Dust in dwarf galaxies: The case of NGC 4214
We have carried out a detailed modelling of the dust heating and emission in
the nearby, starbursting dwarf galaxy NGC 4214. Due to its proximity and the
great wealth of data from the UV to the millimeter range (from GALEX, HST, {\it
Spitzer}, Herschel, Planck and IRAM) it is possible to separately model the
emission from HII regions and their associated photodissociation regions (PDRs)
and the emission from diffuse dust. Furthermore, most model parameters can be
directly determined from the data leaving very few free parameters. We can fit
both the emission from HII+PDR regions and the diffuse emission in NGC 4214

Dynamical Mean-Field Study of the Ferromagnetic Transition Temperature of a Two-Band Model for Colossal Magnetoresistance Materials
The ferromagnetic (FM) transition temperature (Tc) of a two-band
Double-Exchange (DE) model for colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) materials is
studied using dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT), in wide ranges of coupling
constants, hopping parameters, and carrier densities. The results are shown to
be in excellent agreement with Monte Carlo simulations. When the bands overlap,
the value of Tc is found to be much larger than in the one-band case, for all
values of the chemical potential within the energy overlap interval. A nonzero
interband hopping produces an additional substantial increase of Tc, showing
the importance of these nondiagonal terms, and the concomitant use of multiband
models, to boost up the critical temperatures in DE-based theories.Comment: 4 pages, 4 eps figure
Scalar and tensorial topological matter coupled to (2+1)-dimensional gravity:A.Classical theory and global charges
We consider the coupling of scalar topological matter to (2+1)-dimensional
gravity. The matter fields consist of a 0-form scalar field and a 2-form tensor
field. We carry out a canonical analysis of the classical theory, investigating
its sectors and solutions. We show that the model admits both BTZ-like
black-hole solutions and homogeneous/inhomogeneous FRW cosmological
solutions.We also investigate the global charges associated with the model and
show that the algebra of charges is the extension of the Kac-Moody algebra for
the field-rigid gauge charges, and the Virasoro algebrafor the diffeomorphism
charges. Finally, we show that the model can be written as a generalized
Chern-Simons theory, opening the perspective for its formulation as a
generalized higher gauge theory.Comment: 40 page
Generalized quantum measurements and local realism
The structure of a local hidden variable model for experiments involving
sequences of measurements rigorously is analyzed. Constraints imposed by local
realism on the conditional probabilities of the outcomes of such measurement
schemes are explicitly derived. The violation of local realism in the case of

Modelling the Pan-Spectral Energy Distributions of Starburst & Active Galaxies
We present results of a self-consistent model of the spectral energy
distribution (SED) of starburst galaxies. Two parameters control the IR SED,
the mean pressure in the ISM and the destruction timescale of molecular clouds.
Adding a simplified AGN spectrum provides mixing lines on IRAS color : color

Aspects regarding the use of the industrial wastes as raw materials for the manufacture of building materials
In this article are present the results of physical and chemical characterisation activities, of industrial wastes: ash and slag, drilling sludge, metallurgical slag. Also, were established the conditions in which these industrial waste types could be used as raw materials for manufacture some building materials. The ash can be assimilated with a lightweight aggregate similar to the natural sands, the oil-well drilling sludge presents an advanced similarity with the suspensions of fine particles of sand clays, the steel melting slag in electric furnace has the characteristics of a dense granular aggregate and the secondary treatment steel slag is characterized by the high content of calcium oxide
