.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures; Proceedings of the 30th International Workshop on
