Phenomenological correlations in high-temperature superconductors

An interpretation of the quadratic parameter of the Ginzburg-Landau theory of superconductivity is presented in this paper. The negative term in the potential, which allows the spontaneous symmetry breaking, is interpreted as a direct contribution from the energy gap at the Fermi surface to the effective potential. As a result, in the London approximation of the Ginzburg-Landau theory for type-II superconductors, a strong correlation is predicted and observed between the upper critical field at zero kelvin and the critical temperature in high temperature superconductors.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

Determinants of Beef and Pork Brand Equity

A set of consumer-level characteristic demand models were estimated to determine the level of brand equity for pork and beef meat cuts. Results indicate that brand premiums and discounts vary by private, national, and store brands; and brand equity varies across meat cuts carrying the same brand name. Other results are that product size discounts are linear, meat items on sale are significantly discounted to non-sale items, specialty stores typically do not garner higher prices than supermarket/grocery store, and warehouse/super center stores typically premium price to supermarket/ grocery store.Demand and Price Analysis,

Interstellar abundance determination using IUE data

Analysis of the silicon interstellar abundances was made for more heavily reddened lines of sight than were accessible to the Copernicus satellite. Silicon rarely had accurate column densities determined from Copernicus data because the available lines all lie on the flat portion of the curve of growth. With International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) it is possible to reach color excesses of E(B-V) approximately 0.5-0.7, and in addition obtain data on the weak SiII line at 1808 A, so that a wide range of oscillator strengths is available. The lower resolving power of the IUE causes difficulties in that several of the SiII lines are blended with strong lines of other species. Data on the lines of sight analyzed suggested that some of the absorption lines fall on the damped portion of the curve of growth, implying that silicon may not be as highly depleted as expected

FACTORS AFFECTING LIVE CATTLE BASIS

Cattle producers and beef packers need to understand basis determinants as they develop price expectations and make pricing, hedging, and forward contracting decisions. This study empirically estimated factors explaining variability in monthly fed cattle basis. The five main results regarding live cattle basis are 1) corn price is an important determinant, 2) a change in the value of the Choice-to-Select spread positively affects basis, 3) changes in the levels of captive supplies have no significant statistical or economic impact on basis 4) the June 1995 live cattle futures contract did not impact basis, and 5) both market fundamentals and seasonal components are important basis determinants.basis, fed cattle, cattle prices, Livestock Production/Industries, Marketing,
